She was a creature so ancient that none alive even recalled her name.
As she settled heavily on the strange stone edifices some inferior beings had built, she bared her teeth at the knowledge that she’d already been here when all this sand had been solid stone.
Through darkness, lethal heat, and interminable cold, she’d endured and waited faithfully.
It had been half an eternity since she’d last had news of her mate—red and gold like glowing embers—and she started to worry.
Who could have defeated a great firedrake? Who would have dared to try?
Hopeful, she lingered.
