Peter and Frank were taking down goons, stalling time for Matt to find the documents they needed in the warehouse. "Red, hurry the hell up" Frank grumbled into the comm—which they didn't need for Matt, since the man had superhearing, but Peter insisted. "Language. And I'm almost done, found the documents, making my way to the roof now. We might need someone for info" the other vigilante grunted, the sound of his hurried steps clear over the comms.
Peter punched the last conscious attacker, disabling the man as Frank motioned him over. Jogging after the older man, they made their way to the stairs together, Peter half climbing over the walls as they got to the roof. Matt was already there, documents in hand, foot pressed down on someone's chest as he waved. "Hey kid, Frank" he murmured, handing the documents to Frank. Peter raised an eyebrow leaning down to look at the man with mild curiosity. "Who's he? Someone important?"
Matt shrugged, pulling the man up at his shirt. "No idea, but his heartbeat seemed like he was the closest to waking up" Frank huffed, pocketing the documents. "Freaky powers.." Peter made an offended noise, crossing his arms. "Hey! I have those powers too!" He scoffed with a mild pout. The punisher rolled his eyes, but backed down with a smirk. "Yeah yeah kid. Anyone hurt?" The man mumbled, looking at Matt specifically as he began to check up on the man (who was definitely blushing slightly, but Peter wasn't gonna call him out). "M fine Frank, how about you? And Peter?" The red vigilante huffed, crossing his arms as Frank rolled his eyes, arm swung around the man's shoulders.
Peter was about to say something, when Matt began doing his head twitching, holding his hand in front of Peter's chest. "Someone's coming." The man muttered, 'looking' around. Frank's hand immediately reached back for his guns, meanwhile Peter frowned as his spidey sense stayed quiet. It was quickly explained when he heard the familiar sound of the Ironman repulors, relaxing again as he put a hand over Frank's gun. "Don’t worry, 's just Ironman and... captain america?" He added the last part with a confused mumble. As soon as he said the words, Mr stark and Rogers landed on the roof, much to daredevil’s annoyance. Frank’s eyes narrowed at them with a huff, hand still loosely around one of his many guns, but not making any moves to attack as he stood in front of Matt and Peter protectively.
”Hey mr stark, cap! What are you guys doing here?” Peter asked cheerfully, decidedly ignoring the comment Matt made about the two avengers trespassing in his city. Mr stark crossed his arms as Rogers frowned, confusing Peter ever so slightly. Had something happened? “We got news that this might be a hydra base, but…seems like you guys handled it” Rogers began, a small, seemingly uncomfortably forced smile on his face.
“Yeah. Whatever it is, we got it.” Frank scowled, still appearing to trying his best at glaring lazers through mr stark’s suit. The former man tilted his head, opening the mask of the suit. “How about their other locations? This probably isn’t their only one, you know” the man mumbled, rather condescending as he side eyed Frank. Matt spoke up, stepping a bit closer as he stood in a stance in between aggressive and defensive. “We’re not stupid, Stark. We were about to interrogate him-“ the man made a vague gesture at the unconscious guy, and Peter decided against mentioning that the vigilante was pointing about 7 feet in the wrong direction. “- and whatever other locations they have, if it’s in Hell’s Kitchen or anywhere near it, it’s not avengers business.” Matt growled, manners not unlike a territorial wolf. Or a pissed off house cat.
Mr stark raised an eyebrow, huffing at the criminal. “Like he’s going to tell you guys anything.” Rogers nodded in agreement, still smiling as awkwardly as a dad trying to explain to their kid that, yes of course honey, you’re doing great, but maybe put down the baseball bat before we get sued. “I think it’s best if we take it from here, seeing as we have more resources at our disposal-“ the captain began, but was cut off by Matt shushing him—something Peter hid a grin at, whilst frank just flat out started smirking. “He’s about to wake up.” Daredevil murmured, pulling the man up by his collar as he ‘looked’ in Peter and Frank’s direction.
“Spidey, do you want to ask the questions or should I?” The red vigilante asked, ignoring Frank’s protests with a glare—for a blind man, somehow Matt could glare so terrifyingly. Peter shrugged peering over Matt’s shoulder. “I don’t mind, you did the last one, right?” He asked, frowning as he tried to remember, vaguely registering the fact that Rogers and Mr Stark were exchanging hushed murmurs. Matt nodded curtly, and Peter hummed as he grabbed onto the now waking criminal’s arm, smiling at daredevil. “I’ll do it then!” He grinned, before blowing a raspberry at Frank, who just rolled his eyes and huffed.
