Chapter Text
I had recently moved into a new home.
Or rather, it’s a bit of an old one.
The house itself looked nearly dilapidated, like how some of the wood on the exterior appeared to be rotting away
Not going to lie, it almost mirrored my mental state these past few years.
You see… I haven’t had quite a picturesque life.
With my parents neglecting me for a good majority of my childhood to the fact I never did all that well in school. I barely had any friends growing up.
I could barely even hold a proper job, only ending up working for a dead-end company.
I was originally living with my parents for a while before they eventually kicked me out.
I was only able to get this house since it was the cheapest thing I could find that was remotely close to my place of work.
I stared sadly at the building in front of me and let out a long sigh.
“Well…there’s really nowhere else for me to go… might as well get settled in.”
Once I brought my stuff (which wasn’t all that much) inside the home, I realized how dirty the place was.
There was some soot on the floor and dust particles seemed to dance in the air.
I even sneezed a few times because of this
“Geez… the previous owners didn’t even bother to try to make this place less of a wreck.” I muttered as I started to walk through the house.
It was a very basic two-story home, with the necessary amount of rooms that would be more fitting for a happy family than a single loner like me.
I did my best to start unpacking my stuff.
But as the day went on, I could feel a wave of fatigue washed over me, causing me to feel sluggish.
Before long, I was far too tired to move, so I just laid on the bed and stared up at the ceiling.
“Well… at least I don’t have to feel guilty… it’s already pretty late as is…” I mumbled to myself as I could feel myself drift off.
Before long, I had fallen into a deep sleep.
And of course
It just had to be a nightmare
It was a memory of my past, I was all alone in my room.
In front of my younger self, was a small cupcake with a single lit candle on it
“…Happy Birthday to me…” I weakly spoke before I blew out the flame
I was then transported into an old classroom. Everyone around me was made out of shadows and their bodies seemed to dance in the non-extant wind.
“Okay, class. We will be having a test today” a silhouette up front spoke, assembly that’s supposed to be the teacher.
I looked down at the paper on my desk and froze. All of the “words” and “numbers” were a jumbled mess. It couldn’t even tell what anything on the test was supposed to mean.
“5 minutes left” the “teacher” spoke up, startling me.
How did I already have 5 minutes left?! Didn’t this test just start?!
In a panic, I picked up my pencil and just started writing feverishly on the paper.
“TIMES UP!” The “teacher” yelled out as I barely even finished the test.
I felt myself blink and the paper then changed
Now it had a comically large F on it
I quietly sighed as the “students” around me started to whisper
“HA! LOOK AT THAT! THE DUNCE FAILED AGAIN!”
“GEEZ! THEY REALLY ARE AN IDIOT AREN’T THEY?”
“PATHETIC!”
I just sighed quietly
Honestly, I experienced worse in my later years
Then, the scene changed once again
I found myself in a cubicle at my job
‘Oh wow…’ I thought to myself ‘A dream about my job…great.’
I got snapped out of my thoughts when a mountainous stack of papers was thrown onto my desk
“Get these reports done before noon,” said the gruff voice of my boss “OR ELSE YOUR FIRED!”
As I picked up one of the papers, I noticed a clock hanging from the wall.
And to my horror, the hands on the clock were spinning at a lightning speed
As I tried to quickly get started on my work, I suddenly felt myself start falling.
I soon found myself stranded in a dark abyss
As I tried to comprehend my surroundings, the faces of my past floated above me, mocking me and laughing maniacally
Honestly, their comedic size and appearance made it look like they were from some sort of cartoon
I tried to cover my ears, trying to block out their insults and torment
All of a sudden, I felt the world around me start to shake
“What the?! What’s happening?!” I called out, but I never got an answer
As everything around me continued to shake, I heard a very faint voice.
It sounded… feminine
“Hello?”
