Work Text:

Child in the shadows, tell me a story

Who was kind and powerful, and the only person who ever stayed
For she was yours, you shared her blood

Fearless boy, tell me a story
Tell me a story about finding an old god
Of leaving with him to save the world
Tell me about meeting a legend
Who was wild and caring, who had an unimaginable gift but was still a child
For he was yours, you saved him

Genius child, tell me a story
Tell me a story about fighting for him
Of knowing better but allowing him to explore
Tell me about meeting a warrior
Who fought with fans and taught you of strength
For she was yours, you loved her

Prince of the sea, tell me a story
Tell me a story about seeing your sister tribe
Of seeing their home persevere as yours crumbled
Tell me about meeting an ice princess
Who was warm and sacrificing and became a goddess
For she was now yours, you loved her

Brave one, tell me a story
Tell me a story about your travels
Of looking for a teacher but finding destruction

Who was young and strong and uncompromising
For she was yours, you claimed her

Prince of ice, tell me a story
Tell me a story about fighting for your life
Of arguing between yourselves and still working together
Tell me about meeting a fire princess
Who was cold and calculating and deadly
She was yours too, in a different way, she was your enemy

Broken boy, tell me a story
Tell me a story about the last stronghold
Of watching it fall before your very eyes
Tell me about meeting an earth general, dai li
Who was cunning and betrayed his county for power, for the fire princess
He was not yours, his actions hurt your god

Wolf son, tell me a story
Tell me a story about saving your god
Of seeing him die and bringing him to safety
Tell me about finding your father
Who was older than you remembered, just like you, and who missed you dearly
He was yours too, you were his pack

Young warrior, tell me a story
Tell me a story about the invasion
Of planning and waiting, helping those along your path and learning to fight
Tell me about meeting a teacher
Who was skilled and patient and valued honesty,
He was yours, you learned from him

Silver prince, tell me a story
Tell me a story about fleeing to the safety of one of your god’s fallen temples
Or failing and regrouping, mourning those you lost
Tell me about meeting a reformed fire prince
Who was relentless and good, who was once an enemy but helped you regain your honor
He was yours, you fought with him

Fearful boy, tell me a story
Tell me a story about saving the earth kingdom
Of falling and strength, pain and victory
Tell me about meeting your pack
Who all fought for the world, who fought for you and with you
They were yours, and you were theirs

Savior child, tell me a story
Tell me a story about the rise of a new fire lord
Of watching peace return
Tell me about reuniting with your pack
Who were the most powerful people, but who followed you
They were yours, you lead them

Wolf child, let me tell you a story
Of the end of the world and of an era
Let me tell you about a boy
Who was smart and brave, who built his pack
And with them, saved the world
