Work Text:
Sungho loves his boyfriend, he really does.
He loves that Jaehyun always showers him with affection, even though he loves it a little bit less when it is shown right then and there, with Jaehyun practically consuming Sungho’s neck in front of everyone in the cafeteria at the peak hour of lunchtime. Sungho is not exactly a confident and bold teenager, unlike Jaehyun is.
He also loves it when he’s more subtle with it. In his sweet gestures like the box of chocolate milk and Sungho’s favorite panda-shaped cookies on his desk in the morning after a petty fight the night before. One day he had got a rare peach-flavored one and he couldn’t thank the gods enough for being on his boyfriend’s side.
He also secretly loves it that—when they walk home together after school and Jaehyun can’t seem to get enough of Sungho’s annoyed pouts after rounds of teasing—he would scream his lungs out in the middle of a neighborhood two blocks away from Sungho’s—just to express his uncontained affection which typically sounds like: “PARK SUNGHOOOOO!!!! I. LOVE. YOUUUUUUUAAAHHH!!!!!!” in a decibel that is high enough to wake every unemployed person in their vicinity up from their afternoon nap.
So he really can’t understand why he just got a text from Jaehyun saying “you don’t love me anymore.” and a crying emoji.
Sungho doesn’t remember, and as much as tries to, can’t remember the last thing he did that could have possibly pissed Jaehyun off. On the contrary, he thinks he’s done a great job at boyfriend-ing today: he texted Jaehyun good morning, walked with him to school (and let his boyfriend suck another hickey on his neck by the rear of the school), kissed him goodbye when they parted for their classes, not before receiving a box of strawberry milk and his favorite panda-shaped cookies—
wait. the panda-shaped cookies!
Sungho was walking in the corridors to get to his locker after a P.E. class when he saw Taesan, a senior who had just helped him get into the school’s reputable soccer team by talking Sungho up to the other members. If Sungho doesn’t play about one thing in his life, it’s soccer, and so he was utterly grateful and didn’t feel like a simple thank you at Taesan could be enough. That’s why as soon as he noticed Taesan’s presence, he’d hurriedly darted towards his locker, get the panda-shaped cookies and rushed back to where Taesan was, to finally give him the cookies.
“How do you know vanilla is my favorite?” had been Taesan’s response, with a little bit of a pink tinge on his cheeks and a playful smile.
Sungho didn’t. It was just what he had available. And so he said, “Well uh… t-thank you for your help!” and walked off the scene, slightly uneasy.
If by some kind of miracle had Jaehyun been there and witnessed all that unfold, it must be the reason behind his crying emoji text just now.
Come to think of it, Sungho is able to sympathize with his boyfriend. Even though the cookies were no rare flavored today (it was vanilla), he shouldn’t have given it away as if it meant nothing. Moreover, he shouldn’t have given it away as a thankful gesture to a senior. Those cookies, they contained Jaehyun’s sentiments for him, after all.
So now, he has one mission: to find Jaehyun, coax him up to let Sungho walk him home, and apologize.
His determined strides haven't betrayed him when he can see Jaehyun there, just stepping out of his history class, his hair soft and unkempt and his eyes lacking their lively twinkle.
“Hey.” Sungho says, holding his breath. “I’m sorry. Let’s talk while we walk home?”
Thankfully, Jaehyun replies, “Okay.”
And even though Sungho could hear the dejected tone in his voice, here they are now, two blocks away from Sungho’s house, walking side by side.
After drawing in a breath, Sungho says, “I know that although you get me those panda-shaped cookies almost every morning, I shouldn’t have taken the gesture for granted. I’m sorry, I made a mistake. I wanted to say thank you, but I didn’t need to use the cookies that I got from you to do it. Taesan had— mmhm!!?"
Jaehyun had given him a smooch so hard he almost had his lips swallowed.
“Don’t wanna hear his name.” he says after ending the kiss with a pop. Sungho can’t help but grin at this.
“So… does it mean you forgive me?” he asks. Jaehyun just ignores this, turning his head away even though Sungho can see that the sparkles in his eyes are back.
“Baby?” he tries, bumping his shoulder playfully onto Jaehyun’s left one. He can see that Jaehyun is smiling from the side of his face now, but he has yet to reply.
Sungho sighs and builds up his resolve. He sucks in a deep breath, and screams:
“MYEONG. JAEHYUUUUUUUUUUNNNNN!!!!!! I. LOVE. YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!”
Anything for his love, to get Jaehyun to tease him again, to get his attention back, however overwhelmingly huge it might be.
And Sungho doesn’t regret it even when three people in the neighborhood had just snapped their heads towards him with a questioning look. He doesn’t mind, especially when it gets Jaehyun beaming with his sparkly eyes on him once again.
(When he got home, it wasn’t until two hours later due to the fact that Jaehyun had dragged him off into the nearest alleyway, sucking on his lips and neck as if the world was going to end tomorrow. He had made a mental note to avoid that particular senior from now on, even if it meant prioritizing his boyfriend over soccer.)
