Chapter Text
(This takes place after the Fishman Island arc in One Piece, and the Shie Hassaikai/Remedial Course Arc in My Hero Academia)
U.A. Training Grounds
It hasn't been long since a few members of Class 1-A managed to save a little girl named Eri from Overhaul, namely Izuku Midoriya. Despite dealing with the many hardships they've dealt with in their strives to become heroes, their dedication and sheer will has made them grow stronger than many heroes may expect average hero course students to reach. Izuku Midoriya especially as he found new methods to utilize the awesome power of One-For-All. Shoto Todoroki and Katsuki Bakugo, while not having provisional hero licenses like the rest of their classmates, did have additional classes to help them catch up and earn their own licenses, having recently completed the next step on that road by helping an unruly class of children.
Right now, Class 1-A was gathered on Ground Beta with their hero suits to practice some of the usual heroics taught by their sensei, the practically always tired Shota Aizawa. He's managed to watch them since their first day of class and see them grow, and even if he wouldn't admit it himself he cared deeply for each of his students and their potential success as heroes. Before they began their training, he began with his beginning lecture of the day.
"Listen well, with your hero licenses, you must come to understand that there are special reasons you are given the title of hero." As he talked, both Bakugo and Todoroki grimaced. "Everyone knows that being a hero means saving people and making them feel safe against villains, but it also means being able to know to do the right thing," Aizawa told them as the students listened intently, though they were also more curious than usual since this seemed a little different compared to what he has usually lectured them.
"So while we fight villains because they commit villainy, and save citizens because they need someone to protect them from villains, having the mind of a hero is important to remember."
Uraraka then raised her hand. "But sensei, wouldn't that mean if to say, a hero was told to do a bad thing, then going against them no matter their importance is what we should do? Even if it's illegal?" she asked with a slight head tilt.
The rest of them were thinking the same thing. Not that they truly believed their government or even fellow heroes would want them to do something bad, but some were also aware of some of the dark truths when it comes to being a hero.
"That I'll leave up to you depending on the situation. I would personally advise trying to sort any situation with diligence and tact, and of course as legal as you can," He explained to Uraraka whose was still trying to ponder that.
Most of them have dealt with the pressure of trying to figure out what the right thing to do in a situation is. Students Izuku Midoriya, Shoto Todoroki, and Tenya Iida especially remembered their encounter with the Hero Killer when they were forced to lie about their involvement with that fight since them fighting him was technically an illegal act, even if they felt like they had no choice.
And most of the students as well would lie when they feel that some laws could prevent them from doing things they find heroic, and they wouldn't think about possibly breaking them if it was absolutely necessary. Like if they felt they could help on a potential mission but weren't allowed to go, so going anyways would be disobeying a superior's order.
"But at the end of the day, you must ask yourself what kind of hero are you going to be-" Aizawa was speaking right he was interrupted by a large screeching sound.
Everyone began covering their ears as they cringed hard.
"Ahhhh what's that coming from!?" Kirishima exclaimed hardening himself a bit.
"Whoever is doing it can you please stop!?" Jiro yelled due to her unique hearing.
"Heheheheheh!"
Everyone looked in the direction of the cliché evil laughter as Aizawa and some of the more resilient students got into a battle stance.
Not far from them at the edge of an open tall glass window a few floors up, they saw a skinny man with a white suit and rather large cape waving behind him and his face covered with a demon mask.
"Who are you and how did you get here…" Aizawa spoke with an intimidating tone and a red glow in his eyes.
"Oh, I'm not someone you should really worry about, as I mean to not give you or your students any harm!"
No one was buying what this wacko was saying, and having been taught about what to do in incidents like this, they weren't as afraid as they had been when they were at the USJ. Though some would have a hard time denying that this guy was making them uncomfortable.
"Pfft, well your earlier screech tells me you mean the complete opposite you dumbass villain!" Bakugo retorted.
"If you really don't mean harm, then what's with that scary mask?" Mina asked curiously though still apprehensive.
"Oh, this? This is just to give my audience a mystery as to what character lurks behind my tricks! Would you like to see one?" The villain spoke as he looked ready to jump down but not before Aizawa launched his scarf at his legs, tying around them.
"I have no idea what your planning, but I'm going to have you stay right there for a while-"
"Oh how rough of you! And here I was going to praise you for that small speech you gave to your students earlier. How rude!" the villain said as his cape wrapped around him. An instant later, he disappeared, leaving the large cape flowing in the air before it vanished as well and bewildering class who looked around with extra caution.
"W-Where did this guy go? How did he do that!?" a frightened Kaminari asked.
"We don't know yet, I can't tell what kind of quirk he has but it's a strange one definitely, not like one I've seen before," Deku analyzed as his classmates nodded in agreement.
"I don't care what he has! I'm going to be the one to take him down!" Bakugo proudly exclaimed.
Iida responded with a series of robot arms. "Bakugo! You mustn't underestimate your opponent if they got a quirk you can't properly figure out!"
"He's right," Todoroki responded. "If we want to beat this guy, then some of us should take a defense back to analyze our opponent while some of our better fighters take the offense-"
"Sounds perfect! Only one flaw though," The masked man suddenly said as he appeared in front of the group catching them by surprise.
"I don't want to just suck up your best fighters, I prefer a mix and match!"
Then he spread out his large cape as his clothes oddly folded upwards to his mask as if he had no physical body inside them, and the cape grew large enough to form a blue portal that began trying to suck the students in.
Some students like Todoroki tried to use their quirks to keep them from getting sucked in, others like Sero trying to use their quirks to keep others from going on, while some like Kaminari were simply trying to run away as fast as they could.
"G-Guys! What's happening?"
"I'm slipping!"
"Goddamnit this guy is annoying!"
"Hey, I got you man!"
The students did their best to try and escape the quickly forming vortex attempting to pull them with even Aizawa having trouble trying to keep some of them from flying in with his scarf.
"Everyone remain calm! I just messaged the faculty about what's happening, they should be here any minute-" But Aizawa was cut off as he suddenly heard some of the class scream as the force of the portal suddenly became too strong for the ones closest to it.
The rest of the class tried to rush to grab them before they went in, but they could only helplessly watch as the portal sucked them in before suddenly shutting off. The man's clothes and cape just waved in the air without the man in sight, while everyone that was still there remained shocked at what just happened.
"GUYS!"

The New World
With their fight with Hody Jones done with, the Strawhats managed to surface on the New World of the Grand Line, immediately greeted with more than harsh weather conditions. After bidding the whales they sailed with goodbye, they continued to struggle in the large waves as the thunderous skies made it clear that it wasn't letting up soon.
Nami of course as the navigator of the Strawhats, was at the railing trying to analyze what moves they should make, while the rest of the Strawhats were trying do what they could to prevent the ship from capsizing or losing anything that was on their ship, with a few others just holding on for dear life.
"Nami! When is this going to stop!?" The sniper Usopp exclaimed with fear as he grabbed the railing as tight as he could.
The orange-haired navigator had studied the weather of the New World during her 2 years of being apart from the crew, but being in it with her crew still proved to be a challenge. "It's hard to tell! This is just regular weather to come across in the New World!"
This upset Usopp even further along with even Chopper and Brook too.
"Ahhhh we're going to die!"
"Hey calm down guys!" Franky said while then striking a pose at the wheel. "As long as we got our super navigator, we should be super fine!"
The monster trio during this chaos were trying their best to maintain the sails and fight the beating winds as they tried to follow Nami's orders.
"Arrrgh damnit! Won't this stupid storm just quit already!?" Luffy retorted in anger.
"I feel the same, I meant to make a celebratory meal for officially getting into the New World, but I can't do it right now!" Sanji also responded.
Chopper looked in confusion. "But Sanji, I've seen you cook meals in bad storms before, why not now?"
"Well, you see Chopper, with winds rocking the Sunny this much, Nami and Robin won't be able to properly enjoy the wonderful smoothies I planned for them!" Sanji cried out.
"That's why!?" Half the crew said in unison, wishing they were able to have a meal despite that reason.
"Of course swirly brow would say something like…that?" Zoro said as he noticed something in the waves. "Hey guys, I think I see something in the water."
Sanji scoffed in response. "Oh, the shitty swordsman finally sees something with his one eye? I must have already died here."
While Zoro starred daggers at the cook, everyone looked where Zoro was looking and saw a rather large but loose-looking raft floating on the sea waves with what appeared to be a group of kids.
"No Zoro's right! I see something too! Looks like a group of kids on a raft and they're not moving!" Brook said as he looked closely and Usopp began using his goggles to get a closer look, as well as Nami with her telescope.
On the raft, they could see what seemed to be a kid with curly green hair, a blonde with spiky hair and large grenades on his hands, a red-haired boy with also spiky hair and gears on his shoulders, a kid with half white and red hair, a kid with just a black bird face and a cloak, a yellow-haired kid with a black bolt on his bangs, a brunette with short hair and a black and pink full body suit, a pink haired girl with a cyan and purple suit, and a purple-haired girl in a loose jacket.
Nami especially grew concerned due to her deep care for the well-being of the kids as she saw them all laying down unconscious.
"Yeah I see them! 6 boys and 3 girls it looks like. Though it seems like their raft may not stay up for too long!" Nami said with some panic in her voice.
"Alright then! Let's bring them on board!" Luffy exclaimed as he readied to stretch his arm out to it.
"Hold on Luffy, what if they're just pirates who are faking it and plan to ambush us? Their appearance tells me they're more than likely not normal," Usopp asked in a scared voice. "Plus, we got enough problems to deal with now as you can see!"
Robin who was observing the situation walked down and got a closer look at the kids. "Well from the looks of it, it doesn't seem like they're faking it, unless they're professional actors planning to attack and disembowel us," she pondered, which didn't calm Usopp's nerves.
"Did you really need to add that last part!?"
"Who cares whether they're faking or not! They aren't surviving in this weather by just laying down!" Nami shouted through the winds that began to move the raft a little more further away.
"She's right," Zoro added on. "Plus if they are faking it and try to rob or kill us, we can always kick their asses, even if they are kids."
Luffy gave his famous wide smile. "Okay then! I'm bringing them in!".
Right before it looked like a wave was going to crash onto the kids, Luffy stretched his arm towards the raft with just enough to wrap around all the students, and pulled them back towards the ship just as the crew watched the raft get hit by the wave and never resurface. And of course, as Luffy pulled them back they came in with a crash landing on the center of the shipm, which obviously annoyed the rest of the Strawhats.
"LUFFY!"
Chopper ran towards them with great worry to check their health. "Dang it Luffy! If the sea won't kill them, then don't try to do it instead!"
"Hahahaha, sorry!" Luffy could only respond with.
"Well Luffy's antics aside, how are they looking Chopper?" Nami asked.
Chopper tried to check on them but the weather was making it extremely difficult. "Argh I might need to take them inside to my room to check on them more thoroughly, can you help me Franky?"
