Chapter 1: invisible

Chapter Text

12-year-old Wyatt MacGyver sat on a swing watching his parents and older twin siblings talk about science. Wyatt would often pretend to understand what they were talking about, but tonight he couldn’t be asked. He was not looking forward to tomorrow, which was the start of a new school year. Wyatt wasn't a fan of school; he found it hard. his best grades were only Cs and D’s unless it was art, he nearly always got A’s, but it didn’t count as art wasn't a real subject, not like science.
His 16-year-old twin brother and sister, Ellen and Harry, were straight-A students in every academic subject. Had loads of trophies and rosettes from science fairs and decathlons and other things.
Wyatt had one rosette from a school art fair but no one knew about it. He was going to ask his mum and dad to come but when he was about to ask his brother and sister had asked them to their decathlon which was happening the same afternoon so Wyatt didn’t bother telling them about it. It never occurred to him that one parent would go to one and the other the other one. He knew that 9 times out of 10 they would choose the twins.
It wasn't true that they had missed one event of his due to traffic caused by an accident, but it had cleared later that day, meaning they could get to the twins' event. Since then, Wyatt hadn't bothered telling them about anything. Saves him from feeling forgotten, like he had felt that time.
His parents Angus and Riley MacGyver were so smart and worked at a think tank solving the world's problems alongside his uncle Bozer and aunt Leanne, Grandpa Jack and grandma Matty. The twins hoped to work there one day but he had no hope.
Wyatt decides to go indoors and make sure he has everything ready for school. Including snacks as his lunch money went to his bully Russ, as unlike his siblings he had no friends. He also packs his P.E. kit as he wants to try out for track. As this year he was required to do one after-school sport and if he could get good at running maybe he could outrun Russ.
He so hoped that this school year would be different, but it probably won’t be. It couldn’t be any worse right?
