Work Text:
Princess Sofia the first, a young girl turned princess overnight. When looking at her you would have thought she was nothing more than a prim and proper princess despite not being born a princess. That however is far from the truth, all thanks to an amulet around her neck. From granting her different powers, to leading her to the secret library, to leading her becoming the Protector of the Ever Realm, her amulet never steered her wrong. One thing the amulet could do is bring princesses to her aid when she needed help, or bring her to other princesses when they needed help, which leads to now.
It had been a month since Vor had attacked her home, she was one of the most ancient and powerful evils that even all of the other protectors couldn’t stop altogether. Despite this and all other odds, she defeated Vor all by herself. Despite becoming a full fledged protector right after her victory over Vor, the protectors of the Mystic Isles told her to take a break. She desperately needed the break, no only to recover from what had happened, but to spend time with her family telling them about the adventures she went on and even showing them the secret library. The secret library seems to give her a break as well, since she hadn’t been called to do a story since that day, until now.
The amulet glowed a brilliant blue, Sofia knowing what it meant she went to tell one of her parents. One of the only good things that came from Vor's attack was that Sofia was finally able to tell her family and friends about her amulet, and her jobs. It was hard not being able to be truthful to keep them safe, and when Amber learned her secret, it was a huge relief. Especially when she helped cover for her in her absence. But now, she could tell her parents, promise to keep them updated and come back as soon as possible. Opening her father’s study and walking in, she saw her mother and father talking to one another.
“Dad, Mom, I was just summoned to the library to go help a new story.”
They both turned to her and smiled, “Is there anything me or your mother could do to help you prepare?”
“I don’t think so, I already have my bag that Cedric made and enchanted it for me to have with anything I could need already inside. I just wanted to let you know, I’ll call you when I can on my enchantlet.”
“Alright, we love you Sofia, please stay safe.”
“Don’t worry Mom I will, love you guys too."
Heading back to her room, she changed into her protector uniform and went to the, no longer secret to her family, secret library. Entering the library, books lit up and one book came down. She read the title “The Pop Troll Princess” before the book went flying into the magic mirror turning into mist swirling to form a picture.
The narrator started “Once Upon a Time deep within a forest was a beautiful tree full of trolls. These trolls were known as some of the happiest creatures to exist, always singing, dancing and hugging each other. However there were others envious of their happiness one of those creatures were known as the bergins.
They were the exact opposite of trolls, always miserable, always mean to each other and thought that happiness was something they had to put inside to be happy. One day a bergen decided to try and eat a troll, thinking that since trolls were happy they could gain the trolls happiness by eating them. The Bergens felt happy eating the troll, however eating the troll was not the cause of them being happy, but they didn't realize this. Eventually it became so popular to eat a troll to become happy that they cage the trolls and created a holiday where they ate trolls known as trollstice.
For years the trolls were eaten and could do nothing to stop it until the brave King Peppy decided enough was enough and had planned an escape by creating a tunnel outside and leaving dolls in their place. As they finally were able to leave Bergen Town, but it was on the day they dreaded the most, Trollstice. The bergens came to eat the trolls, but found none and quickly caught on that they had left. They quickly searched for any sign of the trolls and soon found out they were using a tunnel. They quickly dug into the ground trying to find the trolls, but they were too late and every single troll was able to escape that day.
The chef, the one in charge of the trolls, was banished for allowing the trolls to escape. She swore she would return and gain revenge on those who banished her.
The trolls, having successfully escaped, found the valley hidden deep in the woods and for 20 years remained there in safety. However, during the celebration of their escape 20 years ago the new generation were less cautious than the older and they threw the biggest party ever seen. This party caught the attention of the chef who had been hunting them ever since her banishment, in order to get back into Bergantown and become their queen.
The trolls ran and hid, but it was too late and a handful of trolls were taken by the chef promising to return for the others. The old king Peppy wanted the trolls to run and hide, however his daughter refused and announced she would follow the bergin to save other trolls who were taken. She went to get the help of a survivalist troll who had warned her previously that her parties were too loud and would catch the attention of the bergins. When asked, he refused, scared of the Bergans due to his past and not wanting to get hurt, he told the princess he would stay hidden in his bunker.
The princess then took the rest of the tribe down to his bunker due to the provisions the survivalist had collected for himself as well as protection. She hoped the loner survivalist would be convinced to come with her, due to his hatred of others’ invading his space and being touched by others. Despite being upset he still refused and the princess left on her own hoping he would follow her eventually. As she adventures to the forest she comes across all sorts of sights and dangers, but the princess doesn't even realise that she is in danger, and continues on her journey.”
As the story comes to an end Sofia’s amulet glows and before she knows it she's deep in the forest as a troll that she saw in the book. Now Sophia was used to this stuff, changing into different species, perfectly normal. Being summoned to help a princess that was something more recent but not new. Someone being in a dangerous situation needed her help, that was pretty much an everyday thing nowadays. All three of these situations at once really took the cake.
Sofia looked at herself, her skin was purple and her hair was still up in a ponytail and was now a light periwinkle that looked more like a pale blue, and was still wearing her protector uniform and gear. Sofia quickly looked around to see if she could find the pop princess and quickly saw a cocoon of spider's web and then there laid the princess. She heard noises from above and quickly looked up to see spiders descending on them, using her enchantlet, she pulled the princess over to her and tied the spiders together, quickly fling them over the hill.
She quickly went over to the princess to check on the princess and realized she didn't hear a heartbeat or see her breathing. Looking around she found a spike and two electric bugs and quickly grabbed them. Using the spiked cut open the cocoon, she rubbed the bugs together and quickly slammed the bugs on the princess’s chest causing her heart to start beating again. Sofia sighed she was glad the princess was right, what she didn't expect was the princess to shoot up and scream “GET BACK UP AGAIN!”
The princess looks to Sofia about to speak then hesitates, “Wait a sec you're not Branch, who are you?”
Sofia looks confused, “you were expecting someone?”
Poppy sighed “yes, I expected Branch would change his mind after the third hug time, that being eaten by a bergin wouldn't seem so bad.”
Sofia looked startled by that information, “Hopefully not, being eaten by anything or anyone should always be horrible. Well, my name is Sofia, I heard about what happened and I came to help you free your friends from the bergins.”
Poppy squealed, “Really?! Thank you! I'm Poppy, princess of the trolls.”
Sofia smiles, “So what's you plan to get your friends back?”
Poppy started to walk forward, “Follow the bergin tracks, rescue everyone and make it home safely.”
Sofia walked in front of Poppy, “That's not a plan, that's what we want to achieve. What I meant is, how do you plan on getting into the town without being spotted by the bergins? If they see either of us, they will fight over us or eat us before anyone else so they can feel happy.”
Poppy's face scrunched, “I don't know.”
Sofia sighed, “Well, do you think the tunnels used for the escape are still there?”
Poppy lights up, “Yes, there still is, we can use the tunnels to get into bergin town!”
Sofia smiled, “Ok, we have part of a plan, we should get moving, any time wasted is less time for the trolls that were captured.” Poppy whooped and followed the tracks once again with Sofia following.