"Sure thing lil bro, should be simple enough! Can you take the wheel for a moment Brook?" Franky said as he jogged over and, using his big arms, scooped up most of the students, while Chopper went into heavy point to pick up some himself.
The rest of the Strawhats kept fighting the weather as the unconscious students were getting checkups from Chopper, while yet they wondered about these mysterious kids.
"I wonder who they are, their clothing didn't look like average ones you'd see somewhere, even for pirates or marines that you may see in the New World." Robin pondered.
"Well, maybe it's just a new fashion in the New World we didn't know about?" Usopp responded.
"Well, all I know is that it makes them really unique looking! Makes me even more ecstatic for what the New World has to offer, hahahaha!" an excited Luffy exclaimed as the others just sweat dropped at his usual thoughts.
And he especially meant that with these new people, since once he saw them his interest already spiked from how cool they looked in appearance in general. He managed to sense strong wills from them even if they were unconscious, but most especially with that one green-haired kid. His observation haki felt much different when he was feeling his aura compared to others. And in Luffy's logic, if something is different, he must explore it more!
"Well, let's wait for them to wake up and for this storm to calm down, then we can interview them," Sanji replied, to which the others agreed.
A few hours later
Yelling and screaming was the last thing Deku heard as he slipped into the portal while trying his best to save his friends from going in themselves. He internally cringed at the thought of possibly losing friends again after having to witness his childhood friend Bakugo go into the portal at the training camp. How can he become a hero if he wasn't strong enough to save them!? He didn't know what that portal did once he entered, he just was thinking what he could have done to prevent it in the first place. Maybe he…well…well right now his thoughts began to disappear as consciousness began coming back with a bit of rockiness.
The first thing he saw was him laying down in a bed with a few others laying in it too. As his vision began became clearer, he noticed his best friend Uraraka and longtime friend (in his eyes) Bakugo lying next to him. If he wasn't trying to still understand where he was, he'd probably be profusely blushing and stammering at the situation.
He began to sit up and as he rubbed the back of his head saw a number of his other classmates on the floor with their hero costumes still on, and blankets over them. He looked to his right and heard humming coming from the swivel chair but saw no head or legs coming from the side or bottom, only…antlers on the sides?
"Uh…w-who are you?" Deku wearily replied. The chair turned around, and much to his still confusion he saw what seemed to be a small reindeer in a doctor's outfit who suddenly began beaming.
"Ahhhh you're awake! I'm so glad, you had barely any injuries yet I couldn't tell when you might wake up!" the reindeer happily spoke as he hopped off and jumped onto the bed next to Deku. "Please wait here! I'll go tell the others one of you woke up!"
"Wait, hold on- ah he's gone…" Deku said as the small reindeer got up and ran through the door. He'd wanted to ask questions like who he was, where were they, and what had just happened.
He didn't want to assume he was possibly captured by some villains just from that little interaction. Not to mention they weren't tied up or anything, but he still decided he should try and wake everyone else up just in case.
"Hey, Uraraka, wake up!" He said as he shook the brunette, who also slowly began to wake up.
"Ughhh my head…huh…Deku?" she said quietly as her vision grew clearer.
"Yeah it's me, can you help me wake up the others?" Deku responded.
"Uhh I guess so, but where are we?" She said getting up and seeing everyone else (not Bakugo yet) all still down.
"That I'm still trying to find out... Oh wait I got a possible idea!" Deku exclaimed as he went next to Bakugo's sleeping body.
"Wait what are you… wait what's Bakugo doing next to me!?" She yelled a bit before clasping her mouth.
Deku didn't answer as he looked intently at Bakugo as if he was looking at a bomb, before deciding to shake him a bit. That didn't work, so he decided to take a risk to wake him up, even if it meant possible death.
"... Hey Kacchan, I'm going to become the World's Greatest Hero-"
"WHAT THE HELL DID YOU JUST SAY DEKU!? I'LL KILL YOU!" Bakugo suddenly yelled getting up with a bit of crackle in his hands, which not only startled Deku and Uraraka but suddenly woke everyone else up.
"AHHHH WHAT'S GOING ON?"
"WHERE ARE WE?"
"DON'T GO INTO THE LIGHT!"
Bakugo then grabbed Deku's suit collar with anger in his eyes.
"TAKE THAT BACK OR….ELSE…. wait… what's going on?" Bakugo asked as he slowly let go of Deku.
Then they suddenly heard running and the door slamming open, revealing a blonde man in a suit with strange…swirly eyebrows.
"… I just heard the scream of a lady earlier, which bastard did something to her!?" he asked as he looked around and had his 'save possible lady in danger' senses go down a bit as he looked at the group of kids staring at him.
"... Who the hell are you, extra?" Bakugo asked.
"H-hey Kacchan, what have we said about calling people that?" Deku said waving his hands with a sweat drop.
"Shut it Deku!" He yelled in response which made Deku flinch.
"Take it easy man! Plus this guy came here 'cause he heard distress, so he must be too manly to be an extra right?" Kirishima said to the still-steaming Bakugo.
"Would you guys keep the yelling down? My head hasn't hurt this much in a long time," a very irritated Jiro said rubbing her head.
"Like, seriously, and I hope that portal didn't ruin my makeup or anything, I was extra prepared today!" Mina whined a bit.
"I'm sure there are bigger problems than your makeup Ashido," Tokoyami said with some sense.
"I agree, like maybe who this guy is?" Kaminari asked simply.
"Or better yet, where we ended up and where everyone else is," Todoroki said looking around.
The chef just looked with a bewildered expression.
"Uhhh… maybe you kids should come with me to the kitchen, I could whip you guys up with some drinks as you collect yourselves, I'll even make some soup too," He said once it seemed like they were done talking. "Then maybe you could explain to us where you guys came from, sound good?"
Then he left with the door open. The students continued staring, with some apprehensive to follow in case it might be a trap. Bakugo was the first to get up and begin to follow which way it seems he was going.
"Wait Bakugo! Shouldn't we be careful of where we are man?" Kaminari said with a hand up to Bakugo.
"Well I don't see any other point to sitting on our asses as we don't get questions answered, and I'm sure if they are villains I could kick their asses," he replied confidently as he walked out.
"W-wait for me man!" Said Kaminari and Kirishima at the same time.
"Ugh, at least let me get this guy's name, he's kind of cute," Mina said with a sweat drop from the others.
"I still want to know where we are," Todoroki stated.
As the others began to follow as well, Deku and Uraraka stood in the doctor's office as Uraraka looked at Deku who was looking down on the floor. He couldn't get the image of that swirling vortex out of his mind that had dragged him and his classmates to…well, he didn't know where. Away somewhere. A villain had gotten the best of them all and it seemed he easily could have killed them but instead brought them here for some reason. Why?
Deku had thought he'd gotten stronger, more capable of using the Quirk bestowed onto him by his idol All Might. But he'd been completely helpless against this new villain, unable to react when his classmates were in danger and save any of them. How could he be the new Symbol of Peace like that?
"Hey Deku, you okay?" Uraraka asked innocently, jolting him from his thoughts.
"O-Oh! Y-yeah I'm okay, let's just follow everyone else," Deku said, pushing his thoughts away for the time being and walking out the room, an admittedly worried Uraraka following.
The students then found themselves sitting with their hero clothes still on at a table, and the blonde man they saw earlier in the kitchen cooking up some soup after serving them some glasses of water for the moment.
While they felt like they weren't in exact danger right now since the blonde chef wasn't showing any hostility, they did get the feeling they weren't alone as they looked around in awkward silence.
"Okay, the soups ready, hope you all like chicken and rice soup, it's good for headaches," he said carrying 9 bowls of soup on his arms and setting them down at each of their places, which some of the students were internally impressed by. Though a few raised their eyebrows at him giving the soups to the girls first.
The kids looked at the soup as they grabbed spoons and, though apprehensively at first, dipped it into the soup and with one slurp they felt like they were really now in heaven.
"Hey, this isn't bad at all!" Kaminari said as he went in for some more spoonfuls.
"Yeah! It's really yummy!" Uraraka said with a smile forming.
"I agree! I don't know if I've had chicken and rice soup like this before!" Deku added.
"Reminds me a lot of my older sister's cooking," Todoroki commented.
"This is good! Thanks whoever you are man!" Kirishima said to a smiling cook.
Even Bakugo internally, as a food and cooking enthusiast on the side had to agree that the soup wasn't bad at all.
The chef walked back to his kitchen as he began to stir the soup pot a little more. "No problem, just be sure to finish your bowls before you come for seconds. Also, the name is Sanji."
"Well we thank you for saving us Sanji, and for keeping us tidy in that room we were in earlier too," Tokoyami said as he enjoyed his soup.
Deku slurped the soup in his spoon quickly in order to respond to that as he still remembered the small reindeer he saw earlier. "Well actually, while I'm not 100% certain yet, I think that was someone else cause I remember seeing this reindeer earlier in the chair hop up to me and then run off."
"A reindeer? So like a heteromorph with a reindeer quirk?" Jiro asked.
"Reindeer quirk?"
"Oh, well, you must be talking about our doctor Chopper," Sanji replied as he gave a second serving to Mina.
"Chopper? That's a cute name! Where is he?" Mina asked.
"Well since you guys are feeling better, I guess I can introduce you guys to the crew," Sanji said as he walked over to the door much to the curiosity of the others at the mention of 'crew.'
"Hey guys, I think they're feeling better, we can talk to them now!"
Then right after he said that the door burst open as in a blur they saw a straw hat-wearing boy jump up onto the table, making a few of them shriek in surprise.
"WOHOO! Finally! I get to talk to these guys!" he yelled.
An orange-haired girl with a really great figure came in shaking her head, though some of the boys blushed at her wearing no shirt. "Hey calm down Luffy! You don't want to scare them do you?"
Then a long-nosed man came in also shaking his head. "Well it's not like he would give any other reaction, you should know him by now,"
A skeleton with an afro then entered, taking quite a few of them by surprise with some wondering if they were seeing things and others wondering what kind of Quirk this was. "Yohohohoho! But that's why I find him pretty rocking!" the skeleton laughed.
Followed by a smirking green-haired man with 3 swords at his waist responded. "We all decided to follow him for a reason, might as well accept it."
Then a raven-haired woman came in laughing a bit. "Hahaha, isn't that right?"
And now a large-looking guy with robotic arms and metallic legs walked in. "Yeah! He's always gotta make a super entrance!"
Then finally a gleeful small reindeer finally walked in last. "Well, we all know what Luffy is like, but what I'm really interested in is who these guys are!"
The students looked at all the new people who entered the room, some with sparkles of interest in their eyes like at the giant cyborg, and some looking at the weird group of people that have just appeared in front of them. Especially since some of them had appearances they had never seen before.
"Um…why is there a talking skeleton?" Jiro asked.
"Oh good, you see it too," Kaminari said with some relief.
"Oh yeah, he can take some getting used to," Nami said. "This is Brook. And yes, he is an actual skeleton."