“You accidentally kill one witness…” the man complained, earning another glare from Matt and a suspicious look from the 2 avengers. Peter diverted his attention back to the now fully conscious criminal, waving a hand in front of the man’s face. “Wakey wakey! It’s your lucky day, mister criminal!” He greeted cheerfully, loosely lifting the panicking man up by his collar. “Kid…” Mr stark began behind him, but got cut off by Peter waving at him dismissively.
“You see, mister criminal, today you not only get to meet the amazing spiderman, the devil of Hell’s Kitchen, and the punisher—who still needs a cool alias, but if you look over there, you can see Captain America and Iron man!” He rambled cheerfully, jerking the man’s head to the side to look at the avengers with a harsh hand, before shoving it back to look at him again. “Please…” the man whimpered, squirming uncomfortably as his eyes darted from Peter to the other vigilantes. “I’m just a cleaner- I didn’t do anything-“ Frank scoffed as the man spoke, about to say something, but Matt put a hand on the other vigilante’s arm. “Hm, not your usual cleaning job, isn’t it! I’ve never seen a janitor transfer humans before, but what do I know, huh?” Peter sighed, tightening his grip a bit.
”You see, mister criminal—whats your name, actually? Wait, nevermind, off topic, we were talking about your human trafficking tendencies!” He smiled sweetly with a tilt of his head, his free hand on his hip as he could hear the man’s heartbeat speed up. “Me and my friend Daredevil, we can hear when you’re lying! Isn’t that awesome? I also don’t think you would want to lie in the presence of America’s golden boy, but hey!” He pointed at Rogers over his shoulder, who was watching the interaction with a look of curiosity and disapproval. Mr stark seemed to make a move to mumble something into his comm, but one twitch of Frank’s hand on his gun stopped him, looking at the black cladded vigilante with obvious dislike.
”Please I don’t know anything-“ the criminal sobbed, Peter raising an eyebrow as Matt shook his head, hearing the same stutter of the heart as him. “Oops! That’s a lie, I’m sorry. Maybe I didn’t make myself clear, that’s my fault!” He tutted, dragging the criminal away from the wall he was being pressed again, and instead taking him to the edge of the building, easily tearing a hole into the metal fence. Mr stark made a strangled noise as Rogers frowned, but Peter ignored it. “Let’s try again. You’re gonna tell me everything you know about who you work for, or you’re gonna get a free skydiving experience.” He mumbled, face now closer to the criminal’s as he dug his nails into the man’s arm.
“They’ll kill me-“ the criminal began fearfully, making Peter roll his eyes as Frank snorted. “Nonsense! You don’t have to be worried about them right now, and tell you what, if you tell us everything we need, I’ll even get you a lawyer!” He heard Matt grumble behind him at the statement, and he chuckled. “Who do you work for.?” He asked harshly, shoving the man’s head through the hole he made in the fencing. “P- Spidey, don’t you think this is going too far-“ Mr stark began as Peter gave him an annoyed look. “Mr stark, can’t you see I’m busy? Double D almost never lets me interrogate, so don’t ruin it!” He huffed, grinning ever so slightly as the billionaire just shut up with a puzzled expression.
Meanwhile, the criminal let out a fearful laugh, eyes narrowed at Peter. “People say you’re the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man- but you’re just as bad as them, just as violent-“ the man spat, pointing accusingly at the vigilantes, earning a harsh shove and slap to the fingers. “I’m friendly to people who aren’t the scum of the earth, but to you… you should be glad that the avengers are here, and it’s me asking you questions.” He hissed, pushing the man through the hole a bit further, the criminal now hanging with his head over the edge. Matt stepped up next to him, Frank’s eyes still protectively flicking from them to the two superheroes, and back.
“Spider’s right. You’re going to listen to him, and if you don’t, either me or the punisher will be next in line to… convince you.” Daredevil growled, arms crossed as his face was pulled into a scowl. Peter smiled at the criminal, his mask conveying the way his eyes didn’t crinkle the way they should. “So, who do you work for.?” He asked again, seeing Rogers shake his head and put an arm in front of Mr Stark, who seemingly was about to try to interfere in his peripheral vision.
