captured in a kiss

Summary:

It’s endearing how hard Sakura has been trying to get along with everyone. He’s even gotten used to being touched, all the flinching and growling replaced by feigned annoyance and relaxed shoulders. Mitsuki is proud to claim that he has contributed quite a bit to Sakura’s progress in that area.

Work Text:

Mitsuki stares at Sakura sitting across from him, watching as he furrows his eyebrows at his phone. He’s barely surviving the stream of messages in their friend group chat, nevermind the notifications he gets from their grade, team, and school chats, but he’s already trying to create a social media profile at the request of their classmates.

He’s diligent like that, Mitsuki figures.

He’s been able to wrap his arms around Sakura, ask for piggyback rides, and even get him to sit on his lap, as long as Mitsuki doesn’t stop playing with his hair in return.

Sakura grumbles something about there being so many buttons, and Mitsuki can’t help but squeeze the cushion in his lap. The cute cushion that Sakura bought for him. He’d been against Mitsuki having his own little corner in his apartment, but in a very Sakura-like fashion, he’d invited him again a week later to show that he had, in fact, set up a small space for Mitsuki in his home.

He knows that Sakura had done the same for the others, but Mitsuki can’t help but let his heart swell with affection at Sakura’s thoughtful gestures.

A small and selfish part of him wishes Sakura would treat only him differently. But Mitsuki knows that’s too far-fetched. For now, at least.

All he can do is make sure he gets Sakura to think about him as much as he does him.

“Having trouble?” He asks, scooting closer. Sakura lets him into his personal space more easily now, and Mitsuki takes the opportunity to rest his chin on Sakura’s shoulder.

He smells nice. Like sunshine and citrus. Mitsuki wants to bury his face in Sakura’s neck and just breathe him in, but stops himself when he hears him sigh.

“Why do I have to go through all this just to use this damn app?” Sakura complains, showing Mitsuki his phone screen. “I shouldn’t have downloaded it.”

He’s pouting now, leaning back against Mitsuki. Sakura probably hasn’t realized it, and Mitsuki wouldn’t dare to comment, afraid that Sakura might shy away from him again.

Instead, he moves so Sakura can lie on the cushion on Mitsuki’s lap as he takes Sakura’s phone to help him set up his profile.

It’s done in less than a minute, and Mitsuki hands the phone back to Sakura, who makes no move to slip away from his current position.

“You can just skip all the prompts if you don’t want any information on display,” Mitsuki explains. “Oh, but having a profile picture might be good.”

“I don’t have any pictures.” Sakura looks up at him.

Mitsuki hums, following the curves on Sakura’s face. “We could take one now? Like a selfie.”

“You mean the two of us?” Mitsuki doesn’t miss the way Sakura’s cheeks and ears color.

Mitsuki nods. “It’s okay if you don't wanna.”

Sakura goes silent, then sits up. Mitsuki immediately misses his weight and warmth on him. “Let’s do it,” he says, determined despite the dark shade of red on the tips of his ears and his nape. Mitsuki wants to put his lips on his skin.

“Okay.” He says, and takes Sakura’s phone again to hold the camera up in front of them. “On the count of three?”

“Wait—” Sakura grabs his wrist. “What… what do I do?”

Mitsuki looks at him. “You can just look straight at the camera, or smile, if you want to.”

Sakura frowns, but he nods, albeit hesitantly. “Okay.”

Mitsuki bites back a smile, then holds up the phone again. “Ready?” Sakura straightens up, and Mitsuki can see him trying to figure out where to look. “One… two…”

“Three!” Just as he presses the shutter button, Mitsuki presses his lips against Sakura’s cheek. A quick peck that Sakura jerks at, yelping like he’d been burnt.

He leans away from Mitsuki, one hand over the cheek Mitsuki just kissed, and looking like he’d been betrayed. “What the hell’d you do that for?!” Sakura yells, face as red as a tomato.

Mitsuki giggles, then pulls Sakura back to him. “Just felt like it,” he shrugs.

The photo is a little blurry, but it’s obvious that Mitsuki has his lips on Sakura’s cheek. He even managed to capture the shock on Sakura’s face. Mitsuki wastes no time sending the photo to himself and changing Sakura’s profile picture.

“Oi, don’t use that photo!”

“Why not?” Mitsuki pouts. “But I like it…”

Sakura sputters, still blushing, but he eventually relaxes the longer Mitsuki pouts at him. He clicks his tongue, grabbing his phone from Mitsuki. Sakura turns his back to him, but he can see him staring at their photo on his phone.

Mitsuki can’t help but want to kiss him again.
