Work Text:
“Let me say it this time!” Cheng Xiaoshi said, still convinced this was a good idea. Taking Lu Guang’s surly silence as approval, he began. “One – you have 12 hours.”
“Two – do everything I say, exactly as I say it.” He rubbed his hands together eagerly.
Lu Guang scowled. “Don’t make this weird.”
“Aww lighten up, I get now why you say it every time.” Cheng Xiaoshi let out a carefree laugh, then held out his hand. “Don’t worry, we’ve got this.”
Lu Guang was very worried. “Three. Past or future…” He squeezed his eyes shut.
“Let them be!”
*Clap*
Everything felt wrong.
Sights, sounds, smells, emotions, and movements were completely alien, and the first thing Lu Guang did in his client’s body was fall to the ground.
Panic drowned out pain. This hadn’t happened originally. And the man approaching him – who was he again? Lu Guang had made Cheng Xiaoshi recite a detailed timeline of events beforehand and found he remembered none of it.
Cheng Xiaoshi, what do I do? Cheng Xiaoshi?
Hang on. So this is how – woah. Woah!
“Are you alright?”
Just play it off, then we’ll be on track.
Easy enough.
Yet Lu Guang was stumped.
Cheng Xiaoshi felt cold metal on his cheek. He removed the compress and gratefully accepted the bottle of eye drops and soda.
“How do you do it?” he asked once the urge to claw his eyes out lessened. “It’s… a lot.” The blurred shape of the photo still made him shudder.
“I’m used to it,” Lu Guang replied coolly.
“You… I’m going to need to take better care of you from now on.” Cheng Xiaoshi sighed dramatically. “Still, I think we did good. And learned a lot.”
“Yeah.”
“Only… let’s not take any more jobs until our powers switch back.”
