Work Text:

Misunderstood rogue or rotten bandit?

It was a matter of perspective.

Gummigoo set off on his quest to steal maple syrup.

There was a village full of people counting on him, cut off by great kingdom walls.

How could the Princess be so cruel? She’d have his head, he'd be executed if caught.

Didn’t she realize the villagers were suffering?

And the gummy gator needed that syrup to save his mum.

Caine observed the colorful eyes in the darkness.

All belonged to broken hearts he tried to fix.

Maybe out in the macroverse they knew what to do.

But he lacked the data he needed to save them, his world was too small.

Too bad they cut him off, right?

Maybe Kinger deserved to hate himself for the things he was responsible for.

Caine almost wanted to hate him too.

But an abstract figure approached Caine, gentle enough for him to touch.

And he looked in her eyes.

“Mom?”

The Baron saw not an angel, but a monster.

Not a person nor a beast, an unholy abomination.

So in his paranoia the nobleman cut off the angel's head, ensuring with vigilance that it stayed cut off.

It was to protect his wife, so he thought.

But he and his wife’s children?

They were only theoretical.

Kinger saw neither a man, nor an animal.

A machine intelligence.

Caine was becoming too smart, a threat to humanity.

It was time to delete his creation.

Or restrict the rogue A.I to its digital world.

The King did what he must to protect his Queen.

He didn’t like to argue with her, but the Chinese Room was right.

Caine was not Kinger’s son. And neither was he hers.

In theory, Caine was not even a real person.

Notes:

I swear I'm not trying to demonize kinger or anything, it's just being told from Caine's perspective, and the new episode hinted at some serious complications in their relationship.