"Ok, but…how?" Mina asked curiously, the other students' eyes all wide.
"It's quite simple really," the skeleton said. "My particular powers allowed me a second chance at life after my death, with some…side effects, as you can see. Now I'm just skin and bone, without the skin. Yohohohoho!"
"Then why did you say…never mind," Usopp sighed.
"Whoa! That is such a unique and amazing power!" Deku gushed, his notebook instantly appearing in his hands which startled quite a few of them. "A Quirk that can bring you back to life? I've never heard of it before."
"Quirk?" the Straw hats thought curiously.
"Yes, it is rather unique," the skeleton, Brook, replied.
"Pretty dope," Jiro agreed. "Though the whole bone thing is kind of a downside."
"That's more my fault," Brook explained. "Unfortunately, my soul got lost when it was revived and wasn't able to find my body until it had decomposed. Still, I came back to life as you can see, just…differently."
"That's one way to put it," Mina said dryly.
"Truly fascinating, to have beaten back the darkness of death in such a way," Tokoyami said.
"So your Quirk allowed you to come back to life even as a skeleton? Can you still feel things even without nerves? What about eating and drinking?" Deku questioned eagerly. "Can you-"
Bonk!
"Can it, Deku, question the skeleton on your own damn time," Bakugo growled, not having the patience for the nerd's mutterings. He'd also been curious about the skeleton but now with that question answered, even if it did lead to more questions, he wanted to move on to the main point. "We have bigger things to discuss. Like where in the hell that freaking villain sent me and where he is now so I can murder him!"
"And also, who are you guys?" Uraraka asked.
"Wait, you don't know who we are?" asked Usopp in surprise. "I mean, I get Brook, his poster isn't technically part of the crew's-"
"That is so rude!" Brook chimed in.
"But surely you recognize Luffy here," Usopp continued, gesturing to the straw hat boy who grinned at them all. They just stared back, most with confused and slightly apologetic expressions.
"Sorry, no."
"Well, we haven't been in action for 2 years, it would make sense some may not know who we are Usopp," Nami responded.
"Well they don't look like they're 2 years old, but you also can't expect everyone in the New World to know our names just yet," Zoro added on.
"New World?"
Bakugo glared at them all, his patience having run out. "Okay, what's this New World you just mentioned, and why should we know who you extras even are?"
The Strawhats looked at him in confusion, both at his attitude and him not knowing the New World despite being in it when they first arrived.
"Well, it's the second half of the Grandline, the sea between the West and North Blue seas, odd that you wouldn't know where you are," Robin responded which just made things even more confusing.
"What the hell do you mean? Get out of my way!" Bakugo retorted as he got up and walked through the Strawhats and out the door before stopping in his tracks right as he stepped out.
"WHAT!?"
The other students got up and ran to where Bakugo was, who was staring at the railing looking out with a shocked face, and when all of them got a clear image of their surroundings they also stared in shock.
All they saw was them seemingly on a ship, that was currently floating in the water with no land that could be seen for miles and miles. Seagulls in the air were cawing, and the only sound was the waves splashing against the sides of the ship, and the clouds were also pretty dark but there wasn't any rain. They took their hands off the railing and all proceeded to jump on the ground at the center and each go to different sides of the ship to look further around.
"How did we get here? What's happening!?" Uraraka said with some panic.
"We were just at Ground Beta, how did we end up in the middle of the sea?" Deku said trying to relax a bit himself.
"Oh man oh man please don't tell me we died and are in purgatory," Kaminari was as he was holding his head and shaking it. "Should have known when I saw the skeleton."
"Maybe if you don't think it then it won't be true you idiot!" yelled a more than anxious Jiro.
"Though Kaminari may be onto something…" Tokoyami said darkly, not helping anyones nerves.
The Strawhats all came out of the dining room too and jumped to the center which caught their attention.
"Well, we were wondering how you kids got here since we found you all floating on a raft unconscious in the sea, you saying you were in some Ground Beta?" Nami asked.
"Well, yeah, the last thing we remember was we were about to train when this mysterious villain showed up, and before we knew it, his cape turned into this portal-looking thing and we all got sucked in," Todoroki explained.
Just hearing about that again made the kids shiver, remembering seeing each other's terrified faces, and the faces of their classmates that didn't get sucked in.
"So where did he send us?" Mina said, looking out at the horizon at any sort of clue. "And why to an ocean?"
"Maybe he was just trying to drown us," Tokoyami suggested. "Out here, there is very little chance of any bodies being discovered."
"That's a little dark man," Kaminari said nervously.
"Bastard wanted to drown me?" Bakugo growled furiously, rage spiking. "I drown him…in his own blood!"
"That's even darker, man!"
"Was that his goal though? Seems kind of strange," Deku commented, mostly to himself as he tried to piece together what he'd noted of the villain. "He said he wanted a mix and match of fighters before he got us so why do that just to drop us in the ocean?"
"Aw man, I'm not getting any cell service here!" Mina complained, looking at her phone and causing the others to do the same. As they did, a few of the Straw hats eyes widened in surprise, Usopp and Franky especially leaning forward with interest.
"Which sea do you think we landed in?" Uraraka asked, trying to check her maps but seeing only a blank page. "The Sea of Japan or the Pacific Ocean? Or maybe the East China Sea?"
"You said we're in the New World, right?" Jiro said, turning to Robin.
"Yes, that's correct," Robin replied.
"Do you know where that is? Like, is it close to Japan or something?"
Robin didn't answer for a second, tapping her chin in thought. Ever since she first laid eyes on these young children, she'd known there was something different about them, especially with the way they were dressed. Unbeknownst to them, she'd left an ear in their quarters so that she could listen in when they woke up and learn more. And while she didn't learn much, she did hear certain words and phrases like 'quirk,' 'hero,' and 'villain' that seemed to be key parts of their vocabulary.
Their surprise at being surrounded by water had told her that the distance they'd traveled to where the crew had found them was farther than originally believed. Now, a new idea was coming to her based on everything she was seeing and hearing, one that was both mind-blowing and truly fascinating if true.
"Tell me something first," she replied. "Does the term 'Grand Line' mean anything to you?"
"Um, no," Jiro said with some confusion. "Should it?"
"Huh?" a few of the straw hats gasped. "How can-"
Robin's hand came up to interrupt them. "If not that, then how about these: East Blue, North Blue, South Blue, or West Blue. They're the different seas."
"Really?" Mina said, frowning. "I've never heard of them before."
"Me either," Deku said, trying to recall where those seas might be.
"Man I wish Iida or Yaoyorozu were here, they'd know," Kaminari complained.
"Wait, how can you not know those names?" Usopp questioned.
"Yeah, they're the only seas around," Nami added curiously.
"What are you talking about?" Uraraka replied warily. The students were getting more and more confused by all of this, especially given how confused these people were becoming towards them.
"How bizarre…" Robin murmured to herself before looking up. "I might have an idea of what this could be, but first, mind if I ask where you think you are?" Robin asked.
All the students looked at them with confused and slightly scared expressions.
"Uh, somewhere in the middle of an ocean? My guess being the Pacific Ocean since that's where Japan is," Mina said like it was obvious.
The Strawhats just raised some eyebrows. "Japan? Pacific Ocean? Sorry dudes, we don't know what you're talking about," Franky said sincerely.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Bakugo demanded, the others becoming even more confused. "How can you not know those names?"
"Yeah, seriously, what's going on here?" Kirishima chimed in
Robin thought for a moment in response to that, her theory becoming more and more likely despite its outlandish stance. "Then… I heard you mention something about thinking Chopper has a reindeer quirk. Do you mind explaining what a quirk is? Could it be a devil fruit?"
That had the students agape like they heard something from someone living under a rock.
"Y-you can't be serious! Who doesn't know what a quirk is!?" Deku exclaimed.
"Yeah! How can you not know something so common knowledge!?" Kirishima added.
"Did we really die and are in purgatory?" Tokoyami began to shiver a bit thinking about it.
"And what's this devil fruit you just mentioned?" Todoroki asked.
While most of the Strawhats looked at them with confusion, Robin just nodded. "Okay, then that's just confirming my theory even more."
"What is it, Robin?" Sanji asked.
"Well, if these kids aren't lying with what they're saying, regarding locations they know, these quirks, and the matter with the last thing they remember being a portal… they might not be from here."
"Well we already figured that out," Nami said. "But they must be from some island really far away or really isolated to not-"
"I mean they're not from this world," Robin said.
It was almost like a soundless bomb had gone off on deck as utter silence reigned, both Straw hats and students alike staring agape at her, not believing what was just said.
"Wait… So are they aliens!?" Luffy said with stars in his eyes only to get smacked by Nami.
"No idiot! Well, I mean… We don't know exactly yet…but…what do you mean Robin? Are they-"
"ALIENS!" Usopp and Chopper cried, quickly ducking behind Zoro and Sanji.
"Wait, we're not aliens!" Deku cried.
"Yeah, this is just a really weird misunderstanding," Kirishima added, his mind all fuzzy after hearing what the woman had said.
"We should have known! I mean, look at that girl with the pink skin and the bug antennae! She's probably their queen!" Usopp cried out pointing to Mina.
"What!?" Mina cried, outraged and also thinking back to Midnight's comments on her first hero name and realizing she'd been right.
"And then there's the guy with the bird head!" Usopp continued, making Tokoyami frown at him. "And that girl with those freaky earlobes! They're gonna kill us all! Get them Zoro!"
"Get them yourself, and stop hiding behind me!"
"Don't make fun of my ears!" Jiro cried.
"How dare you insult pretty girls!" Sanji roared as he charged Usopp. "I'm gonna make you pay for that!"
"Gah! Get them, not me!"
"I must say, this is a surprise," Brook said calmly as Sanji chased Usopp behind him. "If I had eyes, I assure you, they'd be popping out."
"This is so cool!" Luffy whooped.
For the past few minutes, the students had mainly been staring at the straw hats, wondering who these people were to make such an insinuation with ones like Bakugo and Todoroki looking for ways to make an escape or fight back.
"Ok, you can't actually be serious about this whole alien thing though," Uraraka said nervously. "We're not from outer space. We're humans, I promise. Mina, Jiro, and Tokoyami are just heteromorphs."
"Why would you think we're aliens from outer space?" Kirishima asked.
"I…I don't think they did," Deku said. Once they'd gotten talking, his mind had started to over analyze everything as it usually did and he was now reaching the same impossible conclusion that Robin had.
"Yeah, sorry about that," Nami said after smacking both Usopp and Sanji. "I don't think Robin meant they're from outer space but possibly from another world or universe."
"Yes, that is what I meant," Robin affirmed.
The students just stared dumbfounded for a few moments as they processed that.
…
…
…
"WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!?"
"Thinking of other possible outcomes can't exactly explain what's going on, so I sadly think that's the case," Robin finished, which led both sides to look at each other with some shock.
"So cool! So they're from another universe? That's even better than aliens!" Luffy said with excitement.
