“There’s so much of you in my heart”
Dimitri felt himself growing weaker as he finally felt the weight of his actions . He had completed an impossible task- he finally confessed his deepest adoration for that person. His confession was a rambling of a fool in love -bumbling over his words like a child yet he can’t find it within himself to regret the words of his confession; after all it came within the depths of his heart. That person was someone who he cherished and adored- one that belonged within his most joyful memories; someone who brought encompassing joy even during his darkest days. Khalid; with his wide grin that made his dimples appear and forest green eyes shining alight with mischief however both hid loneliness- something which resonated with his own self doubt. Dimitri sighed- trying to reign in his own beating heart; he thought he would be ready for this reunion yet it seemed like it was inevitable that he would be overwhelmed with joy just by the possibility of reuniting with him. He had practically thrown himself to his bed; hopefully not too hard to alarm the others.
His friendship with Khalid has always been one of the highlights of their yearly trip to Almyra. Their beginnings felt like it was destined, as his own family only planned on staying within a hotel for a while but extended their trip once his father managed to reunite with an old friend who actually co-owned the hotel alongside her husband; both of whom were Khalid’s parents. The couple were a friendly bunch; inviting his family over for dinner and eagerly sharing the most spots that weren’t just tourist spots; while their son tended to stick close to them.
Khalid was quite timid initially; however, as time passed and the places became increasingly more playful, he somehow managed to warm up to him. They shared similar interests that it was easy to swap stories and make their own adventures with their own imagination even if it usually ended up with them in trouble. After reconnecting with the family, his father made an effort to continue communications - that way, both families would meet up yearly. It didn’t simply stop at Almyra - but also Brigid, Dagda and Albinea. He and Khalid even had constant communication through messaging apps- but it wasn’t simply enough as Dimitri always longed to reunite with Khalid which made jealousy rise out of Edelgard and his own group of friends when they were younger. Although all of his friends held a place in his heart- his own being longed to be with Khalid; clinging onto the memories.
The days of summer where they found shade under trees, sharing their current hobbies, aspirations and the ongoings of life- never quite dull, and filled with childhood glee. As the saying goes “absence makes the heart grow fonder”; it was completely and utterly the case with himself. Despite only their yearly reunion and messages, it was never quite enough- Dimitri would have never really called himself as “greedy” yet it was difficult to convince a younger version of himself not to cling to Khalid; even now it was difficult. Yet, this greed of his never felt like a sin. The two of them simply tended to revolve around each other- thriving just by being in each other’s presence like how the tides tended to follow the moon. They were stuck in each other’s orbit- conversation simply flowed easily- topics never ending and any silence was simply made to catch their voice. Yet it felt like his heart consistently longs for Khalid’s presence - grounding him, alerting him of his own growing feelings towards his friend, and simply unburdening feelings of isolation.
Dimitri sat down on his bed; as he reflected back to his confession and the trip as a whole. Everyone could tell that he was excited for their yearly trip - but he wonders if he hid his intention well enough. Even on the hiking trail, Dimitri tended to spoil Khalid with as much as attention as he wanted much to the displeasure of his half sister- who tended to hate when her step brother turned into a love stricken idiot in her words.
Edelgard would probably tease him once she found out- she had always been supportive of their friendship; sometimes hinting Khalid to be a decent brother in law so his crush must have been rather obvious. El has always been quite upfront- often saying that he always looked dazed when they returned from their trips - looking as though he wanted to return to Almyra just to catch a glimpse of Khalid again. Dimitri had plans on keeping his relationship initially a secret…but once this all blew over, he would never hear the end of it.
Khalid couldn’t quite resist the urge to smile- he had a crush on his friend for a while now; surprisingly it was Dimitri that initially confessed to him. It was utterly adorable to see the earnest expression - stating words of admiration that still echoed within his ears even several hours afterwards. He had always wanted to find a love similar to his parents - so he had always kept his heart close. Saving himself from the heartache always made him reevaluate his desire for Dimitri yet even before the confession- he had already decided to pursue him; to risk it all for him regardless of the consequences.
Somehow his dearest companion found a way to surprise him by confessing their own feelings first. He never would have expected to be surprised by a confession- and it being the first thing that Dimitri did after a hiking trail on the first day that he came back. Looking back, perhaps it was perhaps left over adrenaline from the hike or just passion that refused to be smothered any longer. In a way, it cleared all his doubts that this was the person that he wanted to spend his time, no, his life with- regardless of the length.
Khalid felt a grin creeping on his face as he recalled the nervousness that cloaked Dimitri’s being from his blush to how he touched his own hair. A nervous tick that followed him even from his childhood. In that matter, Khalid also couldn’t quite appreciate the scene at that moment as he felt overwhelmed by sheer bliss- the answer could never have been anything other than yes. For now though, he should compose himself: He had to get ready- after all, he needed to wear his best outfits in order to stun his audience of one. Dimitri would probably like any outfits of his- but he needed to blow it out the water that it wasn’t simply a summer fling rather something that he wanted to maintain in the long run.
He doesn’t know what Dimitri had plans for their date but he was eager to find out. Maybe even handing out a kiss at the end.
