“Each man’s death diminishes me, for I am involved in mankind. For whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee.” -John Donne

The phone continued to ring. Glancing at the caller ID, he turned to his parents, silently asking if he could take the call. When they nod the affirmative, he moves to the living room, his chair squeaking across the floor as he pushes it in. He would take it outside, but due to the rain he was forced to take it inside.
A strange silence had fallen upon the already quiet house. Well, silent if not for the pitter of the rain tapping on the window with its long blackened fingers.
The phone rung again.
The fingers begin to scratch. Standing on the rug next to the coffee table, he answered the call.
“Hello?”
.
.
.
.
“ …. ”
.
.
.
.
.
“…That’s not very funny. Shouldn’t you be asleep by now?”
.
.
.
.
“…uh.. Tadashii?”
The line went dead.
The phone started ringing again. This time the caller number was different. Visibly confused, Danny answered the call.
“Cass?”
.
.
.
.
“What about him? I just got off the phone with him.”
.
.
.
“……..”
.
.
.
.
“You’re lying.”
Denial speeps through his tone.
.
.
.
.
.
“I just talked to him. That’s not.. possible.” His voice cracks.
.
.
.
.
He hangs up.
Danny grabs the car keys and opens the front door letting out a shaky breath.
“I..I’ll be back.”
