Work Text:
Sol wasn’t afraid of going upstairs with Dr. Moss. They knew it would be pointless. There’s no point fearing something if you can’t do anything against it. If Dr. Moss wanted them upstairs, then they would be upstairs. There was nothing they could do against it, they could fight as much as they wanted, nothing would change.
The rest of the experiments have said Dr. Moss isn’t the worst doctor to have experimenting on you, the worst would be Dr. Lock. The experiments Dr. Moss takes usually turns into animal hybrids, so Sol must be turning into an animal today. Their body is about to be changed forever.
They don’t know what animal they are changing into, it could be anything really. Hopefully this won't hurt too bad. The needle enters their vein easily, injecting some unknown animal DNA into their bloodstream. Dr. Moss says Sol needs to go into solitary for 24 hours, the change must be dangerous.
The cell is white and padded, there is a chair in the middle and not much else. Sol immediately gains a headache within the first hour. This headache is the worst pain they’ve ever experienced, and they’ve felt a lot of pain before. Sol is reduced to grunts and short screams, the pain is stopping them from even thinking.
They pass out. They couldn’t handle it anymore.
When they come to, the ears on the side of their head are gone and in their place are fox ears on top of their head. The ears swivel and twitch at every small noise, it’s very overwhelming. Sol is not used to hearing this much, especially not in this much detail. They can hear people’s footsteps even though they are not near, they can even hear the small bugs underneath the building.
Sol is okay with turning into a fox, foxes are their favorite animal after all. Well, maybe not okay with it. If they had the choice, they wouldn’t want to do this at all. They don’t want their body to change at all. What if their parents couldn’t recognize them like this? What if their parents thought their body was weird now and wouldn’t take them back even if Sol was better now?
They have to be okay with it though, otherwise they would’ve had a breakdown and that wouldn’t fix anything. It would just make everything worse. They couldn’t handle panicking and their body changing at the same time. Sol doesn’t know how much time has passed since their first change, it’s hard to tell time in this place. They assume it’s been a couple of hours at least.
Sol’s eyesight has changed. The colors in their right eye are now somewhat muted. They only see blues, yellows, and grays in their right eye. They hadn’t even realized when that had happened. Can they not even recognize their own body changing anymore? They run their tongue over their teeth, checking to see if anything changed there.
Their canines are slightly sharper than before. Sol opens their mouth, sticks a finger in their mouth and accidentally cuts themself on their own teeth. They lick the blood off, absentmindedly. These are actually sharper than they thought. Jesus, how much is going to change about them? They hadn’t even realized their eyes had changed, and now their teeth are changing too? Is any part of them going to be the same after this? This is a lot. Sol feels like there's still more to come. They are right.
A pain starts in their lower back, like something is trying to push out of their skin. This feels worse than the ears, Sol might pass out again. Their breathing quickens, their hands are sweaty and their ears are pinned back in pain. They squeeze their eyes close, praying for this to be over with already. They try to hold themself in comfort but accidentally scratch themself instead.
There are black claws on their hands now. Of course this had to happen at the same time as the back pain. They clasp their hands together, ignoring the pain caused by themself, they need this comfort. Sol finally passes out, it is better than toughing out the pain.
Rapidly blinking their eyes open, Sol immediately sees a tail. Their tail? The tail is wrapped around their waist, like it was trying to comfort them when they passed out. It kind of looks nice? They don’t know, they just hope this is the last change. They don’t think they could handle much more.
Their ears twitch towards footsteps approaching their cell, maybe it’s someone coming to let them out? Have 24 hours passed already? It doesn’t feel like it. The door opens and Dr. Moss steps in, informing Sol that their transformation should be over with and they are free to go. She also tells Sol to inform her of any changes to them. Sol nods and runs away back to their room.
They want to go to bed. They are tired.
