"Weshouldformapack!" Is what started the whole spiral this ended up becoming.
Kon frowns to understand, then raises an eyebrow. "You mean 'we' as in Young Justice? We should form a pack?"
Sitting on the floor of the base, Bart looks like he's three seconds away from vibrating himself through the floor. Cassie keeps on munching her popcorn with no care.
"How'd that even work?" She asks.
Shrugging, Bart answers, "No idea. Everyone bites each other and we're a pack?"
Kon tries to picture it. His mind ends up conjuring all of them trying to bite the others like they're having a dog fight.
"That wouldn't work," Tim interrupts their musings.
Turning to him, Kon raises an eyebrow. Bart beats him in asking, "Why not?"
The Bat finally looks up from his computer. "Because we are all already bonded in our own packs. If we bonded, we would have to hold our childhood packs closed off or they would start tying the rest of those packs into a bond by proxy," he points out.
Cassie snorts, drawing everyone's eyes to her. She grins, "Imagine Batman, the Flash, and Lex Luthor being pack members."
And that image... Kon bursts out laughing, and Bart immediately follows. It would be utter chaos.
"Actually," He hears Tim mutter, "The biggest question would be on what would happen if the packs merged?"
"What do you mean?" Cassie asks.
The Bat looks contemplative as he explains, "Well, we are assuming that all of us stay with our packs when we'd become one. Which means that our existing bonds would start connecting with the others since pack bonds are supposed to tie together the whole pack. It's not impossible to stay separate, but there's a very real chance that all of our packs would just melt into one." And that's... Weird to picture.
"Oooooh, that wouldn't go well," Bart, of all people, comments.
Turning to him, Kon asks, "Why's that? I mean, outside of having Batman for packmate." And he shudders at the thought.
But Bart says, "Cuzwe'dallbeintheSpeedsterstruggle!"
Tim snaps his head towards him. "What Speedster struggle?"
He looks ready to start a mission report if whatever is said next is deemed important enough.
Bart either doesn't notice or ignores it, because he tells them, "The whole leader thing. Cuz Speedster don't really care 'bout the whole gender hierarchy thing, the pack changes who's in charge, like, every other day. Reverse gramps was the pack head a few times."
That's so weird but before he can say that, Cassie burst in, "Reverse? Like, the Reverse Flash?!"
Bart nods "Yep!" popping the 'p' like it's normal for the Flash's archenemy to sometimes lead his family.
"And does that happen often?" Tim asks deceptively calm. It's a valid concern since, apparently, a supervillain is occasionally the boss of at least three powerhouse heroes. Bart counts too.
Bart waves his hand around in a so-so gesture. "Depends?"
Depends on what?! Thankfully Tim asks exactly that. "On if the timeline or Speedsters as a whole are in danger," is the answer.
Again, what? Tim needles on, clearly desperate for information. "And how does that lead to the Reverse Flash gaining the leadership role?"
Sniffing, Bart says "Cuz he's the expert on time travel."
That doesn't make any sense. Kon frowns confused, "Aren't all Speedsters time travel experts?"
Bart snorts, and Kon feels personally offended.
"Nah," He says, "Gramps always accidentally alters the timeline and the others aren't really interested in the whole thing. Reverse gramps knows how to move around without consequences." Bart pauses, then adds, "When he doesn't try to fight." What are they even talking about at this point?
"Ignoring all of that," Cassie interrupts the brooding breakdown, "The way to stop the pack merging would be to cut off the previous pack bonds, right?"
All of them turn to look at her. Kon cuts that thought off with a sharp "No."
While having more packmates would be awesome and his best friends would make the greatest one of all time... That would mean breaking off his bond with Lex. And as much as he loves to trash talk the Beta, there's no way he'd leave the man packless.
Sure, Lex was that way before Kon existed, but he's here now. Neither of them have to be alone.
Tim nods in agreement, "I can't cut the bond with Batman. He needs it too much."
Right. Kon completely forgot that Tim is, like, Batman's emotional support sidekick. Which is weird since he's an Alpha trying to manage another, older Alpha. Maybe it's because he's tiny? Tiny Tim doing serious faces couldn't be seen as a challenger.
Cassie sighs. "I couldn't either. Amazons pack bonds are like holding threads and are about as useful as knowing that someone is alive. My mom wouldn't want to be stuck not even knowing that."
Which makes sense, but is also kind of weird. Try living for thousands of years like that.
"Awww," Bart pouts. "No being packmates then." Glancing at each other, that does seem to be the end result.
"Nope," Kon says, "No Batman, Flash, and Lex crossover."
"Or fighting for the pack leader position," Cassie adds.
All of them grimace. That would end up as the ugliest fight of the century, overshadowing alien invasions and world-ending events. Maybe they're doing the world a service.
