Work Text:
Guy's phone buzzes. "Get that for me, will you?" he calls from his seat. Clark grabs it off the table, face screwing up with confusion and then, just as quickly, disgust.
"Who is Mikey, and why do they want you to rail them into next Tuesday?"
Guy scrambles to his feet, rapidly reddening as he snatches his device from out of Clark's grasp. "Jesus, Clark, I said get it for me, not invade my privacy."
"It was open!" Clark protests. "I didn't mean to—" He trails off. Guy is back in his armchair, eyes intent on his screen as he tries and fails to suppress a smile.
Clark rolls his eyes.
"What up, Supes?"
Clark squints. "Supes?"
Guy's face falls. "Don't tell me you don't get it."
Before Clark can retort, Mr. Terrific interjects. He's the only one of the Justice Gang who hasn't revealed their identity to him, but eventually, it seemed awkward to still have the title in front of his name, so Clark began calling him just Terrific in his head.
"He gets it. He just hates it because it's stupid, as I've told you numerous times before. Your naming skills need work," Terrific says, shaking his head at Guy.
He clutches his chest as if he's been shot. "I don't remember you arguing about the Justice Gang."
Clark frowns, because he very much does remember Terrific arguing about the Justice Gang. He opens his mouth to speak, but then Terrific shoves at Guy's shoulder and they dive into another topic of conversation.
Kendra snorts quietly to herself, ignoring Clark when he glances to her for an explanation.
"Hey, Clark?"
Clark looks up. "What?"
"Which looks better?" Guy holds up two seemingly identical ties to his white dress shirt.
Clark blinks. "They're the same."
Guy gasps theatrically. "Navy and black are not the same."
"Uh, navy, then?" Clark shrugs.
"I'll ask Kendra." Guy sniffs, storming out.
She must do something right, because Guy leaves the house humming Sinatra, coat in his hands.
"What was so serious?" Clark asks. "Some sort of anniversary?"
Kendra stifles a laugh. "Something like that."
Clark doesn't see the Justice Gang again until they swoop in to help him save Metropolis from a large, laser-shooting octopus. The mission goes surprisingly well, except for the creature aiming for Terrific and Guy jumping in the way, getting hit in the chest.
Terrific takes the monster out in under five minutes, and then they're all flying to the nearest hospital, Terrific holding Guy's body and fuming as Kendra and Metamorpho stay solemn. Clark is just gaining hope when they get to the hospital. His mood drops almost immediately with the information that only family will be allowed to stay with Guy in his room.
Terrific is quick with his lie. "I'm family," he declares smoothly. "We're married." The nurse buys it completely, escorting Terrific through the hospital. The lengths people go to for their best friends are really sweet, Clark thinks.
"He's out of surgery,' a nurse informs them after what seems like forever. "You can go see him now."
When they reach the room, Clark feels like he's intruding on a private moment. Terrific is leaning over Guy, and the latter is cupping his jaw, looking at him fondly. Still, Clark steps forward.
"I'm so glad you're okay!" he says, and Guy grins at him. "Of course I'm okay! I'm the Green Lantern."
Terrific makes a face. "You idiot," he scolds. "I can't believe you tried to fucking die for me."
"I didn't, though." Guy says, but Terrific is entirely unamused. "If you hadn't just almost died, I would hit you right now."
Guy rolls his eyes. "You would never. You love me."
Terrific shakes his head. "And I curse it every day." Then he grips Guy's jaw and tugs him close, connecting their lips in the sweetest kiss Clark has ever seen. Then, he registers what he is seeing and blinks rapidly.
They kiss for such a long time that Clark has to look away in fear of forever being scarred. Terrific's the one to pull back, but all he does is just stare at Guy, smiling like he knows something Guy doesn't. Guy doesn't miss the way Terrific's gaze slides to rest on his mouth. He revels in the attention. "Miss my lips already?"
Terrific barks out a laugh. "Sure." Then he ducks forward, and Clark hears Guy's breath catch as Terrific brushes a thumb across his bottom lip. "You got some…lipstick." Then he turns and marches away.
Guy's mouth drops open. "It's your lipstick, Michael. Holt! Come back here right now!"
Clark gapes at them. So that's Terrific's name. Michael. Suddenly, everything makes sense.
Kendra bursts out laughing. "You seriously didn't know?" Clark blushes furiously red. She's still giggling when they leave.
