Work Text:
Of all the people he left behind when the team went their separate ways, Hamid didn't expect to miss Zolf the most. He'd managed without him before.
He couldn't see Zolf in person, but he could read some of the books Zolf loved and had wanted him to try. He put aside his scepticism and then devoured every Harrison Cambell novel he could get his hands on.
When he finally remembered Zolf had left some behind with Chaucer, Hamid found himself digging through rubble just to get to them, thankfully unharmed. He reverently cleared the dust from the cover and cracked the book open with quiet awe. This was better than any old copy - Zolf had thumbed these pages himself.
Later, hugging the book to his chest to help him drift off to sleep, Hamid admitted to himself he might be a little far gone.
