Chapter Text
It was peaceful, the morning commute started to stir outside Dandy's door as a new jolly static rang threw the Christmas cheer inside Garden View. Christmas Day was nothing to laugh at when it came to the Christmas toons and Dandy was sure that Bobette made sure everything was set up. This year was ecstatically different from every last Christmas, well except the Christmas Bobette was introduced- it's equally as exciting. Sara, the owner of Garden View, was introducing a new main toon- A COMPLETELY ORIGINAL ONE. Dandy was always ready to welcome new toons to the daycare, he doesn't quite remember the last time a new toon joined exactly.
Dandy was sure the last toon to join the toons was Toodles, and the a new main toon was nothing to laugh at! “DANDY, come on and wake up already! It's almost time to welcome the new main!” Shelly yelled from his door, knocking furiously to make sure the flower would wake from sleep. Dandy was already awake though, practically crawling with calmed joy to see who the new main would be. Only, he wanted to stay in bed for a few more moments- making his door burst with the fossil's loud knocks yet again. “YOU'RE GONNA BE LATE! COME ON!”
With that Dandy slugged from his bed, pulling on his wrinkled pajamas to meet a glowing shell at his door. Light bouncing off of her big smile, “Come on! Sara says everyone has to be there to start opening presents too!” Shelly yapped, yanking the flower’s arm just as he shut the bedroom’s door.
“Hold on, Shelly. Let me walk myself.” Dandy laughed as he playfully pulled back from Shelly's power driven grip. Decor of Christmas’ joy lined the halls, waking the flower's head in moments as the caramelized holiday air filled every breath. Behind Shelly's racing pace, Dandy found all the other toons wrapped around the big tree with happy smiles and lively conversation. Astro was the first one to joy Dandy's side as Vee regretfully followed with a distracted Sprout right behind them. The strawberry waving hurried goodbyes to the two baked goods chatting about the soon coming event.
“Dandy, are you ready for the new main?” Sprout smiled as his eyes looked back to the flower’s yawning movements.
“He sure doesn't look ready, you could have at least let Dandy change Shelly.” Astro joked towards the vibrating fossil. Sprout pushing a nuggy onto Shelly's head with a heap of giggles coming from the younger main only lightened the mood more. Every colorful light seemingly brightened from the laughter, drawing the favorite Christmas main over to the group.
“What do you think the new main is gonna be like?” Bobette smiled as she waved a small hello towards Vee’s ever so angry expression. Her red coloring glowing from every spot of light that bounced off of her, the black colored sled coal placing a contrast as Coal huddled close to her side.
Shelly popped up with more vibrating happiness, “I hope it someone that loves dinosaurs! Imagine all the conversations we would have, and we could have slumber parties that are dinosaur themed- or maybe it's another fossil like me! That would be such a dream!”
“That's some nice ideas,” Astro smiled kindly, “though, I hope the new toon is nice… mains should always be nice and different, right?” The moon thought, sweetly dreaming of what the new toon would be like quietly in his own head.
Vee glanced between all of them, her words fumbling on her tongue as the computer fidgeted around with her tail mic. Speaking up as she set the mic by her face, “Well, hopefully it's a toon that won't cause much of a headache.” She added, watching as all of them nodded hesitantly to the TV. Dandy didn't feel like finding out if Vee's comment was meant to be mean or just a random item to add to a list of requirements.
“You should really bring those headaches up to Sara again, I hope they don't get worse…” Sprout commented, being the most affected by Vee's words. Vee only waves the words of concern off with a roll of her eyes and a knowing nod. Silence filled their conversation, leaving them to hope for what they wanted the new main to be like.
“EVERYONE GATHER AROUND!” Sara called from the tree. Dandy watched as Toodles practically hoped beside Sara, plopping down into the nearest spot with Pebble munching on a paper wrapped bone. Dandy found himself between Bobbette and Rudie, both the Christmas toons bouncing at all the customized wrapping paper. Dandy could see the boxes made for him, the small flower designs wrapping around every fold with care, dressing the mysterious gift delicately in a soft white. Everyone was sitting, Sara waiting for the talkative noise to silence fully with a patient smile.
“Before we open the presence, there is a new toon joining us for more than just a holiday… if you look over at that door, I'm sure you'll see her very soon.” Sara announced. New sounds of excited whispered came from every corner of the new room, Bobette poked new words to Ginger as Rudie turned to join the silent conversation. Passed words of Christmas being the best holiday and buzzing descriptions of Rudie and Ginger thought the new toon would be like. The doors Sara directed them too opened a bit while Dandy stared intensely at who would walk through the doors.
More than just a holiday was something weird to put in, though maybe Sara just meant it to clarify the new toon not being a holiday main? His thoughts raced as the door seemed to inch open every hour, slowing time slower than Dandy had his waiting excitement for. The new toon was soon visible, the small child-like stature beside a very anxiously waiting room handler.
Pink and purple colored ears, with the familiar white face and red puffy bow. Brown cardboard chest attached every beaded arm and rough carded limbs, though her tail wagged back and forth, the new main happily waiting for a single worded reaction beyond her tearful expression. Though, Dandy seemed to be the first one to respond to the Easter toon’s presence still standing in the doorway. Between all the shocked faces and silent worries of what this meant, Dandy’s first word was loud against the silence: “Olive?”
