Work Text:

Things kept getting worse between Kitty and her boyfriend Bradley.

On the surface, nothing had changed. The two still visited each other's houses, laughed at one another's unfunny jokes, and hung out together after school.

But Kitty always saw, out of the corner of her eye, how he'd glance at other girls during class.

One girl, in particular.

Gabriela.

Gabriela was gorgeous, there was no denying that. Kitty had overheard almost all of their classmates talk about her and how pretty she was at some point. She was smart too, it was a known fact that she aced whatever class she was in.

Kitty would never listen to her classmates talk about Gabriela for too long, though. It bothered her, even though she couldn't pinpoint why exactly.

So, after the sixty-fourth time Bradley glanced at Gabriela while talking to Kitty, she felt something snap in her.

That day after school, she told Bradley that she had something to do so they couldn't hang out. As the students poured out of the building, Kitty found her target in the crowd.

She walked over and tapped on her shoulder.

"Hi, Gabriela."

"Hey, uh, Kitty, right?"

Her tone was sweet, too sweet, like eating a chocolate cake with candy, ice cream and donuts on the side while drinking coffee with it to really drive home those heart problems. Speaking of, Kitty's heart was beating unreasonably fast under the other girl's gaze.

If this was any other person, Kitty would've thought they were really really nice.

But this was Gabriela.

"Yeah, can we talk?"

"Oh, sure."

The two sat down in a nearby park; kids playing and laughing, birds singing, the sun shining, parents yelling at the aforementioned kids to be careful.

It might as well have been a thunderstorm for Kitty.

"What did you want to talk about?" Gabriela turned those stupidly beautiful hazel eyes of hers towards Kitty.

"You know Brad, right?"

"Brad? Ah, Bradley from physics? Yeah, I do."

"He's my boyfriend."

"I know, I've seen you together. You two make such a cute couple."

This girl was going to be the death of Kitty.

How could she sound so genuine while obviously only acting kind? There had to be some witchcraft involved, because this made zero sense.

"He's mine."

Gabriela looked weirdly puzzled, and Kitty was having a hard time understanding what on Earth was so complicated.

This was the same girl scoring a perfect 100 in the most difficult maths exams, for fuck's sake.

"Keep your hands off of him."

"I never--"

Kitty didn't listen, instead she simply got up and left.

Brad--her Brad--still kept looking at Gabriela, the next day.

Kitty, amidst her silent fuming, noticed something different about her. Before, Kitty had heard that Gabriela was quite talkative, and this was proven by what she'd seen in class, but today, she seemed quieter. Like something was on her mind. Like something was bugging her.

She shrugged it off, telling herself that she deserved it. That her friends would run to her to cheer her up anyways. That there was no need for her to care.

Fast forward three weeks later, and Kitty was packing her bag to go stay at Brad's house for a few days. She'd do that whenever his parents were out of town, to keep him company. She paused when she heard the notification sound of her phone.

[Brad💞💞]

Kitty threw her phone on the bed, tears rolling down her face.

She hated Bradley. She hated how he was making her feel. But way beyond that, she hated Gabriela. So fucking much. She genuinely wished nothing but suffering for the other girl, even though a more logical part of her knew that she was technically innocent.

No.

This was her fault, this was entirely her fault.

Kitty's anger hadn't subsided by the next day. So, when she saw Gabriela walking in the hallways alone, she attacked.

Not like, say, a tiger, for example. More like a parasitic wasp. Discreet, slow, calm on the surface while preparing for the storm on the horizon.

She tapped her shoulder, the way she had three weeks ago.

"Hey-- you alright, Kitty?"

"Yeah, yeah. Come with me."

"I-- okay."

Kitty led Gabriela to an empty classroom to not make a scene in front of the many other students. As soon as they entered, she locked the door behind her.

Noticing this, Gabriela started to back away.

"Is-- is everything--"

"You took him." Kitty stepped closer.

"I-- I--"

"You stole him."

"No-- I'm--" Gabriela's back hit the cold wall, and she flinched.

"You did this to me." Kitty took one last step, cornering the other girl.

"I-- I-- I didn't--"

"Shut up."

Gabriela's survival instincts seemed to kick in as she began trying to push Kitty away from her, still muttering incoherent words. It almost seemed like it could work for a few seconds, until Kitty swiftly grabbed her wrists and pinned them above her head on the wall.

"You did this..." Kitty whispered, leaning in close enough to hear Gabriela's stuttering breath and to see the blush creeping across her cheeks.

