Chapter Text

Izuku stepped into the 1a classroom only to be met with a sea of faces, a couple he recognized though. “Hey, it’s lollipop guy!” A blonde-haired boy Izuku recognized cheered, and all Izuku could do was laugh.

“My name’s actually Midoriya, but yes, I am the lollipop guy.” He waved his hand and was suddenly holding a lollipop, “Watermelon, right?”.

“Hell yeah, dude! You are officially my favourite classmate already, I’m Kaminari by the way!” Izuku smiled at the blonde’s excitement, it was nice to be welcomed with such cheer- even if it was because he was a walking sweet dispensary.

“Oh wow! We have two people with super similar quirks! Right, Yaoyorozu?” A pink-skinned girl piped up from the back.

All eyes turned to the girl she nodded at, assumably Yaoyorozu, “Ah well that depends on the specifics of Midoriya’s quirk. Personally, I can create anything as long as I know it’s chemical structure” She demonstrated by creating a pencil from her palm.

The class seemed awed, but Izuku was a little miffed, to be honest. Like, that was just his quirk but better. Okay sure, he didn’t have to know anything much about lollipops to make them. But he could only make them. How the hell was that fair? Oh well, good job he’d already came to terms with stuff like this, it was hard not to with Katsuki as a friend after all.

After her demonstration, all eyes turned back to Izuku and he was once again filled with the petty wish to do something stupid. But lying about his quirk would be difficult to stick to and pretty pointless, so best just be blunt.

“Nah I just make lollipops.”

This, caused a lot of confused looks until Kaminari hesitantly asked, “By…. Choice?”

“No dipshit,” Deadpanned a surprising voice. Well, surprising to Izuku at least. “Even Izuku’s not stupid enough to only make fucking lollipops by choice- that’s just his shitty quirk.”

Izuku rolled his eyes, “Yes, yes, thanks for the glowing review, Katsuki.” Katsuki’s words probably sounded harsh to his classmates (because they were) but Izuku didn’t mind, that’s just how he and Katsuki were.

Katsuki didn’t… value Izuku’s opinion all that much as he had a weak quirk, which could be frustrating, but he was improving… slowly. Izuku had always been the type to forgive, forget, and stick it out anyway, and Katsuki did have his moments here and there.

Take Izuku’s U.A related news sharing for example. He had pretty much gone straight over, Mitsuki had invited him in with a warm welcome, and he made it to Katsuki’s room. “What do you want nerd?”

“Oh, you’re doing the homework- need help?” Izuku asked, trying to not jump straight into things.

“I don’t need your fucking help to study. What did you actually come for?” Katsuki huffed.

“So uh… don’t get mad but I thought it would be funny to fool around at the U.A hero exam a bit and well…” Izuku then peeled off into the story, one event to the other, fast but comprehensive. “So uh yeah, I’ll be in your class?”

Katsuki was silent for a distressing amount of time. “You’re going to be a field medic. Not a hero.” It wasn’t quite a question, more of a questioning statement.

“Yes! That’s uh, that’s the plan?”

“Tch, suits you better than some stuffy ass hospital anyway.” And that there- that was acceptance. Not that Izuku needed his acceptance, not that he’d stop if Katsuki told him to, but it was nice to have a friend by your side.

Anyway, back to the situation at hand.

“Uh dude, no offence but like, can you make robot destroying lollipops?” Kaminari asked.

Izuku laughed.

Was it rude to laugh in the face of your new classmate? Probably yes. But ah, wouldn’t that be nice?

Unfortunately, Izuku didn’t get the chance to answer in any way other than laughter as it seemed their teacher had arrived. “If that’s your go-to conclusion I’m concerned about your place in this course already.”

Izuku winced at the man’s words, and they weren’t even aimed at him- harsh. “Midoriya since you’re already causing trouble, explain.” Oh and suddenly they were aimed at him and that was much much worse.

“Ahah right… I’m in your class but I’m not a hero student, I’m here to earn a medical license working under Recovery Girl, I hope to be a field medic in the future.”

The general response to that was positive and Izuku was soon being not so subtly glared into his seat by the teacher. “Right, my name’s Aizawa Shouta, I’ll be your homeroom teacher. Follow me we’re going outside.” He paused, “Except you Midoriya, you’re with recovery girl until lunch.”

Izuku nodded, he had known about this in advance. Any time the class was doing hero related stuff, he would be doing medical stuff. He had unfortunately not been told where this would be though leading to the unfortunate circumstance of having to ask. “Um… where?”

“Down the corridor then take two rights, the door is labeled,” Aizawa said succinctly, then to the rest of the class. “Hurry up.”

