Work Text:
The sky is tearing apart at the seams. Ash falling from the sky. The bright beam of light streaks through the earth. Standing atop the mountain overlooking the broken horizon. Stands the lone monkey demon. Not any ordinary demon. The Harbinger of Chaos- MK the Monkie Kid.
The screams plead at him from behind, begging him.
“MK STOP!”
“MK DON’T”
“WE CAN FIND ANOTHER WAY!”
“DON'T GO!”
He tears his head away. He can’t listen to them…or else…or else he might listen. But he’s already made up his mind. The world breaks faster and faster by the second. He has no choice. He has to… He must… After all this is his DESTINY….
He summons his cloud taking off to the sky at inhuman speeds. He can hear the screams and feel a burst of energy behind him but he doesn’t look back. He only has one goal in mind.
That is until something slams him into the ground. His head spins in pain from the impact. He looks up at Sun Wukong towering over him.
He can’t-
He can’t fight him-
His idol…
His mentor…
His father…?
No- NO!
He can’t hesitate.
There's no time.
MK charges as the two monkeys exchange blows. Chasing after the other throwing punches after their kicks. Until Wukong has MK pinned to the ground bound by golden chains. MK struggles tugging and pulling at the chains with all his might. His heart pounds in his chest with fear.
“There’s so much I didn’t get to teach you yet…” Wukong walks close to MK looking down at him.
No….he can’t….he isn’t….it’s not his place…he shouldn’t have to sacrifice himself for MK’s sake…
“MONKEY KING NO! PLEASE!” MK bags as he pulls and pulls at the chains. “THIS- THIS HAS TO HAPPEN! THIS IS THE ONLY WAY!”
Wukong looks down at him in silence with regret and sorrow in his eyes. He clenches his fist tight as he turns away facing the light pillar.
“You’re right….seems like this really is the only way to save everyone.” Wukong says remorseful.
“Then- Then you have to let me go!” MK pleads.
Wukong just stares up at the pillar. “Whatever the goddess of destiny has planned for you….You came from the same stone as I did…”
MK doesn't know where this is going. “What..”
“Destiny can’t have you…..it can have me instead.” Wukong looks back at MK with his back still turned.
MK’s mind goes blank. “No…Money King!”
“The world needs you more than it needs me bud. Thank you…for everything…” Before MK can respond Monkey King jumps into the air on his cloud speeding toward the pillar.
“MONKEY KING! STOP!” MK yells after him. “PLEASE!”
With all his might MK pulls and pulls and pulls AND PULLS at the chain. His shoulders burn feeling like his arms would snap off. He can feel the glitching shaking him to his soul. Until finally he breaks the chains off.
STOP
Wukong hears MK’s yell. He ignores him leaping towards the pillar when suddenly he can feel the filet tighten on his head at a pain even worse than what Tripitaka would punish him with. He tries to ignore the pain but it’s too much.
His head pounds, breaking and tearing him apart. He falls to the ground denting the earth. He can hear someone screaming in agonizing pain. His eyes hurt from the bright light in front of him. His ears ringing from the screams. His mind tearing apart. He claws at the ground, his sharp claws digging up the earth. Suddenly feet enter his vision. He looks up seeing MK at the edge of the cliff.
“NO- NGH- NO NO MK- PLEASE NO- NOO-!” Wukong screams out terrified and in pain.
He can’t lose MK.
His student.
His Son-?
He was supposed to protect him…and he failed…he always fails everyone he loves…
The world is finally at its end…
No one can stop him
Slowly MK walks closer and closer to the edge. Wukong, still screaming and pleading with MK but MK pays him no mind. MK stops just at the ledge glancing back at Wukong for the last time.
“I’m sorry…it has to be me…”
Time has reached its end as MK steps into the light. The pillar consuming him. As the whiteness clouds Wukong’s vision.
He couldn’t save him…
She was right…
Destiny always plays out in the end…