Huh, he thought, guess Cap’s not the golden boy we see in the PSA’s. “Is it the Irish? Fisk? Some new wannabe crime lord? The Russians? Hydra?” He rattled off, looking for any form of recognition on the criminal’s face.
“Its not- it’s n-not a big organisation-“ the criminal replied in a panic, seemingly telling the truth as Peter double checked if Matt had heard anything. The man shook his head, so peter continued. “Great job! See, now we’re getting somewhere. What are they called, then? Who runs it?” He continued cheerfully, grip tight around the man’s throat, but not cutting off any air supply.
“Don’t have a name- and we just call him the leader, I don’t know anything else-“ the criminal sniffled, and Peter almost felt bad for him. Almost. But he wasn’t telling the full truth, that was evident, and Matt agreed, looking at frank sideways, who stepped closer.
“Listen, I might not have super senses or any of that fuckery, but even I know bullshit when I hear it.” The man grumbled, now freeing his gun from his pocket. “These 2—they might not like killing. But if you don’t tell us who the piece of shit is that you’re smuggling kids for, I’m sure they’ll turn a blind eye.” Peter nodded in agreement, managing to not laugh at the blind joke as he heard Matt huff a quiet ‘asshole’.
The criminal whimpered as Peter held him further over the edge, arms flailing in a panic. “Okay okay! Please, we really don’t have a name- the leader, we don’t know much about him, but h-he’s usually hanging around Manhattan-“ the man yelped, telling the truth this time. Frank hummed, and Peter pulled the man a bit closer, still dangling over the edge. “That wasn’t so hard, hm?” He smiled, glancing back at Matt, who shrugged, and Mr Stark, who looked damn close to a heart attack.
“Well, Thats all ! Thank you for your cooperation” peter cooed, before throwing the man onto the ground, letting Frank kick the man’s skull once, rendering him unconscious. "What the hell? He helped you guys-" Mr stark began, exasperatedly looking at the criminal on the floor. Frank raised an unimpressed eyebrow, kicking the man again for good measure, before picking him up by the scruff of the neck.
"Be glad we didn't throw him off the goddamn roof." The older vigilante huffed, ignoring Matt's quiet 'blasphemy' whilst tying the guy up. "Mr castles right! If the building was less high I would've dropped him in a dumpster" Peter mused, looking through the hole in the fence before frowning. "We can't get like, sued for breaking this, right DD?" He asked, clumsily trying to wring the sides of metal together again. The aforementioned vigilante sighed, shaking his head. "No, kid, they don't have anyone to sue, don't they?" The man replied dryly, resting a hand on Peter's shoulder.
He shrugged, but sighed in relief. "Alright, that's good-" he began, before being cut off by Mr Stark. "Seriously!? What the fuck pe- spiderman!" The billionaire yelled angrily, meanwhile Rogers just shook his head with a resigned look. "Tony..." the captain murmured, but the other avenger ignored him.
"We need to talk somewhere private, because what the-" the man continued, Matt tensing up as his fists clenched, and Frank stepping forward with crossed arms. "Anything you gotta say to the kid, you can say to me 'nd red. We ain't leaving, and you sure as hell ain't leaving with him alone." The man stood in front of Peter protectively as he spoke, and the younger vigilante had to fight of an appreciative smile.
Tony looked like he was about to argue with the punisher, but gave up, instead just focusing on Peter. "Okay, fine, what the hell? This isn't 'neighbourhood stuff' and it isn't 'friendly' either!" Tony shouted frustratedly, worry evident on his face. Peter couldn't help but scoff, crossing his arms defensively. "Mr stark, this is the neighbourhood! It's New York, the neighbourhood isn't just full of muggings or cats in trees, it's full of criminal organisations, trafficking rings, ninja cults, and I protect that too!"
Steve made a curious face at the 'ninja cults thing, but couldn't get a word in before Tony started talking again, making the captain roll his eyes. "That- you're a kid, why are you dealing with this! You could get hurt, what if someone dies!?" Peter pulled a face, hands now on his hips as Matt seemed to get more and more agitated. "Mr stark, I've gotten hurt. I've seen people die. That's why I do what I do. That's why we do this. What else are we supposed to do? Stand on the sidelines? Because you and I both know very well that the Avengers don't care, they only step in if it's Aliens, world threathening, or one of HYDRA's pet projects." He spat, the wince Steve gave and the complicated face tony make not going unnoticed.