Izuku gave a weak smile to Kaminari as the class left and started his journey down the corridor alone, unfortunately, it didn’t seem to be as simple as Aizawa made it out to be. “Annnnd I’m lost,” Izuku said to himself and the empty corridor.

Or at least, the corridor was empty until two students turned into it, and it didn’t take a doctor to notice one of them was limping and quite literally bleeding all over the floor. How on earth they managed to get into this state approximately two minutes into the first day, Izuku didn’t know.

“Um, are you going to Recovery girl? Let me help.” Izuku offered.

Luckily, the one supporting the injured, a tall boy with short blonde hair grinned. “We are! That’d be great! Though shouldn’t you be in class?”

Izuku took the acceptance and with the boy’s help took the other arm of the injured student as they began to walk. “I was actually heading there anyway, but I… don’t know where it is.”

The boy laughed, “Ah you’re a first year then! My name’s Mirio, and this is Tamaki!”

“Nice to meet you, I’m Midoriya.”

Instead of a greeting himself, Tamaki between them just groaned. “This is the worst; I’m going to die.”

“You’ll be fine!” Chirped Miro and Izuku at almost the exact same time.

Tamaki just groaned again, “There’s two of them.”

“Here, have a lollipop.” Izuku offered, as per his default response to upset people. It was a little awkward to hand it over as they walked but he managed.

“Oh is that from your quirk?” Mirio asked as Tamaki mumbled thanks.

“Yeah.” Izuku said then, “Uh if you don’t mind me asking, what happened? School’s only started for like, ten minutes.”

Mirio chuckled, “Ah we’re third-year hero course students, Midnight Sensei likes to start the year off with training straight away! Shake off the dust, you know? There was just a small accident is all.”

Izuku looked down unconvinced at Tamaki’s leg which while it had stopped bleeding, didn’t exactly look great. “This is small?”

“Don’t let us scare you off! U.A. is actually a very safe school, accidents are bound to happen though but with recovery girl here he’ll be fine!” Mirio explained and Izuku was suddenly starting to feel very unsure about just whose shoes he would be filling. It was a daunting thought that’s for sure.

“Ah, right…” Izuku managed but luckily, they had arrived.

“Oh Mirio and- oh dear, come on in boys.” Recovery girl quickly ushered them all in and got Tamaki to sit down on a bed. “I see you’re already working hard, Midoriya.”

“Ah I just happened to pass by.” Izuku really didn’t think he’d ever get over just how cool Recovery girl’s quirk was. In just a couple of minutes Tamaki was already looking much better- it was just too cool!

Once everything was cleared up Mirio spoke again with a bright smile. “Thanks for the help Midoriya- need me to walk you anywhere?”

Izuku shook his head, “Oh it’s no problem- and I’m staying here don’t worry about me!”

Recovery girl nodded, “Yes, Midoriya here is my apprentice, I dare say you too troublemakers will be seeing more of him.” Her tone was reprimanding but it was mostly ignored.

“Wow, incredible! I’ll see you around then, Midoriya!” Mirio waved goodbye and even Tamaki mumbled his own goodbye as the too left.

“Well then,” Chiyo said in the silence, “certainly one way to start the day. Now then, let’s get started.” The textbook she pulled out could probably be classified as a blunt-force weapon.

Izuku eyed the dense book but then gave a confident nod, “Alright!”

Time flew by and soon Izuku was reuniting with the class for lunch, he was expecting excited clamour of how cool their training was, instead, the class seemed… quiet. “Um. How was training?” He asked the group as a whole.

There was a beat of silence before Kaminari wailed, “SO SCARY! He was going to expel us- Midoriya listen we-”

What followed was a desperate recount of everything that happened, filled with many interjections as everyone talked over each other to impress upon him just how scary it had been. Even Katsuki joined in, though that was of course just to say he was never worried and it was easy… When they finally finished Izuku smiled sympathetically, “Wow sounds tough, at least you all made it- yeah?”

His words seemed to help a little but the arrival of lunch seemed to help much more. Lunch rush’s food was well known for a reason after all. Once they were all sat down at various tables, Uraraka- who Izuku was sitting by, spoke up. “So, what were you doing, Midoriya?”

“Oh, I was mostly just being quizzed to see where my current knowledge is. I did meet some third years that were visiting recovery girl though.”

“Seems even you didn’t have it easy… quiz on the first day? No thank you!” Mina shook her head, obviously imagining the horrors of day one quizzes.

“Tell us about the people you met- were they hero students too?” Iida asked, “It will be good to know our seniors.” Izuku indulged and the lunch conversation flowed nicely from there. Izuku was beyond glad everyone at U.A. seemed so nice, it was certainly shaping out to be a good first day.

