I will wait
His small body was sitting on the large windowsill, the sunset covered him in a beautiful red and orange. „Here you are.“ Team looked up to see how Win walked up to him. „I looked everywhere for you.“ The younger one didn’t say a word he was just nodding his head and pulled his legs up to his upper body. Win gave him a soft smile and sat down in front of him. Both were sitting on the windowsill, covered in the beautiful colors of the sunset. Both stayed silent, just looking out of the window being mesmerized by the sun going down and making room for the moon.
„I’m sorry.“ Win broke the silence. Team didn’t turn his head, but spoke with a quiet voice. „You don’t have to.“ „But I am.“ Win wouldn’t back down. The younger wrapped his arms around his legs and turned his head a little to his lover, making eye contact with him. „It’s not like it’s your fault.“ Team tried to sound generous, but both knew he was hurt. Hurt that his lover, his senior, his other half wouldn’t be there for his graduation. For the thing they both were waiting for, fighting for.
„I’ll come back as soon as possible.“ Win tried his best to show Team how sorry he felt, but Team just turned his head back to the window. „It’s your job, you have to go.“ Just a few days before Win was called from England, one of his work colleague needed him for a contract and it was impossible to delay it any further. They both knew that, because Win tried his best to do it. He talked to his colleague and the contract partner, that on this day he just couldn’t be there. But all the effort was for nothing. He had to go.
Team understood it, but he was still hurt. He looked forward to this day. He imagined how Win would congratulate him for finishing college, for being the best in the swimming club, for archiving so many things and also for fulfilling his dream to be a professional swimmer.
„I know that this is your job, Hia. I’ll just wait for you to return and then we can celebrate.“ Teams voice was still quiet, nothing like usual. Win put a hand on his knee. „Team, I’ll make it fast. I’m going to sign it and fly back.“ Team shook his head. „No, take your time. I’ll wait for you.“ He looked back to his Hia again and small smile on his face. „I always waited for you, right?“ Team didn’t intend to hurt Win with this, but it did hurt him.
Win knew how much Team waited for him. Always. But he would make him wait, over and over again. „I won’t make you wait again. Never again. I promise.“ Win assured him, Teams voice got even quieter. „Don’t make promises you can’t keep,“ but Win heard him. He heard him in his ears and heart. The hand on Teams knee changed to Wins head. „I’m sorry. I wish I could change this about me, but it’s just how my life is.“
Win didn’t want to make Team feel pain, he didn’t want to make him wait. He wanted him to be happy, be together. Despite all the hurt he gave to his younger lover, Team always waited. With a smile. With love.
Even now, Team put his hand on Win’s head. „It’s okay, Hia. Really. I’ll wait, always. I wouldn’t do it for anyone, but for you I’ll do it in a heartbeat.“ Win didn’t deserves this boy, the boy who had a trauma, the boy who had sleeping problems, the boy who was scared. But he was also the boy who made him feel love and is the most generous and warmed hearted person he ever knew.
„I don’t want you to always wait for me. I want to be by your side, always.“ He snuggled his cheek on Teams knee, which made Team giggle lightly, he kept on patting Win’s head. „I know and we will be together, always. It’s just that for this day. Just one more day of waiting.“ Team knew that this was not true, after both of them started working for real they will have to endure even more waiting. Each and every day, an endless time of waiting. But it will be different, because at the end of the day they will be together in one bed, holding each other in their arms, giving soft kisses and smiles. Just them and nothing else in this world.
Win looked up, chin on Teams knee. „You’re too good to me, Team.“ „I know, Hia.“ Finally Team was going back to his playful self. Win answered with a grin. „You should have said ‚No, Hia, you’re too good for me‘.“ Team laughed and cupped Win’s face in his hand, he slowly put his legs down each one beside of Win. Both got closer to each other. Win half laying on Team and Team still holding Wins face.
„You’re too good for me, Hia. But the love we share is equally.“ Win’s breathing stopped for a second, he didn’t expect this from Team, but he loved it. He leaned even closer and pressed a light kiss on his lovers lips. Soft and warm, taking in every bit of love they could feel at this moment. Win let go of his lips and looked him deep into his eyes. „I love you, Team.“ Team chuckled. „I love you too, Hia.“
They shifted in their position. Win leaned on the wall of the windowsill and Team leaned on Win. They intertwined their fingers, holding up their hands. „One day, we will wear rings, wouldn’t that be cool?“ Win laughed. „Cool? That’s how you would call it? Wouldn’t it be more... romantic? Or maybe beautiful?“ „No, I think cool is better for us. You know, we are the best swimmers and the coolest guys ever. So us being together bound with a ring, would be cool.“ Team tried his best to convince his feelings to his lover. Win just laughed with his full body, which made Team fall up and down.
