If someone told you that in two years of a relationship they'd never heard their girlfriend speak, you'd think they were crazy, right? Well... no, in my case I love Lapis more than anything, but I've never heard her voice since I met her. Some people might wonder how we communicate... it's simpler than it seems. Lapis communicates using her tablet, sign language, or gestures. At this point, I can read her like an open book.
Lapis hasn't always been like this... From what some people have told me, Lapis used to be quite talkative, which seems unlikely given how serene she is, at least with me. But not long ago, her voice was taken away...well, not exactly, but she was in a very abusive relationship, and as a result of the trauma she suffered she sometimes relives the experiences in terrible nightmares and she became nonverbal as a way of protecting herself. At first, it hurt, I admit it, saying "I love you" and not having it answered by her, but by a robotic voice coming from the tablet she uses to communicate. But... I've learned that Lapis just shows her love in different ways, very tactful ways to say the least she loves hugging me, cuddling and just being close to me in general.
I'm pulled from my thoughts by two fingers gently tapping my lips. It's Lapis. Then I see her move those same fingers to her soft, full lips. She taps twice and then looks at me. I know what she wants... but I always like to tease her a little before giving it to her.
"Nope, this is the third time today, Laz"
I see her pouting and reaching out to her tablet which is currently laying on the couch, her fingers dance against the screen she's typing something....
《Babe, please》
"Nope"
She types again...faster this time...
《Am I a burden?》the robotic voice asks
"No, Lapis, love, I didn't mean that, I was just playing. You know I would never think that way about you. You'll never be a burden."
Lapis types again I see her eyes watering and it's all my fault she's a sensitive person with low self-esteem I shouldn't have done this , I feel absolutely awful
《I feel like...you deserve better... I'm...broken》 the robotic voice says lapis continues typing 《I can't even talk like a normal person》
"No Lapis, first of all, you're not broken, you're healing and that takes time, and no, I don't deserve better because it's you I want, okay? You are strong...not everyone survives what you lived"
I step up to brush her tears away with the sleeve of my hoodie and give her a soft kiss on the lips, she giggles, a sound that i love listening to i could litsen to it for hours in a loop, the best part is that when you make her laugh enough she snorts and its incredibly cute.
"I-" A hoarse, weak voice, from lack of use, says, Lapis is trying to speak. Her voice is as beautiful as, if not more beautiful than, her laugh, but she closes her mouth and shakes her head as if the words don't taste right in her mouth
I hugged her tightly, planting another kiss on her lips. "It's okay if you don't feel ready yet, it's okay. Don't feel obligated to do something you don't want to, okay?"
She shakes her head again and sighs deeply. You can see the determination in those ocean-blue eyes. Lapis is stubborn, very stubborn. "I-...L-ove you, Peri." I don't know when it happened, but my eyes filled with tears that wouldn't stop falling. "I love you too, Lapis. I love you so much" She hugged me tightly against her chest, letting me sob until I calmed down.