Day two of U.A seemed to be more of the same, an introduction to new classes, new teachers, it was nice. Izuku met someone else new as well. He was working with Recovery girl ‘Just call me Chiyo deary’ just after lunch today, but when he arrived there was already someone there.

“Ah Midoriya dear, this is Toshinori Yagi” Chiyo sighed, “He’s in here frequently due to an ongoing health condition so you’ll likely see each other somewhat often.”

Izuku looked up at the tall frail-looking man with a smile, “Ah, my name is Midoriya Izuku, it’s nice to meet you!”

“Indeed my boy, I’m happy to see Chiyo will have someone to help her out, she works too hard,” Toshinori said with a fond smile.

Chiyo however just hit him with her cane, “I could say the same about you! Honestly. Lesson one Midoriya, some patients will never listen to you they’re just stubborn-headed fools, do you understand?”

Izuku laughed awkwardly at the very… pointed words. “Ah um, yes?”

Chiyo sighed and looked to Yagi, “At least you came in today- I expect to see you again tomorrow- you hear?”

Toshinori gulped under the intense glare, “Yes, yes of course.”

“Would you like a lollipop?” Izuku asked, feeling ever so slightly bad for his new acquaintance. Though, ignoring doctor’s orders was certainly worth the criticism.

Luckily Toshinori happily accepted a strawberry lollipop, well actually he had seemed so happy with the offer Izuku had handed him a whole handful. The conversation was much lighter after that until finally he left.

Then Chiyo turned to him, “Right, you have a strong base knowledge, and your first aid seems up to date.” Izuku had always been aiming to be a doctor, after all, he took first aid courses at the local library every summer.

“We’re going to start covering quirk-specific modifications, it relies somewhat on knowledge but mostly on your own medical intuition. Sometimes a patient’s quirk will mean care has to be handled in a different way, we will start by covering some basic examples. Firstly-” Izuku listened intently to his teacher and the lecture went on.

The next day came with a shock. Just ask Izuku was getting ready to leave the class as their hero training started an unexpected person opened the door. All Might.

The class went crazy, how could they not- the number one hero was right there! Izuku wouldn’t be seeing much of him, not participating in hero training and all, but he couldn’t help but be excited too. That was until he noticed something.

All might was eating a red lollipop. It looked… a lot like the ones he made. But then again, so did many generic brands. It’s just a funny coincidence is all.

Or that’s what he thought until the next day he saw Toshinori, and then All Might. Who curiously, was eating a purple lollipop. Just like the ones he had given Toshinori only half an hour prior. But surely not, right?

Yeah.

Definitely a coincidence.

It took two days until Izuku saw Toshinori again and the man was just as frail and skeletal as the last time. It just couldn’t be. But… that didn’t stop Izuku from offering him more lollipops, and if he made them a weird swirl of blue and orange in colour… that was his business.

It did however mean that the next day when All Might picked the class up for hero training with a blue and orange lollipop in hand Izuku dropped his water bottle on his foot and said “fuck.” For more than one reason.

He spent the entire next day nervous and overthinking. All Might… All Might couldn’t be that stupid right? Yeah. He must have been subtly trying to clue him in on the secret. It must have been deliberate. But why tell Izuku? And what was stopping him from telling him normally? Izuku would find a way to ask the next time he saw Yagi.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen for a little while. That wasn’t to say life was boring though, one day in the cafeteria he was approached by a student he’d never seen before. “Hey, you’re the new medic right? Fix my arm please?!” The student then held out her arm which had a sizeable gash over her forearm.

“Oh my god,” Said Uraraka next to him, looking a little queasy at the sight.

Izuku just looked up at the pink-haired girl, “How did that happen? Never mind just sit down.” He stood up and gestured for the girl to take his seat. While she did he pulled his bandages out of his bag (never hurts to be prepared)

“Right, I’ll bandage it now and stop the bleeding then we’re going to Recovery girl.” Izuku explained as he got to work.

The girl pouted, “Aww no I have to get back to work- my baby’s almost finished! I’m sure you can fix it alone, right? Everyone’s been talking about you!”

“Nope.” Said Izuku resolutely. “We are going to recovery girl. Who are you anyway, and what did you mean everyone’s talking about me?”

“I’m Mei! Mei Hatsume! And yeah- you’re the coolest rumour in the school! Apparently, you saved a guy whose leg was cut off on the first day!” The girl said enthusiastically waving her free hand around as she spoke.

He certainly didn’t save anyone on the first day of school, much less anyone whose leg had been cut off. But. He did help walk Tamaki, whose leg was injured… Izuku could maybe see the origin of the rumour. It was starting to seem likely he had Mirio to blame for this.

