"I have the definitive antidote."
Those words caused Conan to drop the phone and run quickly to Dr. Agasa's house.
"Is it real?"
He asked when he got there. Haibara confirmed it while holding the small pill between her thumb and index finger. He looked at it with fascination as if he couldn't believe it was in his fingers. He was anxious, as evidenced by the movement in his feet.
Hesitation, doubt, there was none of that in him, he wasn't going to stay, even if she asked him to. He wanted to go back to Ran, only to her. It was noticeable in his gaze.
"Are you staying or leaving?"
What did that question matter. She knew the answer.
But...
"I'll leave," he replied. Conan stopped looking at the pill to focus on her eyes.
"What are you talking about?"
"When you take the pill, I'll leave."
"Where to?"
"Far away."
"B-but why?" he asked, clearly shocked. "You have nowhere to go, this is your..."
"My home? The place I belong?" she questioned. "The only reason I stayed was because of you. You were the only reason, and now you're leaving with Ran."
"I'm not going to live in Alaska. Everything will be the same."
She knew he didn't even believe that himself.
"Take the antidote too," she added, and in doing so, she noticed the sadness in Ai's pupils.
"I only made one."
"Then make two!" he shouted, this was really driving him crazy. "You don't have to leave."
"If you want that, don't take the antidote."
"Don't ask me that," he said. "I have to go back to Ran..."
Those words hurt Haibara's heart.
"Then. Your decision is made."
He didn't answer, but the truth is, he had already answered. That's why she approached him with the pill in hand, faces in front of each other, when he thought she was going to give it to him.
Haibara put it in her own mouth, the detective's eyes dilated, even more so when she joined her mouth with his, opening it and playing with her tongue to pass the pill into his mouth.
When she did, she pulled away, he had swallowed it. Conan fell to his knees, feeling a burning sensation in his body from the effect of the pill and on his face from what had just happened.
"Haibara..."
He called out as he saw her leave, she took a few steps and pulled a suitcase from behind the couch.
"Be happy with Ran."
She said before glancing at him, before disappearing through the front door, before closing it. Kudo wanted to go after her, chase her, stop her, but he was transforming, the pain was unbearable.
He couldn't. He couldn't.
And as he continued to look at that closed door, he felt a strong pain in his chest, and it had nothing to do with him returning to his original body.
Now he knew the reason. He understood everything, and Shinichi felt very sorry for Haibara, for not being able to stay.
