Jodd didn’t know when he first started having these thoughts about Jeng. He didn’t even really know Jeng until they, along with Sun and Junior, were the four left without a club. He at first held a bit of a grudge since Jeng got accepted into the reading club and he didn’t, but it quickly faded when all four of them started hanging out together. Then it became just the two of them.
Jodd assumed that Jeng was his friend just like Sun and Junior were his friends. He’s never had such close friends before. People usually thought he was too loud and annoying to actually put in the effort to get to know him. But Jeng did. And he wanted to hang out with Jodd. He helped hack the school computers so Jodd could play games on them. They followed people possessed by the goddess of the mole to help save Sun and Junior.
So they were friends. Then why did Jodd continue to think about Jeng? Spending time with Jeng, talking with Jeng, touching Jeng. All sorts of thoughts he had when he had crushes on girls. But he never had liked a boy before. Was this a crush?
It wasn’t like Jodd was homophobic or anything. Sun and Junior were dating, but anyone could have seen it coming from a mile away. They were just drawn to each other, and besides the mole goddess, Jodd was their number one shipper. But was Jodd drawn to Jeng in the same way their friends were? More importantly, was Jeng drawn to Jodd in that way. There was that moment by the tree repairing the mole goddess statue, but maybe Jodd’s memory was wrong. Maybe these thoughts and feelings he’d been having about Jeng warped his memory of that night.