"But how is that possible!? I know we just entered the New World but I couldn't imagine we'd come across something this crazy already!" Brook shouted.
"Well if it's true, then I think I'm already going to enjoy myself greatly here…" Zoro said with a bit of sinister in his voice.
The students all looked at them and at each other, not wanting to believe what was happening, wishing they were in a dream.
"What do you mean we're in another universe! That's some real bullshit and you know it!" Bakugo cried out.
"Yeah, do you honestly expect us to buy that?" Jiro added crossing her arms.
"Whether you accept it or not is up to you, but it seems to be the most likely conclusion based on the information available," Robin informed them, unperturbed by their accusations.
"I bet you're working for that damn freaky-ass villain and trying to trick us!" Bakugo cried.
"Yeah, exactly!" Kaminari chimed in as well, trembling slightly in fear.
"But why come up with something like this?" Todoroki asked curiously. "It's so far-fetched that none of us would believe it."
"Who knows why madmen do what they do?" Kirishima shrugged.
"Hey, stop with the insults already," Sanji said, annoyed. "We could have easily left you floating on that raft in the storm but we rescued you, so show some gratitude, would you?"
"Well maybe if you stop lying to us and actually tell us where we are, we will," Mina retorted.
"Oh, I'll tell you anything you want to know, as long as you keep looking at me with those beautiful eyes!" Sanji gushed, taking Mina by surprise.
Meanwhile, Deku hadn't said a word, going over what Robin had said. It was impossible, inconceivable, that they had been transported to another world. But…why lie to them? Like Todoroki said, they would obviously not believe it. And why had that villain sent them here?
"Do you have proof?" Deku found himself asking, drawing everyone's attention. "You know you can't expect us to believe you without proof."
"Yeah!" Uraraka nodded in agreement. "Prove we're in another world if you're so sure."
"Why should we do-" Zoro started before Nami smacking him on the head.
"I'll get some maps, that should help," she said, heading back into the main cabin. As she did, the students and Straw hats eyed each other warily, each ready for the other to make some sort of threatening move.
"So, what's your world like?" Luffy asked, still grinning happily and oblivious to the tension around him.
None of the students answered him, some eyeing him oddly while others just ignored him until Nami came back, carrying several rolled up maps in her arms. She quickly laid them across the deck for the students.
"There, take a look for yourselves," she gestured. "Just don't mess them up, they're really important to me."
The students carefully unfurled the maps, their eyes widening as they took in the drawings. One was a large one of the apparent Grand Line with multiple islands dotting the sea like Little Garden, Alabasta, Jaya, Water 7, Sabaody. Then there were others that showed those islands in more detail while others showed other seas that Robin had named, the one of the East Blue being the most detailed.
"This…this is impossible," Kirishima murmured.
"This can't be real!" Mina muttered hoarsely.
"This has to be fake, right?" Kaminari wailed.
"Of course it's fake!" Bakugo yelled. "They just made them up for their own amusement, to trick us!"
"Really?" Nami replied with a raised eyebrow while Franky and Brook held back an enraged Sanji. "I spent hours upon hours drawing up all these maps just to prove to some people I've never met that they're in another world?"
"That does seem strange," Todoroki agreed.
"Can it Icy Hot! How can those be authentic? They look hand-drawn!"
"Of course they're hand-drawn, idiot! I drew them!"
As everyone continued to argue, a few of the students being more convinced by the maps while others weren't, Deku continued to analyze the maps carefully, not spying a single familiar location. He knew there was a chance these were still fake. After all, with the number of Quirks out there, there was likely one that could do this. But that wasn't what was convincing him. It was that these people didn't know what Quirks were. Maybe they were an isolated sailing crew and used a different term but he didn't think so.
There was only one other thing he could think of to make sure.
"Do you keep up with the news here?" he asked suddenly, making most conversations quiet down.
"Huh?" Nami asked, surprised by the question. "Of course we do. I have a subscription to the World Economy Newspaper that tells us everything going on in the world."
Deku didn't recognize the paper but that didn't matter. If they kept up with the news and flow of information, then that meant they weren't isolated. He pulled out his phone and opened up his gallery, selecting a specific photo.
"Can you tell me who this is?" he asked, holding the picture up. But he didn't show it to Robin or Nami but rather to the small reindeer who had looked scared as he approached. The small reindeer eyed him warily but looked at the photo for a few seconds before shaking his head in confusion at the picture of All Might.
"I'm sorry, I don't know," he replied.
And that's when Deku knew they were telling the truth. He'd always been good at analyzing the things he saw and that skill just became stronger when he started his hero training. He'd been able to read people's expressions more, spot their tells in their movements, and so on. He asked the reindeer, Chopper, to look at the photo as he was able to read him easiest out of the crew and he'd been watching carefully when Chopper had replied, not seeing any hint of deceit or falsehood. He was completely sincere when he said he didn't recognize the most recognizable figure in the world.
He showed the rest of the crew too but they all shared the same looks of confusion, not bothering to hide anything in their expressions as there was nothing to hide. They truly didn't know.
To be sure, Deku asked to see a newspaper and Nami brought a whole stack for them to look through, but at that point for him it was just confirmation of what he already knew. They were in another world.
It took some time for them all to come to terms with it. Bakugo, surprisingly, came to the conclusion next, the All Might picture having done it for him. Slowly, one by one, all the other students realized the truth.
"We're in another world?" Uraraka gasped, sounding like she might start hyperventilating.
"This…this can't be real," Kirishima murmured.
"Lost beyond everything we know," Tokoyami muttered in despair.
"Wait, so if this is true…and putting aside that this proves so many scientific theories and discoveries… Then how are we going to get back?" Deku said with fear. If he was trapped in another world, how could he continue his dream? He was supposed to be the next symbol of peace, the world's greatest hero. That wasn't possible in another universe!
"What about everyone else!? Are we not going to see them again?" Kirishima said with fear.
"We don't even know what happened to them!" Mina wailed, choosing to focus on her friends instead of panicking over the fact she was in another world.
"That shitty portal-making villain! Is he with you guys?" Bakugo yelled while getting into a battle stance. "Or maybe he's one of you guys? Which is it?"
Zoro, noticing this, put his hands on his swords. "Hey, better watch your anger issues kid. I'm getting real sick of your yelling."
"Zoro! Don't frighten them further!" Chopper chastised while still trying to refrain from further shocking himself after learning that he really was meeting people from another universe.
"Hey Hey! Let's all just calm down and talk!" Usopp yelled, which he admittedly didn't do too much at first. "Look we don't have anyone here with portal abilities, okay? As we said, we found you guys on a raft floating in the sea, so let's all just go back inside and talk about this, alright?"
"He's right Bakugo, let's just try and remain calm for now so that we can get this sorted out without anyone getting hurt for no reason," Todoroki told Bakugo, which surprisingly made him calm down a bit.
Not really having much of a choice, the students just looked at each other with worried expressions before silently nodding. As the Strawhats all went back in, the students followed suit with rightfully nervous feelings all over.
After sitting down, they sat in silence for a bit, which the Strawhats found understandable since if what Robin said was true then they were far from their home. They were separated for 2 years after their encounter with Kuma at Sabaody so they get that feeling, but it must be harder for these kids now.
Each of the students were lost in their own thoughts. Some, like Uraraka, thought about their families back home while others like Mina thought of their friends. Kaminari wondered about their chances of survival in another world while Todoroki tried to think of a way back home. Deku and Bakugo both thought of their own personal goals as heroes, wondering how they could make those dreams come true trapped here.
Meanwhile, the Straw hats watched them with some sympathy for their situation despite their eagerness to learn of this world. Even Luffy had decided to stay quiet on this, now sensing the tension. He actually understood it in a way, imagining landing in a new world and unable to continue his adventure. Beside him, Zoro eyed the strangers warily, not eager to trust them yet, especially not the loud-mouthed blonde.
"So what do we do now?" Kirishima said, tears threatening to come out. "How do we get back home?"
"You wouldn't happen to be able to help, would you?" Uraraka asked the Straw hats hopefully.
"I'm sorry, no," Robin shook her head sadly. "You're the first definite proof of the multiverse theory. I don't even know how you came here."
"We were attacked at our school by some strange villain," Todoroki explained. "He wrapped us in his cape and somehow made this swirling vortex that sucked us in. Next thing we knew, we were in the room below."
"We found you on a raft in the middle of the ocean," Nami explained. "You would have drowned if not for Luffy grabbing you." She gestured towards Luffy who waved at them all cheerfully.
"Thank you," Deku said gratefully, the others adding to it while Bakugo just grunted and looked away.
"No problem, happy to help you all! Especially since you're from another world! That is so cool!"
"I still can't believe that," Jiro said, shaking her head. "How can we have just landed in another world? What kind of Quirk has that power?"
"You keep saying that, Quirk," Robin noted. "Could you explain that to us?"
"Wait, you really don't know what a Quirk is? You don't have that here?" Mina said in disbelief.
"Perhaps we do and they just go by another term," Robin replied.
The students then explained what Quirks were, them being extraordinary abilities they possessed from a young age with Uraraka demonstrating her floating powers, Kirishima his hardening, and Bakugo his explosions. Tokoyami even explained how he was a heteromorph, born with the head of a crow, and how there were others like him. Chopper perked up at that, interested to hear about animal-human hybrids.
"These sound sort of like Devil Fruits, though more diverse," Robin commented. "And you said 80% of your world has them?"
"Yeah, that's right."
"Whoa!" Luffy exclaimed, a few of the Straw hats echoing his surprise. "That's a lot!"
"So you really don't have Quirks?" Deku asked, the very notion being mind-blowing to him.
"No, but we do have Devil Fruits," Robin replied. As she said that, multiple duplicates of her arm appeared across the table, taking the students by surprise. "This one's mine, the Flower-Flower Fruit, allows me to grow different parts of my body across any surface I want."
"Wow, fascinating," Deku said, already absorbing everything he could about it.
"Why is it called the flower-flower fruit?" Bakugo demanded. "What the hell does that have to do with flowers?"
"I assume it has something to do with my body blooming like a flower across surfaces, but I didn't name it so I can't say for sure."
"That is still really cool," Mina complemented.
"And I ate the Gum-Gum Fruit!" Luffy revealed, pulling on his cheek as much as he could, taking the students aback. "Now I'm a rubberman!"
"Stop doing that, it's gross!" Nami demanded, smacking him.
"So, why do you call them Devil Fruits?" Deku asked curiously.
"Because in order to gain the power, you must eat the fruit," Robin revealed.
"Wait, you didn't have the power when you were born?" Kirishima asked, eyes wide.
"Nope!" Luffy grinned. "I ate my fruit and got the power right after."
"Exactly," Robin affirmed. "No one knows how Devil Fruits came to be. Each one is unique, imbued with a specific power. Though, there aren't nearly as many as there are Quirks. I can't even accurately say how many Devil Fruit users there are in the world but definitely a low number."
"Whoa!" quite a few of the students exclaimed.
