“All right, sound off,” Warriors said, going through the post portal routine.
“Wind.”
“Twilight. Wild don’t start climbing trees until after roll call.”
“Time, and Four is over by me.”
“Sky, along with Legend and Hyrule”
The chain had just spent a lovely few days at Lon Lon Ranch and now have to continue their adventure. Unfortunately where they ended up was not as nice as the ranch. Instead it was a forest, with leafless trees and a yellowish grey sky.
“Where the fuck are we?” Legend asked.
“I don’t know,” Wild replied, halfway up a tree.
Four sat up, he was feeling better from the effects of the portal and he looked around. “I’m more concerned about the fact that the woods are very very dead looking.”
Twilight tossed his hands into the air. “So we’re lost, great!”
Hyrule looked like he was the only one who was in a good mood. “Guys i’m pretty sure this is my world,” He exclaimed with a smile.
“So we’re super lost, fantastic,” Wind said through a mouthful of food. Well, that’s what everyone thinks he said, it was kinda hard to tell. They hadn’t even been in this era for 10 minutes before he had started eating his share of the snacks Malon gave the group.
Warriors ignored the fact Wind was talking with his mouth full. After all, they had more important things to deal with. “All right, someone get out a compass so we know what direction to go in.”
Four was the first to grab his. “Umm… my compass isn’t working.”
This prompted multiple links to pull theirs out. The compass needle was moving non stop. One second it would be pointing north, the next it would be pointing south. Some of the links were trying to no avail to get them to work. Twilight kept shaking his to see if that would fix it. Legend just kept grabbing different ones and none worked, much to his dismay.
“Fuck mine isn’t working either,” Legend spoke. He started angrily shoving his many compasses back into his bag.
“Great, we're lost and our compasses don’t work.” Twilight said, because today he apparently decided to be a pessimist.
Hyrule seemed to be the only one in the group who wasn’t concerned about where they were at all. “We’re not lost,” He chirped.
“Yeah Hyrule we ar-,” Sky had started.
“No we’re not.”
“Yes we are.”
Hyrule was starting to get annoyed. “We’re not lost. I know exactly where we are”
“And where are we?” Four asked.
“The Lost Woods,” Hyrule replied confidently. None of the others shared that same confidence. It got so quiet that you could have heard a pin drop in the silence that followed that statement.
“So you’re telling me that we are in the woods that literally have Lost in the name but we’re not lost,” Legend said. He was clearly trying to get Hyrule to see how his statement didn’t make sense. But unfortunately for Legend, it was Hyrule’s world. Also Hyrule was the expert and it doesn’t matter if anyone else understands it, as long as Hyrule does it’s fine.
“Yep.”
Time was exasperated and was already wishing that a portal would come to take them back to the ranch. “Hyrule, how do we get out of the woods?”
“Just go east,” Hyrule said, as if it was the simplest thing in the world.
“Umm we don’t know which way is east. Our compasses don’t work. Is there any other way to get out?” Sky asked.
“Well, the only other way to get out is to go north, west, south and west again. But we don’t need to go that way and we don’t need a compass to find east.” Hyrule replied nonchalantly.
“How are we supposed to find east? We can’t see the sun to even use that as a guide. And I highly doubt that a sundial would work either.” Warriors said.
“Too cloudy for sundials.” Wild had at some point come down from the tree and tested to see if sundials would work. “And it just looks like these four pathways go on forever. The only thing I can see is lots of dead trees as far as the eye can see.”
“We don’t need things like the sun or landmarks to find east, we’ll find it by walking,” Hyrule said.
“How does walking help us find which way is east,” Wind asked.
“The woods has four pathways. Each pathway lines up with one of the four directions. So all we need to do is follow each path until we find east,” Hyrule explained.
“How will we know that we’ve found east?” Time
“If you take any path other than east you end up right back here,” Hyrule said. “We’ll know when we’ve found east because the forest will look different.”
Wild really wanted to see what else was in this era besides a forest that looked like it was never ending. “Well then we should start walking since it sounds like this may take a while.”
Wind did not look happy to hear that. “Ugh more walking!”
Warriors ignored Wind's comment. “Is there any place near here that is safe to spend the night?”
“Yeah, there’s a fairy fountain not too far from here,” Hyrule replied.
“A fairy fountain sounds like a good destination. Hyrule it’s your world, you take the lead,” Time said.
“Okay! Everyone follow me.” Hyrule smiled, it was good to be home.
