Chapter Text
❝ Nick appears. Nicholas Nelson, a year 12 like me, is one of those laddish lads who actually is into all those stereotypical things, like rugby and beer and swearing and all that but he also has the most successful combination of name and surname I have ever heard, which makes it impossible for me to dislike him. I can’t really remember when Nick and Charlie, became “Nick and Charlie” but Nick is the only one who visited Charlie while he was ill, so in my books, he’s definitely alright. ❞
— Tori Spring
Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring officially met one chilly fall morning in 3rd block and to say their connection was instant, would be an understatement.
“Hi.” Charlie smiled, a bit breathless from how beautiful Nick Nelson was.
“Hi.” Nick responded, lifting one side of his lip into a devastating smile.
‘Yeah, this kid is definitely gonna break my heart.’ Charlie told himself. He knew who Nick Nelson was, everyone knew who he was. 12th year, Captain of the rugby team, the only openly bisexual boy at Truham, devastating freckles, ethereal red hair with hints of blonde and a heart three sizes too big for his already bulky frame.
‘And you’d be completely okay with him breaking your heart any day so don’t give me that.’ The hopeless romantic voice in his head told him dreamily and Charlie honestly couldn’t disagree.
Nick on the other hand was also aware of Charlie Spring. He was the 11th year who was outed the year prior. He had these big beautiful blue eyes, the craziest curled hair that Nick wanted to run his hands through to tame and the best fashion sense.
“Hi, you’re late.” Nick teased Charlie one unusually sunny spring day.
“Hi, I wouldn’t have been if someone wasn’t texting me until 3:00 in the morning.” Charlie teased back.
“In my defense, you brought up the topic of the new vans coming out so, in actuality you did this to yourself, i simply aided and abetted.” Nick somehow always had a loophole, and god Charlie hated it.
The two had become best friends unrealistically quickly after their first real conversation and would do just about everything together. Nick even helped Charlie get help when he’d admitted that he struggled a lot with self harm and a treacherous eating disorder. Good for Charlie, but also bad for Charlie as he found himself falling harder for the boy than he already had. ❪ which was already heavily embarrassing according to their group of friends, especially Tao Xu, Charlie’s oldest friend and former Nick Nelson hater turned Nick Nelson’s #1 hype man. ❫
“If that’s what you wanna keep telling yourself, go right away, bro.” Charlie emphasized, causing Nick to roll his eyes playfully.
“You ready for the Paris trip?” Nick asked, changing the subject so neither could be right.
“No, that’s what I wanted to talk to you about. My parents aren’t gonna let me go unless I get my history grade up and my English grade up.” Charlie sighed and Nick’s face paled. “Mr. Fox and Mr. Diaz both have extra credit they gave me so i could have the grade.”
“No no, that cannot and will not happen. I am not doing Paris without you. During lunch, we’re marching straight to their offices and doing that extra credit.” Nick huffed out.
“Aw, you just can’t be without me for more than a few days can you?” Charlie teased once again, but held secretly giddy feelings.
“No I absolutely cannot and will not do this without you.” Nick said in a finality voice.
Charlie giggled and nodded.
“Maybe we shouldn’t mention that though, when we go see them. They have had this weird rivalry thing since Mr. Diaz transferred in.”
“Agreed.” Nick shuddered. He still remembered the last time Charlie accidentally let it slip that they was helping both of them clean their classrooms.
“You thinking about it too?” Charlie asked, Nick nodding in resolution.
That was another instance of their bond, they’d always been able to read each other, even with no words. A certain look, or subtle touch always told both boys what was being thought and it felt pretty damn good.
Sure, Nick was popular and had millions of friends who lived and supported him, but with Charlie, it was a whole new experience. Well, partly because he was head over heels in love with Charlie and partly because they got each other. They could always lean on each other, and take care of each other, and they would only come out stronger.
Nick couldn’t be Nick, if he didn’t have Charlie.
Charlie couldn’t be Charlie, if he didn’t have Nick.
And that was that. Regardless of how obliviously in absolute love with each other they were, they were okay with where things were, and always would be.
And then Paris was announced, and it sent everyone in and around their lives into a plan. A very devious, manipulative and crucial plan. All lead by one Darcy Olsson and encouraged by Tao Xu, Elle Argent, Issac Henderson, Tara Jones, Mr. Ajayi and their history and english teachers, Mr. Diaz and Mr. Fox who seem to have way too much time on their hands, when they aren't trying to one up or kill each other...
