Work Header

The base of the music that matches my heart

Summary:

If you've been around the Glenwood discord you might remember that one crackfic about Ranger and Claire meeting at a concert back during their college years but never realising it.

This is that.

Notes:

That feeling when you were trying to write something else but keep thinking about something so you write that instead.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Too loud music blares across the field. Their head pounding to the sound of the base as Isaiah helps them to stand against the metal barriers around the field despite their protest.

“Stay here. I'll get you some water, alright?”

They give a non committal sound of agreement and Isaiah is off.

They brace against the barrier, leaning against it as they keep their eyes on the band performing.

Isaiah worried too much sometimes, they weren't that drunk they only tripped over themselves like… 2… 3 times max.

They know their limit!

They just… Needed to close their eyes a little so the lights wouldn't hurt their head too much.

“Claire I swear to god if you don't plant your ass down until I can get Knight I will tell Alexander about you dragging us out here myself!”

“But Beeeettthhh this is my favourite part!”

“No ifs, ands or buts! I'm finding Knight and we are getting your drunk ass home!”

They groaned looking to the side and seeing what the noise was all about.

About two arm lengths to their left two girls were arguing.

One clearly more drunk than the other, slumped on the ground against the barrier, the other standing over her with a look that was halfway between disappointment and acceptance.

“Wait here.” The one that was more vertical said before disappearing back into the crowd of bodies.

The grounded one groaned, resting her head back against the barrier, tilting their head towards their direction.

Their eyes met.

They swore their heart stopped.

Just for a moment.

Just long enough for their breath to come in shallow and get stuck in their throat.

“Heeyyyy.~” She purred, they almost lost the dirt beneath them.

“h-Hi.” They muttered, barely loud enough over the loud music.

“You got a nice ass.” She said, grinning wide enough to make the Cheshire cat jealous.

Their face burned a little.

“Forward, aren't you?” They said, amused and a little embarrassed.

“I like what I like.” She shrugged.

“Oh, so you like me? You don't even know me.” They weren't sure where that response came from. Must be the alcohol.

“I don't need to know you to steal a kiss, hot stuff.” She replied, completely unphased.

“Is that an invitation?” Yep, definitely the alcohol.

“If you want it to be.~” She said, smug grin contrasting with the flush that spread across her face and the tips of her ears. “Though you're gonna have to come down here… My legs won't work.”

They suppressed a laugh, stumbling on their own unsteady legs and dropping down to sit next to her.

Before they could react she was moving, climbing onto their lap, her hands on either side of their head, boxing them in against the barrier.

Their whole face burned, meeting her gaze. Heady and lazer focused on them.

“This is the part where you kiss me.~” She teased, bringing her lips closer.*

Something snapped inside them, restraint and reservations thrown to the wind as they wrapped one hand around her waist and another around the back of her head, dragging her into a heated kiss.

It felt so right.

The way her lips moved against theirs, the feeling as her tongue danced with theirs, all her little sounds and the way she moved and fit so perfectly against them.

If only they could stay like this forever.

“Hey! Hands off my sister!” Annnnnddd there goes that dream.

Someone was barreling towards them and they did not look too happy.

They pulled away, much to her evident disappointment before she was dragged to her feet by the same girl from before, only now accompanied by someone else who was apparently her sibling.

“Nooooo. Knight don't kill theeeemmm they're too cute to dieeeee.” She whined and the new face turned back to look at her, exasperated.

“Jesus, Beth I thought you'd said you'd watch her!” They growled at the other girl.

“I was looking for you, dumbass! Don't get lost on the other side of a gagglefuck of people next time!”

“Uhm…”

All parties involved turned to a freshly returned Isaiah holding a water bottle.

“What’s going on here?” Isaiah said, confused but also a little stern.

The other girl, who was now supporting her friend's weight, sighed.

“Look, my friend got a little… Very drunk. We're getting her home. You and your friend enjoy the concert.”

The trio began to move. There was an audible “NOOOOoooooooo” as they dragged their drunk friend away.

They sighed, looking disappointed themselves as they disappeared from sight.

Isaiah looked down at their still flabbergasted friend and raised an inquisitive eyebrow.

“Okay. I'm going to need to hear this story later, right now-” They sat down next to them, offering the ice cold water bottle. “Gonna need you to drink up, you little heartbreaker.”

They rolled their eyes. Accepting the water bottle and swallowing down the contents greedily.

Ranger woke up from their dream, blinking the haze out of their eyes as they pushed themselves up.

Claire was sleeping peacefully beside them and they took the time to admire her face, now that it was so at ease.

They wondered why that particular memory came back to them now of all times, but chose not to worry about it.

Leaning down, they placed a kiss on Claire's forehead.

Before they could react, Claire grabbed them by the collar and flipped them onto the mattress, putting her hands on either side of their head, boxing them in against the mattress.

“Someone's eager this morning.” They said with a smirk, one hand wrapping around her waist, the other gently cupping her cheek.

“Shut up and kiss me Hotshot.” She responded, smiling dangerously.

They couldn't help but comply. Their hand shifting from her cheek to the back of her head as they guided her into a kiss.
