Notes:

the premise for this fic is based on the r/stupiddovenests subreddit where, as the name implies, people post pics of the terrible nests doves are known for making. I took that and said "what if i apply this to my silly little cybertronian egg laying idea?" and this emerged.

the gist of the egg laying process i made up is that cybertronians have a natural program that can be turned off/on that gathers materials over a long time and then form an egg. They're just filled with the basic ingredients of metal + circuits, etc, and can't develop or hatch into anything unless you dunk them in a hot spot to gain a spark. Without a spark an egg is literally just full of spare parts, but the shell is still very tough and sturdy. Nests aren't really necessary, but it's an instinct to make one after creating an egg, so usually someone puts it in an appropriate container to satisfy the impulse while deciding what to do with the spare parts. That being said, most attribute the unique terribleness of seeker "nests" to being an inscrutable military culture thing.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

For detailed guidelines of posting and the code of conduct, please refer to this post.  Please contact any of the mod team about content that breaks the rules.  That being said, not knowing whether an egg is sparked or not does not break the code of conduct.

We’ve all forgotten about our resource gathering programs from time to time, and any shaming on the basis of irresponsibility or neglect will not be tolerated due to thorough debunking of the pre-spark development myth.  An egg on the ground is fine, we’re just here to laugh at the ones left in the middle of the road.

Above all, please keep it lighthearted and fun!

Post title: has Skywarp written all over it

The photo features an interior view of a storage closet, focused on an open box of firecrackers with a singular ornate Cybertronian egg resting on top of them, yellow circuitry glittering along its purple surface.  There are a considerable number of firecrackers missing from the box.

u/skyskywarpwarp replied: frag YAH it does!!!!!🚀🎆💥

Comment: caught in the act lol

The video starts with some shaky blurs of colour but after a few moments the image resolves into a view of a large soaking tub with high side walls, and a candy striped seeker peeking out to scowl at the cameramech.

A personnel overlay HUD helpfully identifies the seeker as Updraft of Vos, currently in the Seldan Reach's border patrol unit.

The cameramech struggles to maintain an even tone as they ask,

"Whatcha doin' there, Uppers?"

Updraft squints even harder but gives an oddly cheerful,

"Don't worry about it!"

The cameramech snorts and their voice wavers even more,

"Forget about a lil' bit of code, there?"

"Don't even worry about it!" Updraft replies with the same level of peppiness.

"You know it's easier to find something like a box for this kinda thing."

"I got it covered!"

"Yeah, seems like it.  You need any help or something?"

"Nope!"

The video dissolves into a shaking blur of laughter and ends abruptly.

Comment: He’s only been down for like 2 breems…

The photo shows Astrotrain sprawled out on a rocky asteroid surface, settled deep into solar recharge mode.  A shiny, freshly created egg is balanced in the middle of one wing with a pile of dust arranged in a sloppy ring around it.

u/verybury replied: elegant yet restrained arrangement of the orbital debris.  inexplicable, precarious placement in an open area.  astrotrain is there.  a fine showing. 7/10 on the failnest magnitude scale

Post title: 50% Sea, 50% Weed

Comment: there were too many that were all very similar & i didnt want to clog the thread with separate posts, so enjoy this collage of nemesis failnests

The image shows a compilation of photos pasted on top of each other showing eggs left in various nooks and crannies in the easily recognizable purple-tinted halls of the Nemesis.  They’re all a variety of colours and patterns, but united by their possession of a few handfuls of seaweed strewn around each egg, along with puddles of seawater dribbled around them.

Post title: STOP labelling my nests FAILURES!!!

Comment: A liquid nest is FINE, you’re all just uncultured. 😤

The photo attached has been heavily filtered with decorative frames and glitter animations over it, but is clear enough to show an egg resting at the bottom of a puddle of bright orange swamp water.  It’s too distorted to see the egg’s pattern or colouration beyond the bright cyan glow that it emits.

u/toxicslutch replied: honestly it’s not that bad.  technically even has walls this time…

u/sunofprimus1 replied: Oh, look at its cute little supraphase re-emission!! So blue!! Primus has blessed it with an energetic temperament! 🌟

u/hotlinx replied: So... just not gonna address the other stuff happening here, huh?

Comment: 1st nest + 2 mins before lol

The first photo is of a white and gold egg resting on top of a metal bowl that is noticeably too small for it, marked with a label reading “ashtray.”  The second image is a 4 panel compilation showing a white and blue striped seeker leaning against a balcony railing with a vaporizer in hand, first making a face like they swallowed a live grenade, then looking down at their torso, then sticking a hand in their open cockpit with a look of intense focus, and finally holding the egg from the first picture at arms length with a look of confusion.

u/airmailing replied: i forgor…💀

u/airmailing replied: but i have new spare parts so who’s laughing now?? Checkmat, autobolts 🤠

u/verybury replied: 9/10 for the faces alone.  i feel like i'm watching a bio documentary made on the cheap

Comment: Ok I know it’s not a seeker failnest, but it’s still pretty bad & I thought everyone here would get a kick out of it.  Enjoy!

