A Fissure in Time

Summary:

After I probably died, I was left in a world I knew to be a video game and yet while some events are still the same, others are veering off course and as much as I want to fix it, part of me is ecstatic. Can I truly belong here with them?

OR

Cate is isekaid into her favourite video game as a NPC who knew MC from the EVER research lab. After being left behind, she navigates this new world where the men aren't interested in MC. Oh no, they're more interested in HER, this mystery woman who calls to their souls stronger than MC ever did. Will they make it?

Chapter Text

It had been a long long week. But I had finally made it. I was officially a Hunter.

I glanced beside me to see MC who was whispering with the girl beside her. She was beautiful. It made sense that over the next few months she would gain the attention of three Love Interest and in a year, a fourth before finally discovering that the fifth was always there for her.

I had a slight burning resentment for MC. She had it all. The looks, the brains, the strength, the burning desire to help. She was the epitome of ‘main character energy’. She didn’t recognise me. But the resentment fell as I looked forward again. She didn’t ask for their attention in this life or her previous ones. She didn’t know about them, their history together. I wasn’t meant to know and I did. She didn’t recognise me at all.

I heard my name be called forward and I stepped up to the podium. When checking what my evol is, they glance at me confused.

“Ah, I don’t have one,” I lie smoothly, used to having to hide who I am at this point.

They exchange a confused look between them, a Hunter without an evol is exceedingly rare, but I ignore it and I’m finally free to stand back in line. Somehow, despite no evol, I’ve been placed with the elite team UNICORNS. The same one as MC. Great.

The rest of the induction ceremony proceeds and eventually it’s finally over. We were all Deepspace Hunters.

I turn to leave, eager to get to my apartment and fall into bed. I won’t start until next week, giving me time to prepare. As I take a step forward, I hear that oh so familiar voice call out my name.

“Hey! Wait up!”

I hold in a sigh I want to release and turn back around, facing MC and Tara.

“We’re all in the same unit so I was thinking we could go grab some drinks, get to know each other as we’ll be working together,” she smiles at me and my heart clenches.

“I… I don’t know. I was just going to head home and relax…” I mumble, avoiding their gazes.

“It’ll be fun, we promise,” Tara chimes in.

I sigh out loud this time, a familiar fake smile on my face, “You won’t let it go until I agree will you?”

“Nope!” MC smiles at me.

“Fine, fine. Let’s go.”

“I’m MC by the way, and this is Tara.”

“You already know my name but I’ll introduce myself anyways. I’m Cate.”