"So, your world is full of people with powers?" Usopp checked. "Wow! What's that like?"
The students then went on to describe their world more, explaining that because of the number of people with Quirks, the roles of heroes and villains emerged leading to the system of pro heroes that kept order in the world, something that really excited Usopp, Chopper, and Franky and even Sanji a little.
"Wow, real-life superheroes!" Usopp gushed.
"I know, so cool!" Franky cried.
"Well, we're not heroes yet, we're still just students," Deku corrected, going on to explain how they attended an elite school called U.A. High where they are taught how to be heroes. Because of Quirks, there were all these rules and regulations in place to keep the peace and order. As the students talked, a few of the Strawhats such as Robin and Nami also got the idea that their government, while still quite strict when it comes to what you can and can't do, wasn't as ridiculous as their own as they do try to keep a handle on anything bad that happens by creating heroes to fight back.
Luffy and Zoro remained uninterested in that aspect, neither of them into the whole hero-image these students were conjuring. But Luffy was interested in the new world and everything to do with it while Zoro stayed quiet, watching the students carefully.
The other Straw hats quickly got enamored as the students went on, describing how advanced their world was. Oil-fueled metal boxes that can take you anywhere? Tall skyscraper buildings made of glass? And even machines that they have in space to monitor parts of the planet!
"Your world sounds awesome! And looks super sweet too!" Franky cried, just imagining all the amazing tech that could be in their more futuristic sounding world.
"Seems kind of calmer compared to our world," Nami commented, thinking of how her home could have used this whole hero system. Then again, the Marines were supposed to be heroes, and she knew how that went.
"You're telling me. I always read about heroes and villains in comics, but hearing a world like that makes me kinda want to see it," Sanji added.
"Yeah! I bet you get to do a lot of kickass villain fighting like BANG! POW! KABLAM!" Chopper said while striking some fighting poses.
The students just sweatdropped both at the reindeer's innocence and his simple idea of what's actually a very complicated hero's life. "Well, it's not all glamorous, especially when you encounter a dangerous villain that may almost try and kill you, heheh," Kirishima noted while rubbing the back of his head, thinking of his fight with Rappa.
"Yeah, though it also is cool to be able to design your own hero suit, meet many great people, and follow in the footsteps of the hero you admire!" Mina added to give a more positive aspect of it.
"Yeah! You got heroes like the #1 Hero in Japan, All-Might, who was my inspiration to become a hero though he also isn't technically the #1 Hero right now sadly since he retired not too long ago, which makes Endeavor the #1 Hero in Japan now who also happens to be Todoroki's father and has a quirk called Hellflame that can make him attack opponents with extreme heat that also makes him quite intimidating even if you are just standing next to him, and alongside him is Hawks who is the #2 Hero with a quirk called Fierce Wings that makes him able to do all sorts of tasks easily with each individual feather that also gives him lots of mobility to avoid attacks with his flight and then attack back swiftly and efficiently more than a lot of other heroes that could also perform similar feats with somewhat similar quirks-" Deku rambled until he was bonked on the head by Luffy which got everyone else gasping.
"OW! Why did you do that?" Deku asked rubbing his head.
"Cause you were starting to bore me, man you're starting to remind of me Koby" Luffy answered bluntly.
"Thanks for that," Bakugo muttered, shaking his head at Deku.
A few of the other students stared at Luffy, not sure what to make of him. He sounded and acted like a little kid for most of the conversation but now wore a serious expression as he bonked Deku.
"But hey, I did get that you got some strong people in your world!" Luffy said brightly. "I might want to see them in person someday myself! Hahahahahaha!"
"Probably not for the best Luffy, we don't want you getting lost in that world do we?" Zoro told his captain.
"Like you're one to talk moss head," Sanji whispered causing Zoro to irk at him.
"Can it you lovesick cook!"
"Hey, hey calm down you two idiots!" Nami intervened before a fight could break out. "Well, seems like you guys do have a pretty nice world that at least gives you powers without sacrificing your ability to swim."
"Huh?" a few of the students said.
"What do you mean by that?" Todoroki asked curiously.
"Oh, right, once you eat a Devil Fruit, you lose the power to swim," Robin explained.
"What? Why?" Mina gasped. "That's horrible! I love swimming!"
"Yeah, that's kind of strange," Jiro added.
"Man, I don't know what is better, being born with a quirk without much repercussion, or getting to choose one but not being able to swim?" Kaminari stated.
"It is widely believed that the sea, the source of all life, sees Devil Fruits as unnatural to this world, and rejects them, leading to any who have such abilities to lose all their strength in the water," Robin explained, a few of the students such as Deku listening avidly.
"Really? That's the reason?" Bakugo snorted.
"The true reason remains unknown," Robin shrugged. "The origin of Devil Fruits remains a mystery here."
"Would you mind explaining about your world?" Tokoyami asked. "It would be good to know what kind of things we should expect now that we're trapped here." As he said that, quite a few of the students slumped over, hating to be reminded of that.
"Of course, where should we start?" Robin started as the students listened.
"Well, you said this was called the Grand Line," Deku said. "Why not start there. Where are we exactly?"
"Very well. The world as we know it is divided into six different seas. The four major ones are the North Blue, South Blue, West Blue, and East Blue," Robin explained, taking one of Nami's maps and pointing everything out. "However, there is a stretch of ocean that encircles the whole world, divided in two by a massive continent that runs perpendicular across the world. They are called the Grand Line and the Red Line respectively. You are currently in the second half of the Grand Line, what's commonly called the New World."
"Seems a little coincidental to call it that given our situation," Mina muttered, a few others nodding in agreement.
Robin went on to explain how the Grand Line worked with its various weather patterns, the islands' magnetic fields, and a few of the different races that resided there. The students' eyes widened upon learning about Fish-Man Island and the Fishmen who lived there.
"Aw man, there are mermaids here and I missed them?" Kaminari whined.
"Wow," Deku murmured, taking in all that information. "But…since you don't have a hero system, how does your world work?"
"There are the Marines that seem to act like your heroes do back on your world," Nami said. "But…well…Marines here kind of…"
"They suck!" Luffy chimed in.
"Yep, they totally suck!" Usopp nodded.
"How?" Todoroki asked.
"The Marines serve a coalition of many island nations called the World Government," Robin explained. "However, the World Government serves the World Nobles who are corrupt and seek to dominate the entire world. While there are many Marines who sound like your heroes, truly wanting to help people and act in the name of justice, there are many more who wish to bring the world under their complete control."
"That's horrible!" Uraraka gasped, a few of the students nodding.
"It's why many people have resorted to piracy here," Robin went on, shocking the students further.
"Pirates? Like, actual pirates with jolly rogers and eyepatches and parrots and everything?" Kaminari asked curiously.
"They just go out and become villains?" Deku asked, saddened by that. However, Robin shook her head as well as a few of the others.
"I get what you mean by that, I thought the same once," Nami said carefully. She realized they were now entering dangerous waters with the students. They had already explained how they were training to be heroes to stop villains. And in this world, the Marines were the closest approximation to heroes while pirates acted as the villains. So what would happen when they learned that the people they were talking to were pirates? She needed to act quickly and carefully to assure these students that they were not the enemy.
"I met many pirates who acted like true villains. But I don't think being a pirate here is the same as your world. Here, being a pirate mainly means declaring yourself unaffiliated with the World Government or any other island nation, sailing out on your own terms. Like I said there are plenty of pirates who hurt and kill whoever they want but there are just as many who don't do that, who are just sailing for the adventure and whatnot, so you can't really call them villains."
"Really?" Uraraka asked.
"Yep! That's the kind of pirates we are!" Luffy declared cheerfully.
It became so quiet that one could literally hear a pin drop before Nami sighed, face-palming.
"Wait, you guys are pirates!?" Deku said with some shock. A few of the other students also gaped in shock while others like Bakugo and Todoroki instantly were on edge, getting ready to attack. Zoro and Sanji noticed this and quickly readied themselves for a fight.
"Hahahahaha, you bet we are! And I aim to become the King of the Pirates!" Luffy proudly exclaimed with of course ignorance to the current mood.
"We're the Strawhat Pirates specifically," Brook told them, shrugging. "I thought the ship and jolly roger outside made that obvious."
"But wouldn't that make you villains?" Kaminari asked nervously.
"Yeah!" Bakugo said slamming his foot on the table. "I had a feeling you guys may have been bad news!"
He, Tokoyami, Todoroki, Jiro, and Kaminari looked ready to fight, Kaminari albeit more nervously than the others, while Deku, Uraraka, Mina, and Kirishima seemed more hesitant, having listened to what Nami had said and also recalling the Straw hats' hospitality and friendliness.
The Straw hats, for the most part, just sighed, having gotten used to this with Franky, Brook, and Robin adopting apathetic expressions while Nami sighed in regret and Chopper and Usopp looking a little worriedly around. Zoro and Sanji still stood at the ready in case any of the students attacked while Luffy just kept laughing at the whole situation.
"Kacchan, maybe she's right, maybe we should hear them out about this," Deku tried to reason. "We are new to this world and-"
"Can it Deku, a pirate's a pirate and a pirate's a villain in my book so it's our jobs as heroes to take them down!"
"I'd like to see you try," Zoro said with a grin.
"If you're pirates, why did you rescue us?" Todoroki asked carefully, willing to listen because of Deku. "Are you looking for ransom or something?"
"No, of course not!" Usopp cried out.
"Though it wouldn't hurt," Nami added, thinking of the money they could get.
"Not helping!" Usopp barked, seeing the students on edge again. "Look, we are pirates but we aren't bad! If by villains you mean we kill, pillage, and hurt people, no! We're more like good pirates!"
Sanji began to light a cigarette and took a puff out of it. "Yeah, guess you can say we only hurt those who hurt those we care about."
"I still don't buy it," Bakugo grunted.
"Bakugo, this isn't our world, maybe things are different here," Kirishima reasoned. "Besides, they did save us when they didn't have to and haven't attacked us at all or made any movements to."
"That is true," Todoroki agreed, easing off now followed by a few of the others. Bakugo continued glaring but slowly lowered his hands, no longer looking like he was about to attack which eased the others. Zoro backed down as well now though still gave Bakugo a dirty look to which he responded in kind.
"So why call yourselves pirates then?" Tokoyami asked. "Seems like you're just inviting trouble."
"Don't I know it," Nami and Usopp sighed.
"Pirates represent freedom," Luffy declared. "They're about adventure and friendship on the high seas. All that killing and pillering-"
"Pillaging," Nami corrected.
"That's what I said, pillaming. That's all done by other pirates to give us good pirates a bad name."
"We've never done anything like that," Robin assured the students. "Pirates come in a variety of ways here with some good and some bad. It's the same with Marines, with some working to be true pillars of justice and others being corrupt and despicable."
"Yeah, that's true," Luffy nodded. "Like Koby is a good Marine who wants to stop all the bad pirates from harming people and that axe-hand guy kept trying to hurt the people and exclude anyone who didn't do what he said."
