Moira couldn’t help but wish there were more doors that she could slam in Oasis, if only for the fact it might make her feel better.
Though there was little on this earth aside from Doomfist giving the science department unlimited funds that would make her feel any better right now.
Letting out another frustrated hiss the Irish women rounded another corner and ascended the stairs, stepping through the translucent barrier that had previously acted as a security shield before the event of last night and now failed to even keep bugs out. The whole security system had gone down, god knows when Helix would get it up and running again-
A flicker of movement inside her laboratory had Moira snapping out of her mental tirade and whirling to face the intruder, only for her shock to turn to anger as she realised exactly who it was.
“What are you doing here!?” The geneticist snapped at the other women who was in the mist of pulling one of the vanadium shards out of the wall with gloved hands.
Doctor Anya Al-Shahrani paused at the other women’s voice, she turned to look at Moira, merely giving her a nod in acknowledgment.
“Minister O’Deorain, I apologise for the intrusion.” She began calmly, turning to fully face the taller women.
“I was merely collecting a sample of the expelled Vanadium, we did have an agreement after all-”
“Minister Al-Shahrani, my lab was ransacked last night, I’m sure you can understand my concerns over handing out samples is the least of my worries right now!” Moira hissed out, gesturing sharply to the utter chaos her lab was in.
The dark skinned women nodded in understanding.
“Of course, have they found anything about the perpetrators?” She asked.
Moira barely swallowed down a frustrated noise.
“Considering that the geology department is just down the hall do you not think it would have been prudent to check for yourself?! I doubt you would be this calm had it been your department thrown into utter chaos!” She replied sharply.
“And since this is my lab in which the weaponised Vanadium was used as a firing range I’ll kindly ask you to leave it be!” She tacked on.
Minister Al-Shahrani merely raised her hands in surrender.
“Of course, I suppose it was arrogant of me to come in here, even without a functioning authorisation system.” She said tilting her head in a gesture of acceptance as she pulled her gloves off and moved over to one of the lab benches where Moira realised there was a coffee cup sat upon, steam swirling off the top of the drink.
“Is that-this is a laboratory! A sterilised environment-drinks are strictly prohibited here!” Moira barked.
“Ah, yes I apologise, again me being arrogant, I assumed that with all the damage already done-”
“Well you thought wrong, please take your drink and leave!” Moira snarled, jobbing a finger at the open doorway.
“Of course, my apologies Doctor O’Deorian.” She said, giving her a short bow before moving towards the exit as Moira turned back to her desk, already uprighting some glass beakers strewn about.
“Oh, I must tell you there is a meeting about you later.” The geologist called just before she got to the exit.
Moira was about to repeat her statement to leave before the women’s words caught up to her and Moira froze before turning to face her.
“About me?” she replied incredulously.
“Yes, you did after all break several protocols Oasis has by contacting Helix security with potentially sensitive information outside of our own encrypted communications network here at Oasis.” Anya said patiently, as if talking to a child.
“After all, it was from an outside network that the emails you sent were intercepted and your oasis account hacked.” The geologist continued to Mora who was now standing with her mouth open looking utterly horrified.
Anya nodded to her before turning and descending down the steps.
“Anya…” Moira suddenly spoke up with a tone utterly devoid of warmth.
“Yes Moira?”Said women replied evenly, turning to see the minster of genetics glaring at her.
Moira tilted her chin up before speaking in a cool tone.
“I believe that due to this recent break in I may have to put samples of Vanadium on hold indefinitely, as my budget will undoubtedly have to go towards paying toward repairs for both the lab and the material lost within it. Safe to say that unless I can receive financial support from the other ministries, I simply may not be able to ‘hold up my end’ of the bargain. I’m sure you can understand.” The Irish woman said, eyes locked on hers.
Anya nodded.
“I understand doctor, your lab, your rules, what is within your space is yours to do as you please, and vice versa.” The geologist nodded, still with a small smile.
Moira’s lip twisted at the roundabout way the smaller women was speaking before she replied.
“That is correct but-”
“So you would not be opposed to the other ministers utilising their own samples of Vanadium that were fired upon their departments in last nights excitement?” Anya interrupted.
Moira blinked, a look of confusion appearing on her face before it morphed into dawning realisation.
“I-what? I’ve not seen any!” Moira stuttered out, horror beginning to crawl across her face.
“You always take the back entrance into your lab, by the time you first emerged the rest of the shards elsewhere were accounted for.” The geologist explained as Moira slowly turned and staggered to a desk.
“We of course fairly divided the total number based on potential use but are open to further sharing should you need it-”
“W-Well why were you bloody well here!?” Moira snarled, composure slipping away by the second as she managed to jab a shaking finger at the shard the smaller women had been trying to take.
“You were clearly busy and you had offered me some.” Anya shrugged, half turning to exit down the corridor to her department.
“I suppose we’ve both learned about taking things that aren’t ours.” She said, smiling thinly at Moira before taking a sip of her coffee and turning to the corridor where a familiar women was coming down holding another crystal in gloved hands.
“Ah, looks like my secretary has found some more shards, I’ll see you later.” Anya said, smiling brightly at Moria, who’s face was twisting into fury by the second, before simply striding down the hall, lips twitching into an even bigger smile when a furious scream echoed out of Moria’s lab followed by the sound of glass breaking.
Arrogance indeed.
