Chapter 1: Orange Uniforms Are Ugly

Chapter Text

--={ Annabeth Chase }=--

*BING BING BING..., BING BING BING* The school bell rang out signifying the end of classes and starting lunch, only 2 days now until Annabeth and her best friends would be leaving for the school camp! She was over exited, no more than over exited..., EXTATIC! Annabeth had just walked out the door of her Design Engineering class and was heading towards the group of picnic tables opposite the library, she debated not eating her lunch until after school but eventually decided against it.

Walking down from the 3rd floor of the main classroom block she headed towards the school front gates to the Library and Language classrooms. The library was only 1 story high, but it held more books than her dad had at his work, and that was saying something. On the south side of the building was where the Year 11 to 12 lockers were located, it was an undercover area surrounding a set of picnic tables, a pair of lockers stacked on top of each other lined the walls, at the end of the corridor another veered off to the right holding more lockers. Enough to have on for every year 12 and year 11 student.

Her locker was painted a mint green, the colour that represented Year 12, each year level had a different colour painting their lockers. With only around 80 to 90 students in Year 12, Annabeth was relatively close to the front of the front of the undercover area as her last name started with a C. Grabbing her lunch and putting her books away before closing the locker probably a bit too hard causing the other lockers to shutter.

Walking out in front of the library, heading for her usual table where Melody was already settling with Bonny, her service dog. “Behind you Mel” she made sure to say it before she was too close as to not scare her friend.

“Afternoon Annabeth!” Melody responded, “How was Design Engineering?” Melody tilted her head to where Annabeth normally sat.

“It was great! I submitted my design project so now all I’m going to do is relax and wait for my grades! How have you been? You seem happier than normal.” Annabeth noticed behind Melody that Will was coming out of the locker area towards their table. “Also, Will is coming up behind you just so you know.”

“Thanks for telling me, and I am great! My mother finally gave me permission to go to the support camp!” Will was now sitting down next to Annabeth.

“That is amazing Mel! We will see you there.” Will replied with a mouth full of apple and smiling ear to ear. “Also, Annabeth, I heard from the Head of Support that the cabins now have 12 people in them instead of 9. Oh, and all three schools will be attending the camp this year.”

“Wait? THREE SCHOOLS?! There will be three schools worth of people there?” Piper shouted as she sat down next to Melody startling her. “Last year you said there was only two schools though.”

Even with Piper’s comment Will’s smile didn’t faulter. “Yes, three schools, last year there was a land slide on the only road leading from the city to the boarding school that I forget the name of, so there were only two schools last year but this year all three will be there!”

“Okay..., that will still be lots of people though, what schools will be there?” Melody questioned.

Annabeth quickly gave an answer, “It will be Solar High School, the ones with purple uniforms and they were there last year; Long Island High School was also there last year as our school would never miss a camp; and Storm Academy the boarding school.”

“Hey Piper, doesn’t the friend we apparently replaced go to Storm Academy?” Melody asked jokingly.

“YOU DID NOT REPLACE HIM; HE IS MY FRIEND AND SO ARE YOU GUYS!” Piper shot back with her mouth still full of sandwich, and everyone burst out laughing. “His name is Leo! I have told you this so many times!” Piper was starting to laugh now, yet she continued in a matter-of-factly tone, “But yes, he does attend Storm Academy.”

“As well as recognising the name Storm Academy, I also recognise the name Solar High School, wasn’t that the school we have the end of year dances with?” Melody asked without moving her unseeing eyes from where she thought her lunch was.

“Yes, it is! It is also the school Annabeth met her crush!” Somehow the grin on Will’s face got bigger after seeing that what he said made Annabeth’s face go bright red.

“He is just someone I met; he is not my crush!” She fired back

“OH HIM! I remember him, he was the only person at that dance from the other school that asked me if I needed any help getting around the dance, and what my service dog’s name was!” Melody’s hand started patting Bonny’s head, “Yeh Annabeth definitely has a crush on him. I think his name was Peter or something.”

“Percy.” Annabeth corrected.

“Why do we have to switch to orange and black uniforms?! Those colours are ugly together”

“Well Ava, I think those colours would look good one you, and it would be nice for this school to actually get a uniform.”

“I mean Ava and Lydia what were you expecting? The school logo is a Pegasus.”

“We are changing to a Uniform?” Will asked her after he overheard the conversation in the back of the classroom.

“Yes, the school is implementing a uniform, but that will start at the beginning of next year.” Mr Polus announced as he entered the classroom. “Anny students who will not be attending the camp this year please move to the back of the classroom, and you may do anything you wish to do as long as you are quiet, and nothing gets broken. For those of you who are attending the camp please move to the front of the classroom as there are some changes this year that the Camp Director has told us about. This is information you will need to know.” Annabeth and Will didn’t need to move as they were already at the front of the classroom.

There were only around fifteen people in their General Study class and only 6 of them had volunteered at the support camp. Once all six of them were sitting at the front of the class Mr Polus began to speak again. “I will explain this to you the best I can, but I don’t fully understand it so forgive me if the explanation isn't to your expectations of something all of you are so passionate about. The camp coming up this school holidays will be attended by all three schools who were invited, us, Solar High School, and Storm Academy.” He paused.

“There are so many volunteers this year that everyone will have a support partner, but because of how many people will be going the cabins will now have 12 students in them instead of 9. Your cabin will be the same as your activity group. Your support partner will not be someone from the same school you attend. I think that was it.” Mr Polus pulled something out of his pocket and skimmed it quickly, “Go see The Head of Support Mr Blofis if you have any questions. You have the rest of this class to do something now.”