"Do you mean execute?" Jiro asked, confused by that.
"That's what I said."
The students still weren't sure what to think but, given the Straw hats had saved their lives and hadn't done anything to them since they arrived, they decided to give the apparent pirates the benefit of the doubt. Still, a few of them continued to eye their new companions warily in case they made any moves. Though it was hard to see Usopp, Nami, or Chopper being 'villainous' given their natures. Zoro maybe, but definitely not Luffy who just kept beaming at them.
"Okay, so that still means you guys do illegal things against the World Government, right?" Jiro said while twirling her right earlobe jack.
"Well, you can say that, but not without good reason though," Nami added, making them curious about that last part.
"Like I said, the World Government is corrupt," Robin explained. "As Luffy said, most pirates sail to be free from all others and the World Government seeks complete control and domination over everyone."
"Yeah! They don't like freedom, and they tried to take away our friend Robin!" Luffy said gesturing his hand to her.
"Take her away? For what reason?" Uraraka innocently asked, not prepared for the simple yet ridiculous answer.
"It was because she knew the secret to a powerful superweapon that would make them almost invincible to anyone who opposed them," Franky stated, his voice now deadly serious which was a surprise in of itself. But what he said made the students all feel unnerved.
"What kind of superweapon?" Todoroki asked.
"I don't know much about it myself, all I know is that the World Government desperately wants it," Franky replied. "They've hurt and killed a lot of people associated with it to get their hands on it, some…very close to me."
The students all looked at him with sympathy as he talked, the big man's voice sounding fragile as he spoke. His fellow crewmates also looked at him sadly, Usopp patting him on the shoulder.
It was hard for the students to wrap their heads around. They came from a world where things were simple. Heroes and the HPSC they worked for were the good guys and the people who opposed them were villains. There wasn't much in between there. Now, not only were they in a different world, but in one where the government wasn't like theirs at all but actually more like the villains they fought against. In addition, there were pirates that seemed to also be more like the heroes rather than the villains.
"I'm so sorry to hear about that," Deku said to both Franky and Robin.
"It's fine, I was protected by people I trust," Robin replied gently.
"I'LL ALWAYS PROTECT YOU, ROBIN-SWAN!" Sanji cried out, making quite a few of the students chuckle while the Straw hats just sighed at his behavior.
"Exactly," Franky nodded. "In this world, whether it's pirates, Marines, or whatever, as long as you got people you trust by your side, then that's all that matters."
"Yeah, nobody messes with my friends!" Luffy cried out.
That was something the students could understand and respect. So they all decided that, for now, to push aside the hero/villain rationale they had until they knew more about this world.
"So what do you do then?" Deku couldn't help but ask. "Why be pirates?"
"Oh, we're looking for the One Piece!" Luffy said gleefully.
"The One Piece?"
"The One Piece is the legendary treasure of Gold Roger," Robin explained, describing him as the king of the pirates for conquering the Grand Line. He was executed for his crimes but his dying words stated that his great treasure, the One Piece, was hidden in the Grand Line, urging pirates to go out and find it, leading to a great race for the past 20 years that had since been called the Great Pirate Era.
"Wow, so that's why there are so many pirates around?" Uraraka asked.
"Yep, they all want to try and find the One Piece and become the next king of the pirates," Usopp said. "But the one who's gonna do it is our captain there."
"Yep, that's me!" Luffy agreed with a grin.
"Wait, he's the captain?" Bakugo muttered, frowning. "Ugh!"
After that, the Straw hats went on to describe a few of their adventures like how some of them had met at the East Blue, their battles against other pirates like in Alabasta and Thriller Bark, and their journey into Sky Island which especially wowed the students, though a few of them had doubts about islands in the sky. They talked about the people they'd met, like the dueling giant kings of Little Garden or the engineers of the great water train. While some, mainly Bakugo, doubted the authenticity of everything being told, almost all the other students became enthralled with the stories being told.
"This world sounds very fantastical! I mean, mermaids? Giants? Sea monsters? Trains on the sea? An Island in the sky? All sounds like something I'd see in my dreams!" Uraraka exclaimed with excitement for adventure now.
"Though also seems quite dangerous, I mean I know we're supposed to be trained heroes and all, but now I'm having doubts that we have the training to handle this kind of world," Jiro added, which admittedly as awesome as this world is to them, now they were thinking a bit about their chances of even surviving in it. They were just first-year students after all and, despite having had some dangerous encounters nothing could prepare them for all of this.
"Nah, not at all earlobes! I'm sure you guys will fit into this world just fine!" Luffy said, to the dismay of Jiro and her new 'name.'
"Well, we'll cross those bridges when we get to them," Todoroki said. He also had some doubts about everything the Straw hats had described. Despite their attitude, after learning they were pirates he didn't fully trust them. He'd prefer to wait until they reached land and he could verify for himself where they had arrived.
Despite Luffy's words, some of the students did begin to have the sinking feeling of losing hope at being able to get out of this world they were in, especially if it seemed no one would be able to get them back before they deal with something more dangerous than they could handle. It seemed everyone in this world was at each other's throats which would only add to the danger. They had strong wills to become heroes, but that was in their world, not in this one where it seems they could be attacked by just about anyone.
Some of the Straw hats noticed those moods, which made them feel some sympathy for them, along with some of the less sad students.
"Hey c'mon guys, don't look down! I'm sure if there was a way here we can get a way back!" Deku said trying to up their moods. "We got here after all, so that means there is a way back."
"Yeah, ain't no way in hell I'm going to stay in this shitty world. I'm gonna find that stupid villain who brought us here and blast away at him until he takes us back. Then I'll blast him some more for good measure," Bakugo said with a vicious grin that had both students and Straw hats back away from him. "My goal is to become the world's greatest hero and that ain't happening in this world so I'm getting the hell back home no matter what it takes!" he declared firmly, doing his best to be confident about the situation.
"He's right!" Luffy suddenly said which got their attention. "Look, I just met you guys, and while I have no idea what strange abilities you have or what world you came from or how to get back, I promise we will help you get back home no matter what!" Luffy proudly said, which took quite a few of them by surprise.
"You will?" Todoroki questioned.
"Why would you do that?" Tokoyami asked.
"Yeah, aren't we strangers to you guys? And how can you be sure we can find a way back?" Mina asked them.
"What are you talking about pinky? You guys are our friends now!" Luffy said happily.
"F-friends?" Deku asked with a hint of nervousness.
"Yeah, friends! What else would you be broccoli hair," Luffy said with a head tilt. "And as friends, we will do our best to get you guys home, even if we may die trying!"
The students blinked in surprise at his words. But what was more surprising was the way the other pirates smiled and nodded in agreement. They had just met these people and they were already willing to help them this much? That was something they might have expected from the heroes back home, but not from people calling themselves pirates.
Slowly, as Luffy grinned at them all, they began to feel something inside them. Despite the fact that they couldn't really consider him fully trustworthy yet, the way this straw hat boy talked and smiled at them began making them feel more confident that things would turn out okay. They couldn't really explain it, but something about the way he spoke, and the way he even acted, just felt… liberating… and free.
Some of them like Kirishima even found themselves tearing up a bit, since Luffy's words in his terms felt very manly. And not to mention they are also looking at the other members of the crew, who were all also sharing their own smiles and even chuckles at what Luffy said.
"Pfft, like I'd be friends with a weirdo like you," Bakugo snorted.
"Hey! He just said something very manly Bakugo! And it's not very manly to reject that manliness!" Kirishima retorted with some shock.
"Like I care, I just want to find a way for all of us to get back home," Bakugo said looking away.
"Wait, all of us huh?" Mina said with a sly smirk which caused Bakugo to tick.
"Shut up Pink Hair!"
This caused the students to all laugh again at the back-to-back banters between Bakugo and any of them that decided to respond to him, which also got the Strawhat pirates to also join in on the laughter just by observing the scene.
"Thank you," Deku said genuinely to Luffy as well as the other Straw hats. "It means everything to us that you'd be willing to help us out."
"Of course!" Luffy replied. "Happy to help! You guys are fun and you're also from another world which is so cool so naturally I want to be friends and help you."
While his reasoning was a little strange for most of them, they just shrugged it off, still grateful that he was willing to go to such lengths for people he just met.
"You know, I don't believe we've actually formally introduced ourselves," Robin suddenly said. A few of the students blinked in surprise as they realized that while they had talked about their worlds they didn't think to introduce themselves.
"Oh okay, yeah I don't think we have yet! Mind if you guys share first?" Deku asked while the Strawhats nervously noticed him spawning in the notepad he had earlier when they talked about their world.
"Of course! My name is Tony Tony Chopper, the doctor of the crew," Chopper introduced. "And I'm a reindeer who ate the human-human fruit! Which not only allows me to talk like a human but also walk like one and transform into different forms to fight!"
To demonstrate, he transformed into a much larger version of himself, towering over them and taking them by surprise.
"Whoa, awesome!" Kirishima and Uraraka cried.
"Wow, that is really interesting. But there's a human-human fruit?" Deku asked.
"Devil Fruits come in many different forms," Robin explained. "We can go over them later, but one type is the Zoan where the fruit transforms its user to a specific animal such as a wolf or a mole or a falcon. But the human version also exists in other forms. The base model, like for Chopper here, and the former Marine fleet admiral had one that allowed him to turn into a Daibutsu."
"Huh," a few of the students said, picturing that, while Deku quickly noted it down.
"Yeah, I was just an ordinary reindeer apart from my blue nose until I ate the fruit. Then I was suddenly able to talk and think and move about like a human," Chopper explained. "And now I'm the ship's doctor."
The girls couldn't help but find the little doctor adorable at his appearance and voice, to which even the guys would be lying that they also felt.
"My name is Captain Usopp!" the long-nosed sniper cried out. "Leader of 1,000,000 troops! Defeater of countless monsters! And master sniper of this crew as well!"
The students just raised their eyebrows to that statement, not knowing if it was true or not, to which they got their answer with Nami nudging them a bit.
"For the record, he's also a major liar so don't believe most of what he says," she added which got a few of them laughing and Usopp a little infuriated.
"Oh shut up Nami!"
"But anyways, my name is Nami! I'm the navigator, and thanks to Usopp's invention I have this staff that allows me to create different weather like lightning and rain!" she explained, whipping her staff around to show them and even producing a few cloud balls to their amazement that she had float up. "I also like tangerines and money!"
Uraraka's attention was got at the mention of the money part, while Deku thought about how helpful it must be to create weather, and some boys like Kaminari thinking internally how hot she was.
"I'm Soul King Brook!" the skeleton sang out. "The musician of this crew and thanks to the revive-revive fruit I came back to life but not before I became just a pile of bones, which just seeing was honestly very bone-chilling! Yohohohoho! Which is odd since I don't even have eyes! YOHOHOHOHO!"
