Musical Wars

Summary:

Dream has known for a long time that the most annoying person on the server, the enemy to his control, has to be Tommyinnit. Lucky for him, Tommy constantly forms strong attachments, something that Dream has long since stopped doing. Dream knows that Tommy can easily be controlled by one thing: the discs. Dream already has two of them from trading L'manberg it's independence, so the only thing he needs is... wait. Why are there so many music discs? And why are they all over the server?

Aka Dream wants to manipulate Tommy, but first he needs to do a massive series of side quests to retrieve all thirteen of Tommy's discs from the various server members that have them.

Aka I thought, "Why can Dream control Tommy with only two discs? He should need all of them!" And Dream suffers.

Notes:

This is going to be a very fun set of little short chapters in which dream has to side quest t get the discs. Enjoy.

Chapter Text

Dream looked down at the two discs in his hands, some of the most powerful objects for controlling people on the entire server. Although he had needed to give L’manburg their independence for them, leading to all of the chaos of the war with Marburg, he had to admit, it would be worth it to be able to control the most chaotic person in the server: Tommy. Dream smiled as he stored them in his inventory, and turned to walk out of his secret base. As he walked through the exit, he heard someone clearing their throat. Dream turned to see Punz, leaning against a tree.

“What are you doing, Dream? You seem excited.”

Dream grinned at the mercenary.

“I am, Punz. You know what I’ve been doing these last few months, trying to get and maintain control over the server. Today, I’m finally going to use Tommy’s discs and eliminate the most annoying nuisance on the server.”

Punz nodded, then looked at Dream curiously.

“Dream, with your plan for controlling the server to maintain peace, you need everyone’s most important objects, right?”

Dream nodded.

“Yes. You knew this, Punz.”

He held up a hand.

“And for Tommy, it’s his discs, right?”

“Obviously.”

“How did you get all thirteen?”

Dream froze.

“Thirteen?”

Punz nodded.

“Yeah. Tommy’s attachment is his disc collection. The collection. Not just two of them.”

“...huh. Do you know where Tommy’s discs are?”

Punz sighed.

“I don’t know all of them, but if you want a start, I think that he traded Purpled Chirp. You might be able to convince him to trade it to you for something.”

Dream nodded, eyes narrowing. Purpled. The mercenary was one of the younger members of the server, but also one of the most shrewd when it came to making deals. It makes sense that he would have gotten Tommy to trade him.

“Thank you, Punz. I’m going to go speak to Purpled now.”

The blonde-haired mercenary nodded as Dream turned to leave.

“Good luck, Dream.”

Dream set off for Purpled’s UFO, pulling a map out of his inventory as he walked. It had been a little while since he had come close to spawn, and he wanted to make sure that he went the right way. Finally, after a long walk, he caught sight of the floating structure. Dream walked up to the elevator, but before he could step into it, a crossbow bolt hit the ground in front of his feet, showing that the ship’s owner had noticed him. Dream halted and looked up.

“Hello there, Purpled.”

The boy glared at him from where he was sitting on the ring of the UFO.

“Leave. Now.”

Dream raised his hands.

“Come on Purpled, I just want to talk!”

“I have no interest in talking to you.”

“I’ll pay.”

Purpled paused from where he was loading a second bolt into his crossbow. He looked like he was considering something.

“Fine. You can come up. But if you waste my time, there's no guarantee that I won’t shoot you anyways.”

“Even if I want to talk about a job?”

Purpled stared at him with his cold, violet eyes.

“We can talk more in the UFO.”

Dream smiled as the alien teen disappeared into his ship. With Purpled’s desire for money, it was almost too easy to convince him to do whatever he wanted. Although Dream would refrain from manipulating Purpled too much, out of respect for Punz. Although his ally did do an excellent job of eliminating all of his attachments, he did still care for his little brother. As Dream stepped into the ship, he thought about what he would say to convince Purpled to hand over the disc.

“So, what did you want, Dream? Considering the fact that we aren’t friends, I’m guessing that you want to hire me for something. You should know that I won’t do any job that hurts people that I care about.”

Predictable as always, the teen immediately started talking about his attachments. Dream smiled in what he thought was a friendly manner and raised his hands placatingly  at the boy.

“Now, Purpled, I wouldn’t ask you to hurt someone you care about. I just have something that I want to make a deal with you for!”

Purpled snorted at the first part of Dream’s statement, but grew serious as soon as he mentioned making a deal.

“What do you want?”

Dream smiled.

“I heard from a certain someone that Tommy gave you one of his discs. Chirp, was it?”

Purpled nodded, looking slightly confused.

“Yes, he did. He hired me for a job, but he couldn’t pay me the price it costed, so I took one of his discs instead. Why?”

“I want it.”

Purpled raised an eyebrow.

“That’s it? That simple? You don’t want me to fight for you, or kill anyone?”

Dream smiled at Purpled again.

“Purpled, let’s be honest. You could tell that I came to you for a reason. If I wanted someone killed, I would have hired Punz. I want the disc that you have.”

Purpled nodded as though considering something.

“Two blocks of netherite.”

“What?”

Dream stared at Purpled as though he was insane.

“Two blocks of netherite. That’s what the disc will cost you.”

"That's… that’s a lot of money, Purpled.”

“I know.”

“What makes you think I won't just go to someone else to get a different copy of Chirp for cheaper?”

It was Purpled’s turn to smirk.

“Because you came to me in the first place. You don’t want any copy of Chirp, you want Tommy’s Chirp. Which, while it’s true that you might be able to get another copy of Chirp for much cheaper, this is the only version of Tommy’s Chirp on the server.”

“Why would you think that I even want Tommy’s disc-”

“I’m not stupid, Dream. I know that you traded L’manburg for his Mellohi and cat. To be honest, I don’t care why you want Tommy’s things. I care about the fact that I have something that you want, and you can’t get it from anywhere else.”

Dream ground his teeth. Maybe Purpled was smarter than he had been giving him credit for.

“One block of netherite.”

“Two blocks. This isn’t up for negotiation.”

“A block and a half.”

“You know, I like music discs, Dream. I could just keep it and I’d be fine.”

“A block and five ingots.”

“A block six.”

“Fine!”

Purpled’s smirk as he stuck out his hand made Dream realize just how much he had overpaid for the disc. However he stuck out his hand to shake with Purpled and pushed the anger down. It would all be worth it to control Tommy.

“Do you have an ender chest?”

Purpled pointed to one of the walls where a black box stood. Dream walked over to it and opened it, counting out one, two, three, fifteen netherite ingots. Dream handed them over to Purpled, scowling. Purpled smiled and retrieved a familiar disc from his inventory, smiling as he spun it on his finger. He tossed it to Dream.

“A pleasure doing business with you for once, Dream.”

Dream ignored him as he placed the disc in his inventory, right next to Mellohi. He then turned to leave the UFO via the elevator, but paused in front of the exit.

“Would you happen to know where Tommy’s other discs are?”

“That’ll be two diamonds.”

Dream scowled and hurled two of the crystals directly at Purpled’s head. Purpled smiled and caught them easily.

“I heard that he traded Sam Blocks for something. I dunno what, but Sam has at least one disc.”

Dream nodded at the probably overpriced information that Purpled had given him. Dream left the UFO significantly poorer than he had been when he had entered, but equipped with one more disc and the location of the fourth. Now to find Sam…

Notes:

Purpled can tell what Dream is trying to do, Punz basically told him, but he doesn't actually care. He just wants money.