"Kitty," Gabriela breathed, looking up at the slightly taller girl.

"But you know what?" Kitty continued as if she hadn't heard her. "You can have him. An asshole for a bitch. Perfect combo."

"Kitty," she repeated, her ears pink. "I-- I don't even like men..."

That caught her off guard.

"What?"

"I don't-- I don't want Bradley."

"Then why did you--"

Right.

She hadn't done anything besides exist.

Kitty went quiet, her eyes leaving Gabriela's face, though she kept her pinned between the wall and her body.

"Kit--"

"You're shaking."

"What?"

Kitty's grip tightened a little, her free hand coming up to Gabriela's chin.

"I said you're shaking."

"Ye--yeah..."

"You said you don't like men, right?"

"Yeah."

"How about women?"

At that, Gabriela started looking more like a tomato than a person. That gained a chuckle from Kitty.

"I understand why everyone's obsessed with you," she muttered, brushing her thumb across her cheek, "you're adorable."

Gabriela could only let out a shaky exhale in response.

"But I'd bet I'm the only person who's seen you like this. Would I be wrong?"

"I-- I-- uhm-- it--"

Kitty's grip tightened again.

"Answer properly, dear."

"N-- n-- no, no, you-- you're right."

"You are ethereal, Ella," Kitty whispered, feeling Gabriela shiver against her chest at the nickname. "I could keep you locked in here forever. You'd like that, wouldn't you?"

"Kitty," Gabriela uttered, "I-- is this-- a good time to-- to say... uhm..."

"Spit it, darling."

"O-- okay, just, give me a second. Is-- I-- I've... I've had a crush on-- on you since the start of the-- the school year."

"Really?"

"Ye-- yeah."

"Is that why we share so many classes? Did you stalk me to see which ones I'd take?"

"No-- no, no, I-- I would never do-- do that. It's--"

"It's just evidence that we're incredibly compatible then."

At that, Gabriela's face turned as red as Amalthea, one of Jupiter's moons and the third fastest moon in the Solar System.

Kitty leaned in a bit closer, her breath brushing against Gabriela's skin softly.

"What would you do," she said, tilting the other girl's face up, "if I kissed you right now?"

"Wh--what?"

"You heard me."

"..."

"No response? Hm, I might need to try it then."

Before Gabriela could respond, Kitty closed the gap between them, earning a surprised whimper from Gabriela that she stole right away. It started gentle, with Kitty not wanting to scare Gabriela immediately, until she bit down on her bottom lip, getting a small moan in response. Kitty pushed her tongue into the other girl's mouth, licking around as Gabriela trembled under her grip, letting out little sounds that were sweet like having just the right amount of sweet foods in one sitting instead of too much or too little.

The two stayed in the classroom even after the kiss broke, both breathing heavily, Gabriela avoiding Kitty's eyes the way a reverse moth might avoid light.

"You-- you..."

"You were too cute, I couldn't help myself."

Gabriela--the untouchable girl that everyone wanted but no one could get--was now stuttering and shaking all because of Kitty, and it made her feel a sense of protectiveness over her.

She slowly let go of Gabriela's wrists and took a tiny step back, watching as Gabriela fixed her clothes and played with her hair a little as if she had no idea how to properly use her hands.

It was so adorable.

A few minutes later, after Gabriela managed to collect herself and Kitty let her, the former broke the silence.

"There's-- I-- I have class, I-- we should, uhm, go."

And against Kitty's desire to just say fuck classes, I'd rather study you all day and night, she knew Gabriela had a point.

So, the two walked out quietly, Gabriela trying her best to act normal and Kitty simply... being unbothered like she hadn't just kissed the girl that she wanted to murder mere hours ago.

Duality of man, she supposed.

As she walked a step behind Gabriela amidst the crowd, she heard a familiar voice.

"Gabriela! Hey, Gabby!"

Watching a grimace form on Gabriela's face at the nickname gave Kitty immense satisfaction, the kind that Brad had never given and could never give her-- or anyone, for that matter.

"Yeah?"

Brad approached, eyes locked on Gabriela, not seeing Kitty right there behind her.

"I was thinking, you know, we could get a drink sometime, maybe?"

Gabriela opened her mouth to respond, but before she could, Kitty grabbed her arm--gentle enough to not hurt her, but forceful enough to prove a point to Bradley--and pulled her behind herself.

"She came with me, and she will leave with me, Bradley. Back off."