Despite half of them chuckling at the puns, and half of them rolling their eyes in either annoyance or amusement, Jiro couldn't help but also be low-key interested in him saying he was a musician.
Franky then stepped forward, slamming his wrists together in a pose. "The name's Franky! Cyborg Franky specifically, and shipwright for our ship the Thousand Sunny. I'm part human but part machine, and always down to get funky!"
As he said that, he pressed his nose, changing his hair styles.
"So coooool!" Some of the boys could only think at the mention that he was a cyborg with lots of cool abilities.
"Haha, well I'm Nico Robin, an archaeologist," Robin told them. "I already told you about my flower-flower fruit, which allows me to create any part of my body on any surface that I want."
A few of them couldn't help but be reminded of their classmate Shoji as they watched her produce more arms across the table and walls.
"Hey there, I already introduced myself earlier, so I'll say I'm the chef of this crew," Sanji said, taking a whiff from a cigarette and making Jiro and Mina flush slightly, acknowledging he was kind of cool and handsome. "The name's Sanji and I will only fight with my legs because as a chef, I can't afford to make my hands dirty."
When he heard that, Deku also noted down to ask him about fighting with legs like he did with Iida. He still had a long way to go on that front and any help was appreciated.
Zoro eyed them all when they glanced his way. "Roronoa Zoro," he said shortly. "I'm a three-sword style swordsman and former bounty hunter before I joined this crew."
"Three swords?" Tokoyami asked, his interest in swords making him perk up. "Where does the third one go?"
"In my mouth," Zoro replied with a straight face, the students needing a few seconds to realize he was serious.
"It's as stupid as it looks," Sanji nodded.
"Can it, swirlybrow!"
"Bite me, mosshead!"
"Don't underestimate him," Robin said as the two glared at one another. "It may seem silly, but his way of fighting has made him become a true force to be reckoned with."
"Hmmm," Bakugo mumbled, eyeing the swordsman. He'd been dubious about the sword-mouth thing, especially when realizing that the guy didn't have a Quirk or Devil Fruit or whatever. But when he looked over, he got a vibe from the man he couldn't shake.
"And I'm Monkey D. Luffy! The captain who ate the gum-gum fruit and turned my entire body into rubber!" Luffy cried out. "And I'm gonna be king of the pirates!"
As the introductions ended, the students looked at the Strawhats with intrigue, as Deku was writing stuff down at the speed of light as he saw them each demonstrate a bit of their abilities as they explained them.
"Wait, so some of you have devil fruits but most of you don't?" Todoroki asked, which is something the other's noticed.
"Oh yeah, which doesn't change how much stronger some of us may be actually, like Zoro over there may not have on but I'd say he's the second strongest next to Luffy," Nami explained, which made a nearby cook internally sad at Nami, but also internally furious at the moss head.
"Well, if you guys who don't have devil fruits are still strong, then that says a lot about how dedicated and strong willed you guys are," Tokoyami pointed out, which made some of the Strawhats go into a blushing spree.
"Awww you don't mean that!"
"Stop! You're making me blush!"
"Please! I can't take such kind praise!"
And while a humorous situation, Deku thought about both that comment and even the realization that some of these guys were possibly really strong without the use of getting an ability, devil fruit or quirk. If that's the case, then would that mean he still would have…
"Wait, how can Luffy be the strongest with a gum fruit? I don't see how that could help with combat," Kaminari asked, which had them stop for a moment before a few of them began laughing again.
"Oh, you will see…" Sanji said with a slight smirk. "But enough about us, how about you guys share your names and abilities? Especially the ladies," he added, shooting a grin the girls' way and making them flush slightly.
"Yeah, what are your superpowers? Oh, and do you have super cool superhero names too!" Chopper cried out excitedly.
"Yeah, tell us! Tell us!" Franky and Usopp instantly echoed, hyped for actual superheroes like in the comics they'd read.
"Oh, well sure! My name is Ochaco Uraraka!" she said, deciding to go first. "My quirk is Zero Gravity and allows me to nullify the gravity of both myself and any objects I touch, making them float. Oh, and my hero name is Uravity."
"Really, Uravity?" Franky, Usopp, and Chopper said, making her feel self-conscious.
"What a lovely name," Sanji said brightly. "A perfect choice."
"Floating, huh?" Robin said quietly, reminded of a certain pirate they'd faced back in the first half of the Grand Line with a similar power.
"Show us, show us!" Luffy chanted until Uraraka made the whole table float upwards. She then, to Luffy's urging, made him float until he was swimming through the air, giggling like a little kid.
"Alright, I'm next," Mina said. "Hi, I'm Mina Ashido! My quirk is acid, which allows me to create acid from any part of my body to fight or move around!" She then held out her hands, letting her acid spray though only a mild amount so it wouldn't cause any damage. "And I go by Pinky."
"Really?" Franky, Usopp, and Chopper said with some disappointment.
"Yeah, I'm not too thrilled about it either, but it kind of works so I decided to roll with it," Mina said, shrugging.
"I think it suits you perfectly, darling Mina," Sanji said flirtatiously, making her beam at him.
"Aw, thanks!"
"Alright," Jiro said, "My name is Kyoka Jiro, and my quirk is Earphone Jack which involves these earphone jacks at my earlobes that I can use to hear far away distances for support and surveillance. I can also plug them into certain devices to amplify sound. And that's also my superhero name, Earphone Jack." She then glared at the three enthusiasts who decided to just stay quiet and not share their thoughts on her name. Brook though couldn't help but lean forward when she mentioned amplifying sound and devices.
"I can actually do that too," Robin revealed, an ear suddenly sprouting on the table, taking them by surprise. "I find it very useful."
"Thanks Robin," Jiro said.
"I think your ears are divine!" Sanji said.
"Thanks," she told him with less enthusiasm.
"Give it up," Zoro told him.
"Why don't you give up your life?"
"Why don't you give up your face?"
"How about you next?" Nami asked Todoroki as the students stared at the two fighting. "Don't worry about them, they do that all the time."
"Ok," Todoroki nodded. "My name is Shoto Todoroki, and I have a half-cold and half-hot quirk that allows me to create fire on my left side and ice on my right side." He demonstrated, producing ice and fire simultaneously. "I just go by Shoto though."
"Aw man."
"Awesome!" Luffy cried out, still floating. "Kind of like Ace and his fire. Oh, and that ice admiral…ah, what's his name?"
"Aokiji," Robin supplied, having thought the same thing.
"Yeah, that's it!"
"That is unique," Nami commented, looking closer. "I can't think of any Devil Fruits that would do both like that. Plus, in terms of weather, I can think of countless applications."
Todoroki nodded. "I already know how to make an explosion by expanding the cool air with my fire."
That made Nami sigh and roll her eyes. "Boys and their explosions."
"Hi, I'm Denki Kaminari! Electrification is my quirk! Allows me to create electricity from my body at certain volts and watts! Though I probably shouldn't release it here cause it kind of goes everywhere," he said. As he talked, most of the Straw hats had flashbacks to Sky Island and the self-proclaimed god they met there, a few shivering as they remembered getting zapped by his power. "Oh, and my hero name is Chargebolt!"
"Awesome!" the three enthusiasts cried, excited to finally hear a cool superhero name to go with a cool power.
"Thanks guys, it is cool isn't it?" Kaminari said, grateful some people appreciated him and his name.
Tokoyami then stepped up. "I'm Fumikage Tokoyami, my quirk is Dark Shadow which is a sentient shadow monster that I can control and use to fight."
To demonstrate, Dark Shadow suddenly rose behind him, making a few of the Straw hats like Usopp, Nami, and Chopper back up fast. Robin and Brook stared with fascination at the sight while Zoro nodded in approval. Luffy had stars in his eyes.
"I go by Tsukuyomi, the god of the night."
"SO COOL!" Luffy and Franky gushed, Usopp and Chopper still cowering and holding up cross signs in front of them.
"Can I pet him?" Luffy asked, already doing it anyway.
"Hi there, I'm Eijiro Kirishima, also known as Red Riot! And my quirk is Hardening, which allows me to make any part of my body or skin as hard as rock!" Kirishima said with enthusiasm, already hardening his body.
"Awesome!" Luffy cried, already floating down to him while the enthusiasts cheered for another awesome superhero name and power. "Can I try punching you?"
"Sure!"
"Not right now!" Nami admonished.
"What about you?" Zoro asked, looking over at Bakugo who'd stayed by the corner the furthest from the crew. "What can you do?"
"Pfft," Bakugo replied, rolling his eyes. "The name's Katsuki Bakugo and you'd better remember it. My quirk is explosion, which can make me create explosions from my sweat." He made a blast with his hand. "I don't have a hero name at the moment, still trying to think of one that suits me. But my goal is to be the world's greatest hero and no matter what happens to me or where I'm thrown to, I won't let anything stop me."
As he said that, both Luffy and Zoro looked at him in a new light. He'd already said that before but they could really feel his resolve as he said it, making them respect him, even if his attitude left a lot to be desired.
"Wow, the angry one is the explosive one, huh?" Nami said with a sigh.
"Yeah, it's been a problem," Mina admitted.
"And lastly," Robin said, looking towards Deku who flushed slightly as everyone followed her gaze.
"H-hi, I'm Izuku Midoriya, but you can call me Deku!" he said, stammering slightly. "My quirk just allows me to control different amounts of strength at a time, just as long as I don't use too much of it at once."
"Deku?" the enthusiasts repeatedly quietly amongst themselves.
"Well, at least we got three cool names," Usopp said, the other two nodding in agreement.
Luffy, however, eyed Deku carefully, sensing with his haki that there was more to his power than what he was saying. But he swiftly moved on, not feeling the need to pry there.
"Well, I would say that for now you might want to consider saying you all have Devil Fruits," Robin suggested. "If you don't, you might draw unwanted attention to yourselves and trust me when I say that there are plenty of people, especially the World Government, who would come after you if they get a hint as to where you're really from."
That made quite a few of them shiver, feeling the authenticity of her words while feeling a little sad that that was how this government worked. Deku also couldn't help but think of Eri and her power and how people had abused her for it.
"You should also pretend you don't know how to swim," Zoro stated which, made a few pause, not sure how to feel about not swimming in a world with so much water.
"Hey, do they all go double like gum-gum and flower-flower?" Deku asked.
"For some reason, yes," Robin nodded.
"Well, I guess if it's just till we find a way home, I don't mind referring to Dark Shadow as like an entity-entity fruit," Tokoyami suggested.
"Really, that's the best you got?" Dark Shadow complained.
"It can talk!" Chopper and Usopp yelped, raising their crosses again.
"Oh! And I can be the acid-acid fruit!" Mina chipped in excitedly as the others began to think of certain names.
"And I'll be the rock-rock fruit!" Kirishima yelled out.
"And I could maybe be the ear-ear fruit," Jiro also thought of. "And Kaminari, you could be the fry-fry fruit."
"Fry-fry fruit? Sounds cool! Cause I always fry my opponents, I like it!"