„When I get back let’s go to this restaurant you mentioned when I was still in England.“ Team frowned. „Hia, I already went there and it was horrible.“ Win knew how much Team loved food and how spoiled he was by Nong Pharm. „Then where do you want to eat then? I want to make you happy.“ Team thought for a little while.
„Yours-„ „Mine?“ Win grabbed Teams waist closer to his body. „Not that, pervert. Your cooking. I want to eat your homemade cooking. I always loved it.“ Both laughed together, holding close. Enjoying the moment together as the sun finally settled down completely. The night became quiet.
„Will you do the proposal or do I have to do it?“ Team asked out of the blue, Win didn’t expected this question. „It will be a surprise I guess? Maybe we will do it at the same time. I know how our brains are one.“ Team smiled and took their hands, that were still intertwined, to his lips and kissed the one of Win. „Yeah, that sounds like us.“
Win closed his eyes, enjoying the moment even more. „I wish we could stay like this forever, I don’t want to work or go anywhere without you anymore.“ „That’s stupid. We need our time alone, Hia.“ Win put his head on Team’s shoulder. „I know, but I just like this moment so much, I don’t want to ever let you go.“ Separation anxiety was one of the things Team knew Win had, Win was always scared to lose him, to not be good enough for him. But Team always made sure to show how much he loved his Hia, how he would never go away.
„Hia.“ Team wiggled out of the back hug, turned around and sat on Wins lap. He looked the older deep into his eyes. „I already told you, I’ll wait no matter how long.“ Team put his mouth over Wins before the older could argue. Their kiss was going from soft and calm to more. Team pushed his body closer to Win, straddling his hips over Wins lap. He opened his mouth a little, making room for their tongue to meet. For them to dance, to feel each other on a deeper level. Exploring the others mouth.
Soft groans were stuck in their throats, a hand found its way up the back of Team. Grabbing his neck, pushing him even closer. After what felt like an eternity they let go of each other. Just so far apart to put a piece of paper inbetween. Breathing on each others face. The moment was for them and only them.
Suddenly both started laughing, loud and with so much joy. Team put his head on Wins shoulder. „You’re everything to me, Hia. I love you so much and no matter how much time past I’ll be waiting for you. I promise.“ Win put his hand on Teams head, patting him. „I know and I’ll do the same. I’ll wait for you, no matter how long I have to wait, no matter where I have to wait. I love you-„
„Team?“
The boy looked up and realized where he was. He was standing in front of a window, watching the sunset. „Here you are, everyone was looking for you.“ Pharm ran up to him. Team was still looking out the window. „Are you okay?“ Pharm put his hand on Teams shoulder.
„I am waiting.“ Pharm was confused. „Waiting? We’re waiting for you Team. We were looking for you everywhere. It is time now.“ Team turned his head with a sad smile. „I know. It’s time, right?“ Pham nodded, a smile that tried to give reassurance on his face. They both started walking away from the window.
„What were you waiting for, Team?“ Pharm wanted to know, he didn’t understand how Team was thinking right now, the whole situation was new to him. „I was waiting for him to return.“ Pharm now understood, he grabbed Teams hand. „We will go to him now, Team. It will be okay. We’re all here with you.“ Pharm tried his best to keep his tears from falling, but the saddness just broke out of him. Seeing his best friend like this, it broke his heart.
„It’s okay, Pharm. I know he his back for me and I also know that he will now wait for me. Wherever he is now.“ Finally they arrived looking down on the grave of his Hia, his lover, of Win.
Just as Win was about to return to Team, holding the ring in his hand and a big smile on his face, the car he was in got into an accident. Cars crashed together, everyone tried their best to help. One car started to burn another was upside down. It was horrible a lot of people died that day and he, Win was part of it.
The waiting would never end for Team, Win thought in his last moments.
But Team knows that now Win has to wait, wait for long before they can be together again. Team smiled down to the grave.
„Please wait a little longer, okay Hia?“
