Alex watched as the clock ticked down. 11:40…11:43. Come on, come on. Already, she could hear the distant pops and booms of fireworks and firecrackers, but it seemed that the NCPD crackdown on illegal fireworks had done its job as there weren’t as many as last year. Pushing off the couch, Alex padded to the window, leaning against the frame and watching the cityscape. She could hear the crowds in the distance, people chattering and talking and celebrating. She knew that Kara and James were in New York watching the big ball drop in Times Square, but she was content to remain here in National City.
A soft rustling sounded behind her, footsteps softly crossing the floor before a pair of strong arms were winding around her waist, a warm form pressing against her back, warm breath ghosting across her ear.
“Not long now, love” Astra whispered, tightening her hold around Alex’s waist.
Alex smirked, reaching down to find and take Astra’s hand, tangling their fingers together tightly.
“Not long,” she murmured, leaning back against Astra’s form. She looked over at the clock: 11:57 “any resolutions for the new year?” she asked.
Astra’s smirk widened into one of those rare, shy smiles she reserved just for Alex and Kara. “Just this,” she murmured “you?”
“Just this” Alex smirked, watching as the clock began to tick down.

Three…
Two…
One…
“Happy new year, love” Astra grinned, tugging Alex around to face her, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead.
“Happy new year” Alex grinned, leaning in to press a soft, open-mouthed kiss to Astra’s lips as a few fireworks burst outside…
