Work Text:
My fathers name is Joe
Not on paper but in life
For an s between two vowels
Fills our world with hate and strife
He hails from the big Apple
His brothers’ across the sea
And when asked about his views
There’s little to which we agree
A man comes into power
And mens' thoughts come a pretty pence
two felons make a right they say
But only one shall face consequence
His brothers are here no longer
But his trust does not fail
For he believes in laws and justice
And his faith, it prevails
But I am a different breed
Grown up north I recognize the signs
To listen to the whispers
To inspect each and every line
As water pools and icicles grow
Orange graffiti paints upon browned siding
As it leaks upon dirtied snow
The only safety is in timing
Snow turns to slush in just an instant
Clouds always show a hint of gray
You learn to recognize the scent
You learn when to turn away
If not for that fair powder
If not for my fair skin
What consequence would I suffer
Would I face troubles aside my kin
My father’s name is Joe
and with our name it’s only time
My father does not believe me
But this ending, the one I see, well
The bell doth chime.
