The Silent Language of Grief: Book Two

Summary:

John survived, now what?

Bureaucracy, that's what.

And a lot of it before our intrepid heroes are allowed to return to Pegasus, where an unexpected surprise for more than one member of their team awaits.

Notes:

Well, it's finally here! The sequel you've all been waiting for!

Well, the first part of it, anway. I'll be honest, only half of this has been written, but as the first part came to such a nice conclusion that could technically stand alone as its own story, I've decided to publish.

This story is the 2nd part of an AU series. I would highly recommend you read The Silent Language of Grief: Book One first, otherwise a lot of this is not going to make much sense.

Many thanks to Jo for the beta.

Chapter 1: Recap

Chapter Text

What you should know:

1. Read Book One first, trust me.

**SPOILERS FOR BOOK ONE FOLLOW**

2. This story deviates from canon during the final episode of the series. Rather than stopping the Superhive and saving the Earth from an attack by the Wraith, the team failed, losing Teyla and Ronon in the process. In a further deviation from canon, it was John who flew the city back to Earth to defend her, not Carson. Arriving there, he destroyed all the Wraith Hives surrounding the planet. Unbeknownst to him at the time, the Wraith had started culling days prior, a fact the IOA and his commanding officer neglected to tell him. Grieving and bereft over the billions of lives lost at his hand, John Sheppard dropped off the face of the earth. For 20 years he stayed hidden until a Major with the newly formed US military tracked him down and tried to convince him to return. The government was finally ready to get the Stargate program up and running again and they wanted only one man for the job. John reluctantly returned to active duty and the remnants of his fractured team. What happened next, no one saw coming.

This fic is set directly after Book One and deals with the aftermath of those events. In this next chapter of the story, I’ll explore John’s long and arduous journey to overcome bureaucracy and finally return to Pegasus, where an unexpected surprise awaits for more than one member of his team.