Jiro couldn't hold in her laughter here. "N-no, 'cause you always fry your b-brain when you use your quirk!"
Everyone in the room was laughing except for Kaminari. "Oh cmon not again Jiro! Ugh, I'll just do the zap-zap fruit or something." Kaminari said with annoyance much to Jiro's pleasure.
"Oh take it easy, though I think Bakugo would fit with the boom-boom fruit," Jiro couldn't help but remark, making the more guy immature people in the room laugh at that one. She usually didn't act this way, but if was at the expanse of people she found easy to make fun of, she didn't mind.
"Don't make me kill you earlobes! I'm just doing the nitro-nitro fruit," Bakugo responded, making some of them give confused looks. "Because my sweat is nitroglycerin and creates my explosions you morons!"
"The gravity-gravity fruit sounds pretty cool I guess, unless it's already taken…" Uraraka thought.
"Oh, what on earth could my fruit be? Maybe the cowling-cowling fruit? Or the smash-smash fruit?" Deku's mind was thinking.
"Hmmm… Would I be an ice-flame fruit? Or an ice flame-ice flame fruit? I also like the sound of half-half fruit," Todoroki silently pondered.
As the rest of them began thinking of what they could call their abilities in this world. Luffy decided to walk up to them and make a proclamation.
"Okay, now that introductions are done, I'd like to ask one more thing," Luffy stated which got everyone's attention. "At least until we find out how to bring you guys back home… How would you like to become temporary crew members and officially travel with us till then?"
The students looked at Luffy with mostly wide but curious eyes at his proposal, including some of the strawhats themselves. They had the idea that they would be going with them while they tried to find out how to get home, probably until they arrived at the next island, but becoming temporary crewmates means also being temporary pirates, something that made them feel slightly apprehensive.
They all looked at Luffy before sharing nervous glances with one another, unsure of how to proceed. They had quickly gotten along with the Straw hats, despite the fact they were pirates, and really liked them. But they were still pirates. And even if that meant something different than it did in their world, it felt wrong for them as heroes to team-up with pirates.
"W-well, actually Luffy, we appreciate the offer, but-" Deku tried to say before he was suddenly interrupted.
"We're not pirates," Bakugo said firmly. "We may be in another world, but I'm still going to be a hero no matter what and I'm not going to let anything stand in my way."
"Yeah, um…I know you said pirates aren't villains here, and I believe you," Deku said quickly. "But…we're not pirates, and we don't want to be them."
"Don't get the wrong idea, we're really grateful and everything, but I don't think being a pirate is…for us," Uraraka said, the other students nodding along. It was clear to them all that the Straw hats weren't really villains. But still, they went against the authorities in this world, even if they did claim they were corrupt, and that wasn't something the students were eager to be a part of.
"Aw man," Luffy mumbled, slumping over slightly.
"I get what you're saying, but right now we are your best shot at getting home and it's better that you stick with us," Nami reminded them. "I didn't want to be a pirate at first either, but Luffy did convince me there are different ways of doing it."
That did make the students pause. "Yeah, but…" Deku said, not actually sure what to say next.
"How about this," Robin said, drawing their attention. "Why don't you form an alliance with us rather than officially joining our crew? Like Vivi did back at Alabasta. That way, you won't necessarily be pirates even if you are associated with us."
The students paused again, mulling that over. It still felt too far from what they were comfortable with, though everything about this kind of fit that description. Deku opened his mouth, about to propose he and his classmates be granted some privacy to talk it over, when Bakugo spoke up again.
"Ya know what, why not!" he said, taking his classmates by surprise. "It's not like we have many options here anyway. Seems like the best deal we're going to get. But don't get me wrong pirates, my goal will never change. I am going to become the world's greatest hero one day. I'm just working with you for now so I can complete my goal and I won't do anything that will go against it, got it?"
"Hahaha, of course boom boy! I'm not interested in wanting to be a hero, but if you guys still want to be heroes while being pirates, I won't mind!" Luffy stated.
"Fine strawhat- wait WHAT YOU CALL ME!?"
The other students all exchanged glances before nodding along, some more eagerly than others. They realized that this was probably the best they were going to get right now so decided for now to just go along with it.
"Yeah man, if pirates like you are this manly, than hanging around you guys for a bit could be interesting!" Kirishima added.
"Yeah! Let's show this New World what future heroes from another world have in store!" Mina added herself.
The others also began nodding in similar agreement and reasons even. Then Deku began to walk up to the crew, as Luffy himself began to grow a smile.
"... You know Luffy, one day I want to become the world's greatest hero, and while it may be a bit till we can get back to our world…" Deku said as he then reached his hand out. "... I feel confident it will happen, with the future pirate king by our side."
"HAHAHAHA! You got that right broccoli hair! Welcome aboard!" Luffy stated as he grabbed his hand and shook it violently, much to Deku's displeasure.
Both the students of U.A. and crewmembers of the Strawhats looked at each other with dedicated looks, both sides now having entered an unfamiliar world, full of new and possible adventures that will eventually lead the U.A. students to unknowingly partake in what would be some of the biggest events this world has ever seen. At least until they find a way back to their home of course.
However, most of them couldn't shake the sense of doubt and unease over their situation. First, there was the fact that they had been dropped into a new world that was completely different from their own with no teachers or pro heroes to help them out. And that the only people able to help them at the moment were apparent pirates, despite their friendly attitude. They knew that this was the best they could do at the moment with their limited options but were also anxiously awaiting for when they arrived at land so that they could get a better sense of this new world and what their options were. These pirates seemed good enough people, but they were still pirates with plenty of other people out there after them, something that put the students on edge.
In all honesty, they all just wanted to wake up from this dream.
"Oh yeah, broccoli hair, I wanted to ask you something," Luffy said to Deku, shaking him from his thoughts.
"What is it Luffy?" Deku replied.
"When I first saw you out on the raft, I felt… Wait, why has it gotten hot all of a sudden?" Luffy began saying while sticking his tongue out, before feeling a heat that everyone else at the same time began to feel.
"Strange, last time I checked we didn't seem like we'd be heading to hot weather," Nami added as she began walking outside.
Everyone else followed suit, but off in the distance, they saw what looked to be an island with not only a volcano but one entirely covered in scorching fire, including the surrounding sea.
Not only were the students dumbfounded at the site, but even the Strawhats themselves.
"Luffy! None of the needles on the log pose are pointing toward that island! We should turn back!" Nami exclaimed.
"Uh, are flaming islands normal here?" Kaminari with a bit of hope that this might be a joke.
"Not in the slightest! All I know is we should not go there!" Usopp yelled in fear, which lead Sanji to sigh and give a more calmer response.
"Unfortunately Kaminari, one thing we do know about the New World…is to expect the unexpected," Sanji stated as they stared at the inferno, which just caused most of them to gulp in fear.
Having been used to the city and regular town life back in their world, they were already not what you'd call sailors who are used to being on the ocean. But just this sight made them realize that learning the way of the ocean would be the least of their worries.
"Oh man, who had the bright idea to set an entire island on fire!? This heat is killing me from just this far!" Kirishima said trying to wave himself cool a bit.
"Don't look at me," Todoroki said in response to no one, making quite a few of them eye him weirdly.
"Wohoo! Let's go check it out!" Luffy yelled with excitement, much to the horror of some of them.
"Absolutely not Luffy! Even for the New World, this is bad news!" Nami tried to tell him, only for it to fall on deaf ears.
Some like Deku and Bakugo, despite always being known to throw themselves into danger at times, admittedly felt some apprehension with going over to that island as well. "Maybe Nami's right Luffy, I may not still know a lot about what other islands are around here, but look!" Deku pointed down, and everyone saw groups of fish bones in the water that were caused by the boiling hot water from the fire. "If the water is hot enough to melt fish to the bone, then we may be better off finding a much safer island!"
"F-Franky, we will be safe on this ship, right?" Uraraka asked nervously.
"I don't want our pirate journey to already end in flames!" Mina also added.
"Not to worry girls! The Sunny is super safe!" Franky said while striking a pose.
"Well, we get that the ship is strong now! Can't we just move on!?" Jiro yelled out.
Just then they heard an odd sound coming from one of the rooms on the ship, one the kids didn't really understand, but the Strawhats realized was coming from their transponder snail, which was… crying?
As they entered the dining room, they saw the snail profusely crying which made the students stare in shock and in some cases revulsion.
"Ok, what the hell is that thing?" Bakugo said.
"It's a transponder snail. It allows us to communicate with other people across distances," Robin explained.
"It's a snail phone," Todoroki surmised. "Fascinating."
"Is it? More like icky and gross," Mina shuddered. "Why couldn't phones here be like the ones we have?"
"At least I won't have to charge these guys," Kaminari muttered to himself.
"Hey, is that normal for transponder snails to do?" Kirishima asked.
"Yeah, why is it crying? Is it hungry? Got a tummy ache buddy?" Luffy himself even asked.
"That's an S.O.S. alert, you idiot! Means someone is trying to send out a distress call!" Sanji explained to his oblivious captain. At least the kids were new to this world still, Luffy was just being an idiot who didn't know much.
Before most of the students could give their thoughts on picking it up since they have been trained to help people in need, Robin quickly intervened.
"Wait Luffy! Don't! Emergency calls can't be trusted! They're usually from marines who try to trick pirates and trace their location!" Robin yelled with evident worry, which got the student's attention since she seemed like the smartest and calmest of the group.
"B-but what if it's really someone in need?" Uraraka asked anxious about what was going on already.
"Well I'm not sure if people in this world are going to be the nicest anyways, so maybe we shouldn't unless we are sure," Todoroki added.
"Robin and Todoroki are right! We should at least think about this before we do any-" Usopp was saying right before he was interrupted with the sound of their words falling on deaf ears with not just Luffy, but someone else.
"Deku here! Hero at your service!" Deku instinctively said answering it without hesitation.
"Yeah, who is it!? Luffy speaking too! Future Pirate King!" Luffy also added with Deku.
"WHAT ARE YOU IDIOTS DOING!?" Usopp was begging to chastise before the snail responded.
" HELP ME!"
Everyone froze as the voice yelled out, all practically unnerved by that sudden cry from the snail. The students were surprised to see the snail's face suddenly morph into a terrified expression as it emulated it's caller, a few shuddering at the sight while others just felt more alarm, the situation feeling more real because of it.
" It's so cold here! Is this the boss!?"
"No, I ain't your boss!" Luffy yelled.
"What do you mean by it's cold there? It's only extremely hot where we are!" Deku asked the person.
" All of my people… All coming down… One after another!"
" We're being killed by a samurai! Huff, Huff…"
"A samurai?" Everyone thought.
"Wait! What's your name!?" Luffy asked quickly.
"And where are you now!? We can try and find and help you!" Deku responded afterwards.
Everyone in the room watch it intently, not knowing it his mysterious caller was real or not, or if he sounded like he would even get help in time.
" Someone help!…. We're trapped here on…"
…
" ... PUNK HAZARD!"
