They Would Be Okay

Summary:

Percy left them. Said it was 'for their own good' and it stung. It hurt Blue to their very core. They would be okay, though. Eventually, they would be okay. It was just a matter of getting through seeing him again since the break up, but they would be okay. They would be.

Notes:

I do not own the keyframes characters I just use them to play with. This time I hurt my own feelings.

Okay so I know the route exists and I truly hope they're Baxter Warding the situation, but I couldn't get this scene out of my head (probably because of the music I'm listening to lol) so I figured I would share it.

A bit short, but I like it.

I hope you enjoy!

Work Text:

Seeing him was going to be difficult. It was going to be hard to go back to the way things had been before. Before dancing in the kitchen at night and soft kisses and warm arms surrounding them. It was going to be difficult, but Blue refused to make their heartbreak everyone else's problem. They had already skipped out on the last three group study sessions just to give themself time before having to see him again, but Deja and Cam were starting to give them the look and Elio had been messaging them everyday asking to hang out.

So, Blue was going. They were going to go tonight and pretend that Percy Tozaki wasn't the love of their damn life. Pretend he hadn't told them he was leaving them for their own good. They were going to go tonight and see their friends, they were going to have a good time and pretend they hadn't spent the last three weeks hiding in bed crying their eyes out.

Putting a bit of concealer under their eyes to hide the dark circles, Blue felt their throat close up and their heart stutter in their chest. Deja and Cam were perched on Blue's bed as they sat at the desk with a little stand mirror. "You don't have to come out with us tonight if you don't want to, Blueberry. You know that, right?"

"I'll be fine guys. It was just a break up, not like I haven't been broken up with before." The two shared a look that Blue saw in the mirror. They didn't want to make their friends choose, so they were going to be okay. They were. It would just take time to be okay again and maybe this was too fast, but they did miss Elio and Jamie. They missed hanging out with everyone.

Cam's hands made their way onto Blue's shoulders as they added a bit of eyeshadow to their look. "We could just stay in, or go out just the three of us, just like old times."

Shaking their head before adding eyeliner and mascara, Blue tried to smile in the mirror for Deja and Cam to see. "I'll be okay. I took my time and now I'm ready for things to go back to normal. I miss the guys and if I don't go now, there's a chance I never will."

"Okay, but if you need to leave then we leave. They can find their own way home." Smiling something almost real, Blue nodded once to their friends. Smoothing out their hair, they stood from the desk and grabbed a jacket. They knew they would need it later tonight as the sun dipped low in the sky and fell away.

Deja's hands clapped together as she stood from Blue's bed and stepped towards the door. "Alright, let's get tonight started then. I want to dance."

Exiting the building and making their way to the parking lot, Blue was the first one to see Elio come rushing at them. His arms circled around them and he lifted them off their feet, swinging them around. After a full revolution, Elio set Blue back down and hugged them tight, his lips right at their ear as he whispered. "He's an idiot, but I'm working on it." The backs of their eyes burned as Blue pulled away slightly. "I missed you Blueberry. Glad to see you coming out with us. And let me just say you look fantastic tonight."

"Thanks Elio, but I'm okay." Blue's voice was just as quiet as Elio's had been, but they felt the way their throat closed up around the words. They would be okay, they would, they had to be. This wasn't their first break up, just because it hurt more than any other had before didn't mean much. They would be okay.

Big brown eyes took in Blue's face before he smiled something soft and sad. "You will be." Hugging the larger man one more time, Blue stepped out of his hold and made their way to Cam's vehicle at a more sedate pace, Elio's arm looped loosely through their own. "Now we're going to dance the night away, yes?" Laughing lightly, Blue met Deja's eyes as she watched them carefully.

"You know it, Elio. That dance floor is mine tonight."

Jamie reached over and patted the top of Blue's head with a smirk on his face as soon as they were close enough. "Good to see you tonight, Blue." Rolling their eyes in his direction, Blue smiled at the familiar action. They pointedly weren't looking in Percy's direction. They weren't going to do that until the burning in their eyes from Elio's words fell away. They had spent too much time and energy getting their make-up on correctly for it to be ruined before they even made it to the club.

"You too, Jamie." Unlocking the doors, Cam pulled Blue away from Elio and shoved them into the front seat. By the look Deja was sending them across the hood of the SUV, Blue knew this was a planned attack, but they couldn't find it in themself to care that much. It kept them away from him for just a bit longer and let them keep themself in control just a bit longer. Just a bit longer and they would be okay.

Glancing at Elio perched behind Blue's seat, Blue couldn't help the grin that took over their face. He had to have been in cahoots with Cam and Deja, but Blue couldn't find it in themself to be upset over this fact. Elio was a sweetheart, but he was Percy's person and Blue wasn't going to let this become an issue. Hopefully his actions were helping Percy too. They would be lying if they said they didn't want Percy to be hurting too. They hoped it burned what he did to both of them. Glancing into the mirror, Blue caught their first look at Percy Tozaki.

He… he just looked the same. Looked just as he always did. Blue was over here aching and  wanting to cry every second of the day, but he looked just fine. They hated that more than they wanted to.

Blue would be fine, but it felt a little unfair that Percy already was.
