Chapter Text

This is NOT a normal magical girl story. I’m not just some random girl in school living her life. I’m not the person who should have been picked for this life! I’m in a wheelchair and I’m severely anemic among other things! But here we are anyway.

This whole adventure started on a normal day, a normal day for me at least. I was getting my monthly blood transfusion at the children’s hospital. The nurses told me about a group of other sick kids who meet with each other as a “support group” and I immediately said no. I’ve been handling my disability alone for long enough I don’t need to go sit in a circle and talk about it, but my mom was a different story. She really wanted me to go to the group and that took a lot to convincing but I did eventually agree. My mom dropped me off at the hospital on some random Wednesday and the nurses lead me to a sad looking room in the west wing. The room had the classic decorations that you would expect in a children’s hospital. Way too childish for the fact that I’m a high schooler. I roll myself over to the snack table and grab an apple juice. When suddenly girl with purple hair walked up to me.

“I’m Sickel! What’s your name?” She says way too enthusiastic. Wait what was her name!?

“I’m Yami- wait. Your name is Sickel like… Sickel cell?”

“Yep!”

“Why would parents name their kid Sickel? That’s so mean.”

“Well that’s not my real name.”

“Then what is your real name?”

“It’s un important! What’s your disorder”

“Umm I mean… I’m not diagnosed with anything but Anemia but I probably have other problems-“

“Perfect we‘ll call you Anemia-Chan!”

“Wait why?” I say looking around at the rest of the group

“Because… we’re all magical girls!” Sickel says and I burst out laughing

“Magical girls!? Like sailor moon?”

“I know! I know it sounds crazy but it’s true!” Sickel says looking at a girl with pink hair

“Sickel is right. For some reason our disabilities give us magical powers. It’s kind of a push a pull. You win some you lose something.” The pink hair girl says sticking out her hand for me to shake

“And what’s your name?” I says leaning forward

“Arthritis”

God this is so weird I am not going to get used to calling these girls by their disorders.

God these girls are weird but I feel seen here at least. They aren’t talking down to me because I’m in a wheelchair. Suddenly I feel some blood drip my nose and wipe it… another nose bleed. Great.

“Wait you might have the same ability as me!” Sickel says running over to me and holding my shoulders.

“What?” I say looking at her

“I can turn my blood into weapons”

“Sickel! Back away from her!” Arthritis says “Also she is in a wheelchair so that might be her ability.”

“She could have both!” A girl with blond hair speaks

“Anyway! We should introduce the other girls!” Sickel says and three girls step forward. One with green hair, one with blue hair, and one with blonde hair.

“The one with green hair is Fibromyalgia. We call her Fibro for short!”Sickel says then points to the blue haired girl “This is blind!” She then points to the blonde haired girl “and last but not least this is Lupus!” All three of the girls wave at me. Wow this is a wide range of disabilities and it’s kinda nice to see. It’s more just the “normal” disabilities. All of them are uniquely different. Blind and Arthritis both use canes but different types of canes. Fibro uses a rollator and Lupus uses all sorts of aids.

“So Anemia-Chan.” Arthritis says. She’s clearly the leader. I mean she looks the most like a magical girl. The pink hair, the attitude it all makes sense.

“Yeah?”

“Are you officially joining us?” She says

“Umm I mean yeah! You guys are nice.” I say back

“Good.” She says and all the other girls nod

After the meeting I go home and lay in my bed. I open my phone and I have a bunch of friend requests from all the girls so I accept even though I’m confused on how they got my information, but I’m not to afraid I mean they don’t seem dangerous. The group chat I’m added to is called:

“Crippled magical girls!” Even though I joined them I still don’t fully believe that they are magical girls but… whatever helps you cope.

Arthritis: “Anemia-Chan! We need you now get out here!”

What?
