Chapter Text
Weiss felt the airship touch down in Beacon’s courtyard. She checked her scroll: 3:15 PM. Just enough time to start her search before orientation. The doors opened, and she stepped out, ignoring the sound of retching behind her as she entered the courtyard, immediately scanning for her quarry. She scanned the many students disembarking from the other airships, looking for a familiar face among them. Where are you…there! Right under one of the trees ringing the courtyard, she saw a familiar black bow bobbing up and down.
She took off at a jog, weaving her way through the crowd, until a blur of yellow blew past her. She lost her balance and felt someone fall on top of her. “Ugh, get off me!”
“Uh, sorry!”
Scrambling to her feet, Weiss looks for the girl in the bow, but she seems to have disappeared. Damn it. “Sorry?? Do you have any idea of what you just did?” Ignoring the girl who fell on top of her, Weiss seethed at her ruined chance to catch up to her target.
“I’m really, really sorry, whatever it is?”
“Now I have to find her all over again! Ugh, this is just typical!” If she wasn’t able to find her, Mom and Dad were going to be furious.
“Well, I-I…” Weiss finally took stock of the girl in front of her. She was a little shorter than her, and was wearing a black combat dress with a corset and red frills on the sleeves and skirt. She also wore a red cloak, and was currently trying to hide herself in its hood.
Weiss sighed. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to yell at you. I’ve just been looking for…someone for a while and I thought I had finally found them. Are you ok?”
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
As soon as Weiss heard her talk, she realized this girl was surprisingly young. “Aren’t you a little young to be here?”
This was obviously the wrong thing to say, as the girl pulled further into her cloak. “I, um…” The girl trailed off into a mumble.
“I’m sorry, what did you say? I couldn’t hear you.”
“I said I got moved ahead two years.”
“Oh!” She must be quite good if she got into Beacon that early. “That’s very impressive.”
After seeing the girl shrink even farther into her cloak (how was that even possible?), Weiss realized that she was obviously uncomfortable. Trying to salvage what she could of the conversation, she asked “What’s your name?”
“Ruby. Ruby Rose.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Ruby. Do you need help getting to orientation?”
“Yeah, actually, that would be great.”
Weiss began walking towards the building that she saw everyone else heading towards, and Ruby followed alongside her. After a couple moments of awkward silence, Ruby says “So…I got this thing,” and pulls out the largest mechanical weapon that Weiss has ever seen.
“Brothers, is that a scythe?”
“It’s also a customizable high-impact sniper rifle!”
Suddenly, Ruby’s jumping ahead two years makes more sense. “Impressive.”
“So, what’ve you got?”
“This is Myrtle Leaf.” Weiss pulls out her weapon, a small white revolver with ornate gold detailing. It also had a collapsed blade with a dust channel inside, allowing her to attack with various elemental effects.
“Ooh, pretty…” Ruby’s eyes went wide upon seeing it, and Weiss couldn’t help but chuckle at her enthusiasm.
Eventually, after wandering the campus for a bit, they found the building where everyone was meeting for orientation. As they entered the auditorium, Weiss said “It was nice meeting you, Ruby.”
“You too…um, I don’t think I ever got your name.”
“Oh, sorry. My name is Weiss. Weiss Belladonna.”