The photo shows a square, green and purple Cybertronian egg resting on top of a vertically positioned spotlight, casting a dramatic shadow on the wall behind it.

u/need5speed replied: wtf constructicons are literally engineers. build a nest!

u/need5speed replied: no u know what, i need answers. @scrapper1 @scrapper1 @scrapper1 @scrapper1

↪u/scrapper1 replied: Stop that. No, it's not one of ours.  There are other mechs that are green and purple, slaghead.

Post title: Gotta be against some kinda building code

Comment: It's been going like this for the past 2 groons.

The video focuses a very zoomed view on a disaster alarm sensor apparatus mounted high on a wall, and a white egg balanced precariously on one of the humidity gauge arms.  As the video progresses, the arm holding the egg bends down, causing the egg to roll off and hit a shock wave sensor, which triggers a shrill alarm whistle to blast for a split second as the shock wave sensor flicks up to detect further seismic activity.  The rising platform lifts the egg and causes it to roll off the sensor, down onto a different piece of equipment that slowly bends under its weight, and ultimately drops it back on the humidity gauge, and then back on the shock wave sensor to trip the alarm.

This sequence happens several times before the video ends, with the only commentary by the cameramech being a sarcastic,

"Ah.  Mazing."

The video ends just before the egg rolls to trip the alarm again.

Comment: Nova made an egg and then put it in storage last week, but got so overcharged last night she forgot about doing that & then found a football in the rec room.  What happens next will spin your spark!✨

The post features two photos: one showing a gold and black seeker bent at the waist to place something down in a corner, and the other a closeup of said corner that now houses a soccer ball wrapped up in a rubber anti-fatigue mat like a blanket.

u/nonovas replied: how could u do this 2 your fellow seeker.

u/nonovas replied: revenge.

↪u/nonovas attached an image: The photo shows a bright blue seeker stretching up on tip toe to place a similarly coloured egg on top of a
vending machine, where a few bent scraps of rebar are already placed.

↪u/freecations attached an image: The photo shows the black and gold seeker from the post's first image slumped over in a chair in

Post Title: 100% did not make that himself. guaranteed

The photo is a screenshot of a personal inbox that has 2 received messages, a text reading "u jelly?" followed by an image.  The image features a grey egg resting in a perfectly symmetrical nest made out of tightly woven copper wires and placed on a table, with a smug red seeker posing with hands on his hips in the background of the shot.

Post title: IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 401???

Comment: 💀💀💀

The photo shows an aerial view of a mottled green egg, roughly the size of a motorcycle, resting in the middle of a 4 lane freeway, and a considerable amount of traffic backed up behind it.

u/acidrainstorm replied: Just temporary! I went back for it!

u/fwendzy replied: shoulda stuck it on the micky ds arches smh

u/bitsnbolts replied: did u know the impact force rating for an unsparked egg is over 4.3MN?  It’s actually not that risky to be on a small vehicle highway so long as the speed limit is under 500kmh! :)

u/nicepick replied: i hate this faction so much

Post title: Seekers? In MY crystal planter?

Comment: It's more likely than I thought.  Found this little orb here last week, but someone keeps coming back to shine it, so, I guess I'll just skip pruning those plants for now?

The photo shows a shiny, iridescent pink egg perfectly positioned to be hidden in the middle of a blooming collection of jasper and selenite crystal flowers.

u/daydreamer replied: aww little flower egg!  post update pics?

↪u/diamondcr1mes replied: Sure, I'll make a new post if it's still around for a few millivorn.  Maybe the egg maker will find a hotspot by then.

Title: Related to forum topic- Cave nest?

[Link] The Rensamo National Museum of Geologic History - Fascinating Geodes Reveal New Secrets Thanks to Collaboration With Uni– [/Link]

Comment: So I guess this forum has been kind of dead for a while, but I stumbled on this article from several vorn ago at a foreign museum and did some digging.  There was a photo attached in an old archived copy of the museum’s exhibit website which makes it pretty obvious what these “geodes” are:

Photo: The attached photo is slightly blurry, but shows a pile of jagged rocky orbs in a museum diorama of a sandstone cavern.  There are 6 orbs total, and all are covered in various sediment and mineral deposits, but a helpful display poster next to the display shows a cross-section of the detailed layers of metal within one of the orbs.

Comment: Did somebody forget their eggs in a cave on Rensamo a few kilovorn ago?