“I didn’t do that, it’s been greatly exaggerated. I’m in training I wouldn’t be able to help even if someone’s leg had been cut off. Who’s been saying that?” As he spoke, he finished off the bandaging making sure everything was secure.

Hatsume shrugged, “It’s a rumour, who knows who said what?”

Izuku just sighed, “Alright you’re not bleeding anymore, let’s go.” He gave his friends a smile before escorting Hatsume to Recovery girl’s office. Surprisingly when he got there, she wasn’t alone.

“Ah young Midoriya, it’s nice to see you again.” Yagi greeted and Izuku internally echoed the sentiment strongly. “And who’s this young lady?”

“I’m Hatsume Mei! Can you let me go now? I have babies to make!?”

Yagi splutter a little at her bold proclamation but Chiyo just tutted, “If Midoriya thought it was severe enough to need bandaging you at least need a checkup. I assume you’re in the support course Miss Hatsume?”

“Yup! I’m making a knife-throwing arm!”

Izuku sighed, “And one of those knives ended up in your arm?”

“Yep! How’d you guess?!” Hatsume grinned. Luckily after that, it didn’t take long until she was cleared to leave, and Izuku even got told he did a good job with the bandaging by Recovery girl! Now though, he had something else to worry about.

“Um, Yagi? Would you mind if I spoke to you in private?” Izuku edged his question in.

“Oh? Of course, let’s step outside. Is there something wrong my boy?”

Once they’d made it outside Izuku bit his lip. Obviously, there must be some reason All Might didn’t outright tell him his secret and instead only hinted it to him. So how does he bring this up? “Umm did you enjoy the lollipops I gave you? I saw you eat them.” There. That spelt out that he knew, right?

However, Yagi seemed a little confused. “Ah, yes! There were very nice. Is there something else?”

“Um. I’m just wondering why you wanted me to know? Or, if we can discuss it? I have so many questions…” Izuku tried to be a little more blunt.

Yagi just looked lost. “I’m sorry Midoriya, I don’t know what you mean?”

Izuku hesitated, was he telling him not to ask? Playing dumb? Or… genuine? “I mean… about your umm… daytime job?”

Finally, there was a slight light of… something in Yagi’s eyes. “Ah well, I’m only an assistant of course.”

Izuku narrowed his eyes “Is that… the cover?”

“Ahem! Um. Midoriya, why don’t we talk somewhere else I think things have gotten a little mixed up! This way.” Yagi began to lead him to another room, a small office. Izuku sat down opposite and waited patiently for him to speak.

The tone was suddenly a lot more serious. “Midoriya what exactly do you think my job is?”

Izuku paused. “Just… say it? Outright?” Yagi nodded. “You’re All Might.” Izuku said with confidence.

Yagi winced. “Ah I suppose there’s no hiding it now… How did you come to know this? It’s a very important matter I hope you understand.”

“What?” Izuku said. “Wait what? You wanted me to know, didn’t you? Why else would you be so obvious!?” Right as he said it Izuku began to realise what was going on and it was only made more obvious by the chastised look on Yagi’s face.

“I’m afraid I am… perhaps not the best at keeping a secret identity. Can you tell me what happened?”

Oh my god” Izuku breathed. This was… unreal. Even more so than finding Yagi was All Might, finding All Might himself was that… careless? It was almost funny if it weren’t also slightly scary. “You- you ate lollipops I gave you as Toshinori as All Might. I… I genuinely thought you were trying to let me in on it.”

“Ah. Whoops.”

Izuku let his head hit the desk. Yagi was worried for a second when the boy started to shake but then it became clear he was laughing. “You- you outed perhaps the biggest secret in the country by eating lollipops- oh- hahaha- oh my god.”

Yagi began to chuckle himself. “It seems I did, Chiyo is never going to let me hear the end of this. Not to mention Naomasa… Oh dear.”

That only opened up more questions for Izuku but he was too busy laughing at the absurdity of all this to ask them. It had certainly been a busy first week.

HEY EVERYONE! Hope you enjoyed!

Here it is- back by popular request! Thank you all for the overwhelming support on part one of this!

So here's what's happening with this series in the future:
- This will be a multi-chapter fic, following Izuku's journey in U.A. to become a field medic.
- On the side separately but in this series, I'm planning an 'AU' of sorts that's more crack-like, where Izuku is a hero and uses some of the more extreme ideas for lollipop-based warfare I've seen in the comments!

MOST IMPORTANTLY! Let me know what you want to see here! Who do you want him to be close with, what do you want to focus on, anything goes!

Let me know what you want to see and I'll try work it in- this is back by request after all so keep 'em coming!
