Work Text:
Koga liked the rain, so it was weird to her when someone said they hated the rain.
She liked the rain for various reasons. It was calm, she would even say it was soothing and relaxing, it was refreshing, especially on a chilly morning right before class.
The sound of the rain falling to the ground, the trees cracking, the smell of petrichor, and the slight fog at the distance. It was a relaxing walk to class, even if it meant waking up early for a lesson she didn't really care about even in the slightest.
Not that Koga hated the class, which was monster history, but she disliked the professor. He was a middle aged man, bald, short as 1,40, really irritable and an awful teacher that just displayed videos he found on youtube and did not have a clue on how to give a lecture.
But then a familiar sweet aroma cut every negative thought she had that morning, and her attention was pulled towards the bus station; old and cozy, dim lights were giving just enough illumination to notice it through the fog. And there, under the old roof was laying the person Koga had already guessed, Oosawa Aya.
Aya was a mermaid from her class, a pretty girl who was also very kind and intelligent. They were friends? She wouldn't know how to answer that, they talked in the class they shared and sometimes they had lunch together, but Koga didn't want to make bold assumptions about their relationship status.
Mind you, she also had the most addictive and sweet aroma of all Koga had ever sensed. Not that was very important at the moment but it was a constant in Koga´s mind.
But then the vampire realized something about the mermaid, she was with her mermaid tail, not two human legs as per usual. And her mind went back to a conversation they had in human history, the hardest lesson of all because of how hard it was to concentrate with Aya´s aroma being so close to the pink haired girl, but the point was, they were keeping a little chat when the girl mentioned a time when she had been stuck in a grocery store for an hour because it was raining and if she came out, her mermaid tail would also come out.
Oh. Koga bit her lower lip as she approached, walking past bushes and coming out of the forest to the road, accidently stepping on a stick, and causing the mermaid to flinch and yelp, turning to stare at her in surprise. “Fuck, Koga-san, you scared me.” She laughed nervously as her eyes darted from her hands, which were resting on her lap, to Koga´s eyes.
“Oh sorry, I didn't mean to scare you.” She tried to smile, a soft curve appeared and her eyes went straight to the floor in embarrassment. “It's just that I saw you and maybe… you want me to carry you to class?”
She blurted the worst out way faster than she expected and the girl with pink eyes was staring at her with amusement, not saying a word but playing with a curl as she opened her mouth slightly.
What if she thought she was weird and creepy? What if she never talked to her again? What if she-
Before Aya would speak, Mitsuki spoke again. “You don't have to, I don't know if you think is weird but it's ok, I don't want to force you or anything-” Her nervous tone and the knot on her throat were choking her confidence and had Koga asking herself over and over again, why did she even try it?
“Koga-san, shut up.” Pink curl moved with grace, almost in slow motion as she giggled. The vampire closed her mouth immediately and stood uncomfortably in her feet, awaiting for the other to keep talking. “If I´m not a burden to you, I'd love to.” She spoke softly, her rosy lips seemed alluring under the dim lighting, her pink eyes shining with an enchanting peculiarness, and her body leaning closer to Koga, who stood a meter away with her hands by her sides and was moving her feet nervously.
“Um- yeah, no problem.” She shuttered, training not to let out her inner screams. It was hard to act nonchalant when the girl in front of her would look so effortlessly beautiful, but she had to keep it cool and be actually useful. The taller girl took a deep breath and kneeled down, avoiding Aya´s gaze, which maybe she was misreading, but it seemed like it was preying on her with amusement, and that just made her even more nervous.
“Are you sure you can lift me?” A curtain of pink curls fell in front of Koga, hitting her with the sweet vanilla and cherry aroma mixed with warm blood, her voice was slow, savoring the teasing as a little smirk adorned her lips.
Koga huffed with a smile, trying to act confident. “I'm stronger than I may look like.” With that said, she actually lifter Aya off the bench, ¿vampire power or homosexuality power?, and started walking towards the forest road to hide from the rain, she didn't mind the rain but the mermaid was already soaked enough.
