“Guys, in case you’ve already forgotten, Pacifica Northwest is the worst,” he said as the doorbell rang. He got up to answer the door but continued talking. “And that’s not just jealousy talking. I’d say that to her face.”

Chapter 1: i don’t need you

Chapter Text

It was an unbelievably hot July morning in Gravity Falls, Oregon. Dipper Pines sat at the desk in the room that he and his twin sister, Mabel, shared.

With the fan blaring in his face, the music from his phone playing, and the lack of family bothering him, he found it the perfect time to write in his journal.

July 25th-

It’s been almost two months since Mabel and I arrived in Gravity Falls. A lot has happened since then, and a lot more is bound to happen.

I can’t believe I ever thought that Mom and Dad sending us to live here with Stan for the summer would be insufferable. I hate to admit it, but this might be the best decision they could’ve made for us. I think we both prefer to be here than spend our summer dealing with them.

This entire town gives me a mixture of stress and curiosity. I’m learning so much from Gravity Falls and the journal and I know we’re one step closer to finding the author now that we have McGucket on our side. Ever since we helped him gain some of his memories, he’s been eager to return the favor by helping us with some of the items the author left behind in the bunker. Since he’s been so involved, it’s given me more time to focus on the smaller mysteries of the town. Mabel says I should use this time to try to fix my sleep schedule but sleep is for the weak. Plus I feel like my dark circles are kind of charming and honestly I think they make me look more attractive-

“YO, DIP! COME DOWNSTAIRS AND WATCH THIS HILARIOUS NEWS STORY WITH US!” Mabel called from downstairs, interrupting his writing.

Dipper sighed, putting down his pen and closed the journal. Mabel was downstairs having a “girl’s night” with her new best friends, Candy and Grenda. If she was calling him downstairs to see what was going on, it must’ve been good.

“COMING!” He called back as he put his signature pine tree hat on and headed down the stairs.

When he made his way to the living room, he noticed Mabel, Candy, and Grenda watching the TV in awe. Mabel sat on the recliner while Candy and Grenda sat on the floor near her.

“Uh… hey guys,” he said, feeling as if he was interrupting a moment between them and the TV. “What are we watching?”

“Take a look,” Mabel said, motioning for him to sit with her on the recliner.

Mabel was wearing one of her signature sweaters (yellow with red trees on the sleeves and a big brown moose head on the front), a simple black tennis skirt, and mismatched socks. Her shoulder length hair was tied back with a ribbon she probably found in her craft supplies. He noticed she was wearing the necklace with their birthstone on it and her bracelet she made that read “twin 1” on it. Dipper wore the matching set to both of those.

Dipper walked over to the recliner and sat on the arm rest. He noticed that the news station had live footage of the outside of the Northwest Manor. There was a swarm of people outside the gates, looking as if they’d been there for days.

“Why am I watching the Northwest’s mansion?” He asked, more confused than he was before.

“It’s the Gravity Falls news station’s countdown to the Northwest Fest! Where have you been, Dipper?” Candy turned around briefly to look at him in shock.

“This is like the biggest event of the summer!” Grenda almost yelled, not even bothering to look back at the confused twins.

“Not of the summer, of the YEAR!”

Dipper and Mabel glanced at each other.

“This can’t be real,” Dipper whispered to her in disbelief.

“I know! All this for Pacifica’s family? I mean, I knew they were the IT family in Gravity Falls, but this is a little much,” Mabel whispered back.

They watched as Toby Determined interviewed different citizens of the town who were camping out in front of the manor.

“Mabel, I’m surprised you’re not interested in this! Do you know how many princes and male celebrities show up to this thing?” Candy asked, knowing it would get her attention.

Suddenly Mabel perked up and leaned closer to the girls. “Woah woah woah, princes? Nobody told me that ROYALTY attended this stupid event!”

“Hey, the Northwest Fest isn’t stupid. I hate Pacifica Northwest as much as you guys, but the Northwest Fest is one of the only things we look forward to, and the townspeople don’t even get to go!” Grenda argued.

“Wait, seriously? The Northwest’s have this huge gala and don’t even allow-” Dipper started but realized what he was shocked by. “Y’know what, that checks out.”

The girls and Dipper continued to watch the live feed. The crowd that gathered around the Northwest’s Manor excitedly waited outside for seemingly days for a glimpse at seeing the inside of the manor through a door or a window. Dipper thought it was almost pathetic how much the town looked forward to an event they could watch from the outside and the television.

“This is one of the only times I’ll ever say I’m jealous of Pacifica Northwest,” Mabel murmured as she continued to watch the feed.  Candy and Grenda agreed with her and began telling her about the perks you’d get for attending. Dipper could’ve sworn there was some talk about a quail in a gift basket.

Dipper rolled his eyes and angrily sighed at the mention of Pacifica Northwest. He hated her. She was stuck up, privileged, and just a genuinely awful person. Not to mention the fact that her family was a bunch of frauds.

“Guys, in case you’ve already forgotten, Pacifica Northwest is the worst,” he said as the doorbell rang. He got up to answer the door but continued talking. “And that’s not just jealousy talking. I’d say that to her face.”

He swung the door open to see none other than Pacifica Northwest standing on their porch.

“I need your help.”

“You’re the worst,” he simply said and slammed the door.
