Chapter 1: General Information

Summary:

This covers the Empire as a whole and Terra, as well as things that don't fit anywhere else.

Chapter Text

The Emerald Empire is a fully FTL civilization, having conquered most of the Milky Way and its civilizations and currently at war with a few small star nations not expected to hold out more than a few years.

The Empire was officially founded in 2035, but in practice there were large holdouts until 2042. It's currently the 54th century, with most fics taking place around 5478.

Life-extension technology is pretty common in the upper classes. Werewolves can often live for upwards of 500 years, and people with human lifespans for around 250.

Coast City was renamed the Imperial City, and takes up most of the world(the oceans were drained in 2175 to make room for more city), with the majority of the populace being human or human-descended but a sizable minority of the population being alien depending on the district. Gotham takes up North America and is ruled by Bruce, with a chunk of the Upper East Coast being labeled as the Alley Protectorate and ruled by Jason.

There are several other Protectorates.

The Garden Protectorate belongs to Joan and Jay and is entirely gardens.

The Abyss Protectorate, the only surviving body of water larger than a decorative pool on the planet, belongs to She Who Lurks Below.

The Temple Protectorate is the smallest, and consists of a single square mile of undisturbed mountain that belongs to a still-sleeping Echidna.

The Forest Protectorate is a large chunk of overgrown, mobile and predatory forest that was split between Pamela and Maple in a constantly changing divide hashed out by eternal phytokinetic conflict. Harley lives inside a small bubble of harmless and/or benevolent plant life that is officially neutral territory and cannot be targeted by either side.

The Green Lantern Corps tried to intervene, but Hal’s ring can’t be confiscated without his death or consent, and all of the Lanterns that tried to stop him in person were brutally killed before having their corpses put on public display. Kyle willingly gave up his ring.

Somehow the display of force actually worked, and no Lantern has tried to do more than surreptitiously spark revolt in six hundred years- which doesn’t really work since Hal gives the Ministries the names and descriptions of all of the Lanterns that get added to the database. The Ministries of Culture, Public Safety, Information and Warfare send agents to watch them, defuse any revolutionary sentiment and/or lead the new rebels on goose chases.
