Work Text:
As Charlie sat in the Griffindor common room he was reading a letter that The Romanian Dragon Reserve sent him telling him that they want him to come visit for an interview. It was everything he had ever dreamed about but he had one problem; the interview was the same day as the Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff match. If he had to pick between dragons and quidditch obviously he would chose dragons. Quidditch was cool and all but dragons were.. well… dragons!!. Even though he was going to the interview he refused to end his quidditch career on a loss.
Plus he was pretty sure that one fourth year and his little brother’s roommate Oliver Wood would actually murder him if he considered it. Some people say he’s obsessed with quidditch, but compared to Oliver even he would seem like a casual fan. He wanted to live long enough to at least be killed by dragons and not some obsessive fourteen year old.
But that was not the point the point was he needed to be at the interview and to do that he somehow has to find someone to play reserve seeker while he was gone. Nobody had tried out for seeker that year or the year previously so he was out of luck there. After a few minutes an idea come to him. Lucky for him he came from a large family which meant that when he was younger and needed someone to play against he could just make one of his brothers do it. Percy for all he acted like he didn’t care about quidditch was surprisingly good and no one would see it coming.
The only problem now was convincing Percy to do it. As he was about to stand up and go search for his brother the portrait opened revealing both Percy and his quidditch obsessed roommate. Perfect. “Percy, could you please come over here?” He called across the common room. He saw Percy say something quietly to Wood before making walking over to him.
“Percy, you know how I’m your favourite brother?” He asked before continuing “ I’m gonna be busy this weekend and I need you, my favourite brother, to play as the reserve seeker in the Hufflepuff match, Please?”.
His brother responded by asking “What gave you the idea that I would even agree to play a quick friendly match, let alone one that the whole school will be watching?”
“Percy please, I just got a letter from the dragon reserve and they need me there this weekend for an interview. You know I can’t turn it down it has been my dream for as long as I can remember and if I forfeit your psycho roommate will probably strangle me in my sleep, not to mention what Professor McGonagall will say if we lose. You know her and Snape bet on who’s going to win?” He pleaded.
“What about what Oliver will do to me if I mess up during game? Did you think about that?” His brother retorted.
“Please you’re my only option, nobody even tried out for seeker this year.” He tried again.
“Maybe no one tried out because Gryffindor already had a seeker.” his brother responded.
“I asked around after tryouts apparently nobody wants to play seeker, apparently it’s too much pressure or something. Which is ridiculous if you ask me.”
“No.” Percy said.
“What do you mean, no.” he asked desperately.
“It means I will not be playing this match or any other.” His brother responded.
Well there was one more thing he could try. “If you don’t play I will tell Oliver that you’re refusing to play. I bet he would be thrilled that we had to forfeit to Hufflepuff all because you refused to play.” He said hopefully that worked.
“You wouldn’t. He would never shut up about it, I would never get a moment of peace he would almost be as bad as the twins.”
“Well then you better play, if you want to avoid all that.” He smirked finally his plan was coming together.
“Fine I will play, but only for this match I don’t care if you break every single bone in your body before the next match I wont be playing.”his brother responded after a moment.
“Thank you, Percy. You wont regret this.” He said as his brother walked he swore he heard his brother mumble something that sounded a lot like ‘I already do’.

As Charlie entered the common room the party was already started and everyone was celebrating the crushing defeat they gave Hufflepuff. When he finally spotted his brother he had his back to him but it looked as though he and Oliver were discussing something as he got closer he was able to hear Percy say “No Oliver I don’t care what you say I will not be playing next year”.
“But Percy Professor McGonagall told me she was exited to see you play next year” Oliver pleaded.
”Even if I was interested next year we have our OWLS, I can’t afford to have any distractions.” Percy responded.
“You say that now but let’s wait and see what you say next year” Oliver said with a dangerous look in his eyes. It seemed Percy had experienced quite a few of Oliver’s attempts to get Percy to join the team as Percy just roolled his eyes and turned away.
As Percy turned around to he spotted Charlie and asked “How did the job interview go? It better have gone well or I played for nothing.” The last part had been mumbled under his breath.
“It went well, how is trying to get Oliver to give up going?” He asked.
“Not very well he is starting to scare me a bit” Percy replied. “Which is no more than usual, I’ve been terrified of him ever since we were a first years.”
“Seriously” his Charlie asked with barely hidden humour. “He once broke into my dorm to talk about quidditch strategy at 3am. He had barely been at the school a week.” He said with a shiver.
“Dragons your going to work with dragons, I know for a fact multiple pro teams offered you a job. But NO you want to work with dragons whats so cool about dragons anyway.” he heard Oliver shout and if by instinct he sprinted up to his dorm and locked the door with every charm he could think of. Hopefully it would be enough to keep the psychotic child out.
Spoiler alert it wasn’t he had never been so scared in his life. He still has nightmares