“Aren't you trying to kidnap me, right?” The other girl said, smirking and moving her arms to hold on Koga, resting them behind her neck.
“Ah- no, why would-” Oh no, she already did think she was weird… fucking fuck!
“Koga-san, I'm just teasing you, relax.” A nervous giggled fell from her lips and hit the taller girl with sudden comfort. “But seriously, why the forest?”
“To hide from the rain, you´re already soaked enough to keep walking under the rain without cover, so this is the best we can do.”
“That´s…” Pink eyes searched for the gray pearls, and good lord, Koga could swear her knees felt like melting away into such a soft and alluring gaze. “Thoughtful of you. Thank you.” And with that, she leaned up and left a quick kiss on the vampire´s cheek.
Thankfully the forest had little light, if not, Aya would have definitely noticed the change of color on her whole face.
The rest of the walk was just little talk and banal affairs. Including classes.
“No way, I thought I was the only one who didn't like Mr.Welling!” Pink curls jumped in emotion and Koga had to strengthen her grip so Aya didn't fall flat to the muddy ground. “Sorry…” She murmured in apology, holding again to Koga´s neck.
“It's okay…” The vampire mumbled, just above a whisper, swallowing hard and trying to hold the girl in a way where she was secured but still respectfully. “But yeah, I really can't stand him, I could step on him though.” Aya laughed, maybe she thought that Koga was joking… debatable. But the vampire´s attention was fully focused on getting that beautiful sound again. Even if she didn´t know how to tell a joke. “Worst part, I'd actually like to learn some history, but to be honest with him I can just fall asleep on his lectures, if you can even call them that.”
Then there it was again, Koga was blessed as Aya giggled once again, like a god sent angel to bless her life in such a short timestamp. “Funny how a person's interest towards a topic can depend entirely on a person so…” The mermaid stopped speaking as she searched for the right words.
“Incapable?” The vampire tried to guess with a curious smile and a nervous look. But all unwelcoming feelings melted away as the other girl nodded and giggled.
“I was gonna say good for nothing, but that works too.” It was something silly to talk about, but there was something special about talking about it with her. And suddenly, the mermaid shifted in Koga´s arms, pointing towards the familiar building. “Oh, we´re already here!”
“Oh…” Was all she could manage out of her mouth. If Koga was being honest, she really wished they could spend more time together, alone and without worries.
“Well, Koga-san, thank you so much, I really owe you my life.” Pink curls bounced as they entered the building.
“No problem, anytime you like.” She said without thinking.
Why would she want that to happen again? Aya was in a really dangerous situation.
“Uh, I hope, that's soon enough.” Well, if the vampire didn't have a super audition, it could have been a confusion, but she clearly heard the mermaid say that in a soft whisper before leaning closer to kiss her cheek with a smile. “Thank you, my own prince Eric. I´ll see you around.”
And with that and a sly smirk she quickly disappeared into the bathroom, leaving the taller girl standing in the middle of the hall, blushing and mumbling nonsense. Very gay and confusing nonsense.
Afterwards, the days passed by and they continued talking like usual, except every time she could, Aya would tease Koga with the nickname of “My charming prince”, which normally got her to drop whatever she had in hands at the moment or to choke with mere air.
Except that one time…
The vampire smiled as she read Aya´s message announcing she was on her way to the classroom. Out of their study dates, they would also text each other about their plans for their day, and free time to spend it together.
Platonically of course…
“Koga-san, good morning!” A sweet voice came by her side, and a pressure onto her heart came with it. “How´s my charming prince?”
“Pretty good now that you´re here. How about you, my princess?”
God that was embarrassing. So embarrassing.
But was it worth it? Absolutely.
Koga would have sold her soul long ago if it meant looking at Oosawa Aya, the most beautiful girl she had ever laid eyes on, all red and stuttering because of her doing.
“Good me, I'm good also, yeah.”
Okay, maybe she was starting to understand why Aya liked to tease her that much.