Tony made a frustrated noise, throwing his hands in the air, (Matt immediately took on a defensive stance at that, hands twitching around the billy clubs as Frank kept standing next to Peter with a glare), sighing. "I- alright, you're right, I guess, but still! Isn't this too big for you to handle?" The man mumbled with a hint of desperation, making Peter sigh. "Stark, I dont think you understand. If we don't do this, no one will. We have to protect this city, and yes Spider-Man is young, but he is also strong. Me and Frank would've already been dead if it hadn't been for the kid and his incredible determination." Matt spoke up, sounding more like he was in what Frank called 'lawyer mode' than daredevil mode, a hint of pride that made Peter's ears flush red evident in the man's voice.
Tony looked defeated, but crossed his arms. "...Still, it's unsafe. I know nobody can stop you from being Spider-Man, but this..." the billionaire trailed off looking at Steve for backup, who just shrugged. "Kids doing good, Tony. He's protecting his city, fighting for it. Sure, I don't agree with how, but Buck would have my head if I criticised someone for doing anything to protect the place they love." The captain mumbled the last part with a small smile, earning a glare from Tony.
"Okay, fine, but that doesn't explain why you were so... violent. Aren't you supposed to be the Friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man.?" Tony huffed with a raised eyebrow, earning a small snort from Frank. "Really kid, these are the people ya hang out with? Even Wade's smarter than him" the older vigilante murmured, earning a swat to the back from Matt. "Shut up, you'll summon him." He mumbled dryly, head twitching a bit as he probably tried to listen if deadpool would suddenly show up. It had happened before.
Peter just let out a frustrated groan, looking at his fellow vigilantes for help. "Mr stark... a criminal isn't gonna tell you everything just because you asked nicely. A mugger isn't going to stop because you told then it was bad. An abuser isn't going to suddenly have a change of heart because you asked, pretty please, with a cherry on top." He tried to explain, Matt backing him up with a curt nod. "The law system does a lot, but what it can't do, that's what we do." The man added, his glare stopping Frank from making a comment before he even opened his mouth.
"I..." Tony trailed off, biting his lip. "Alright, we'll- we'll talk about this later. The rest of the teams probably getting worried, we should go." The billionaire murmured, running a hand through his hair before closing the helmet. "See you soon, spidey." Steve waved, hand wrapping around the metal suit's shoulder. "Bye Queens." The suit took off, leaving Peter, Matt, and Frank on the roof.
"...Did they just fucking leave because he couldn't think of a goddamn argument." Frank said, mild confusion and annoyance in his tone. "Language, that's blasphemy." Was what Matt replied dryly, making Peter burst into laughter. "That was- did captain america really just- holy shit-" he wheezed, taking off his mask to breathe, grinning from ear to ear.
Matt sighed, and Frank smirked proudly as he patted Peter's back. "Good job kid, you told 'em off." Peter smiled, letting the other man ruffle his hair without too much protest as Matt spoke up. "Yeah, you did good. We should leave now, though. We can go back to my place, and pick up some churros on the way." The man hummed, smiling slightly as Peter pumped his fist in the air with a 'yes!'.
A while later, they were sitting on Matt’s horrendously ugly couch, Peter's legs resting on Frank and a part of Matt's laps as he ate his sixth churro—paid by their resident rich lawyer, of course. The two adults were definitely not cuddling with eachother, Matt's head resting on Frank's shoulder as he had an arm wrapped around his waist. Peter would make a 'get a room' comment if he wasn't literally in the man's house.
The news switched topics, suddenly talking about an official announcement the Avengers made. "-Stated, that from now on, they will be funding and occasionally patrolling around New York and it's nearing cities, to make sure that not just the 'Avengers level threats' would be taken care of. Furthermore-" the news reporter rambled on, but Peter had already tuned out, eyes wide as Frank grinned, swinging his free arm around him.
"Look at that kid, you even got to changing those superheroes' minds." He stated proudly, patting Peter's shoulder as he blinked. "Wh- i-" he stammered, turning slightly red as Matt sat up straight, smiling at him. "I'm proud of you, Pete. But tell them to stay the fuck away from Hell's Kitchen." He added the last part, smirking slightly as Peter laughed.
As Tony appeared on the screen, talking about how he'd realised that they needed to do more, a burst of pride swelled up in Peter's chest, grinning widely as the other two vigilantes smiled.
