Work Text:
My alarm went off loudly, way too early. I groaned and smacked my hand around until I finally shut it off.
"Not again..."
My parents started yelling downstairs. Same voices, same tone, same argument they've been having forever. I didn't need to listen closely to know what it was about. It was always something so small, such a waste of time. It always had to happen in the morning, when I'm having my peaceful sleep.
I lay there staring at the ceiling, wishing I could hit pause on life for like five minutes.
But thank God I'm moving out soon. I let out a breath and sat up, rubbing my face. Just a little longer. Then no more alarms mixed with shouting. No more "here we go again" mornings. At least not like this. Maybe life is not that bad after all.
Campus was already loud by the time I got there. Students crowded the hallways, talking over each other, laughing, and complaining about classes. Second year, and somehow it felt both familiar and exhausting at the same time.
I was halfway down the main hallway when I spotted them.
"Yn!" Someone called.
I looked up just in time to see my friends waving me over, I smiled and walked over to them.
"Rough morning?" One of my friends Layla asked, eyeing my tired expression.
"You have no idea," I said shaking my head. "I swear my house is allergic to peace."
They laughed, and just like that, my chest eased a little. Being here, away from the loud noises made everything feel more manageable.
We stood there talking about classes, deadlines, professors, who talked way too much, and ones who didn't explain anything at all. Normal stuff.
I was mid complaint about a professor when suddenly a pair of arms wrapped around me from behind.
I jumped. "Oh my-"
"Relax darling it's me." A familiar voice laughed near my ear.
I instantly smiled, leaning back into him. Luca.
I turned slightly, catching sight of his green eyes behind his round glasses, the kind that somehow made him look both soft and effortlessly charming. His blonde hair was a little messy, like he hadn't bothered fixing it much this morning, and he was wearing one of his usual hoodies. There was something about him, maybe the way he smiled, easy and warm, that made everything feel calmer the second he showed up.
My friends groaned dramatically.
"Wow," one of my friends, Ronya said. "Must be nice."
Lucas laughed, squeezing my waist once more before letting go. "Mind if I steal her for a bit?"
They waved us off like they were doing me a favor.
"Go. We will survive"
He took my hand, and we walked a little further down the hallway, away from the noise.
"So," he said, glancing at me through those stupidly pretty green eyes, "have you thought any more about the move?"
I nodded. "Yeah. I was actually looking at storage bins last night. We are gonna need a lot more than I thought."
He chuckled "Figures. Oh yeah also Halloween is in 2 weeks."
I stopped walking and looked at him "Don't tell me you forgot."
"No, no." he said quickly. "I was thinking ...orange lights, fake spider webs and maybe those little pumpkins for the windowsill. Let's start decorating while we are moving at it"
My eyes lit up. "Yes! And a Halloween themed doormat. And candles. Not the scary smelling ones though"
"Agreed." he said "I still want to breathe"
We started walking again, talking over each other now, throwing ideas back and forth. It felt unreal, in the best way possible. Our own place. Our own space.
Just us.
For the first time in a long while, I felt genuinely excited for what was coming next.
Almost a week passed by faster than I expected, and suddenly it was the weekend.
The boxes stacked up in the corner of my room. Clothes, books, random things I don't even remember owning and everything I could fit in into the cardboard. My room looked emptier already, like it knew I was leaving.
I zipped up my bag and took one last look around. This room had been my escape for years, but it was never truly mine. Not the way the new place would be.
My phone buzzed.
Luca: Outside.
I headed downstairs and said my goodbyes to my parents. Nothing dramatic, just a quick hug and promises that I would keep in touch and visit.
Outside, Luca was already there with the car. He gave me a small smile when he saw me.
"Ready, love?" He asked.
"Yeah" I responded.
We spent a while carrying boxes back and forth, loading, them into the car. It was tiring, but it didn't bother me. Once everything was in, he closed the back of the car and he went into the driver seat while I got in the passenger seat as he drove off to our new apartment.
While he drove, he held my hand and gave it a slight squeeze and a kiss on the palm of it as he said
"I'm so happy that I will be moving in with you. I have been dreaming about this long time ago, my love."
I blush slightly and respond with
"Me too."
He smiled and let go of my hand as he kept driving until we finally got there. The place was already set up. Furniture was in and the Halloween decorations were already out too.
I looked around and let out a breath. "Wow."
Luca stood next to me. "Not bad, right?"
I smiled. "Yeah. Not bad at all."
We carried the last of the boxes inside and set them down. The apartment was finally ready, everything in place, the Halloween decorations giving it a fun, cozy vibe.
Luca flopped onto the couch, patting the spot next to him. "Come here." he said, grinning. I dropped my bag and sat down, leaning against him. He wrapped an arm around my shoulders, pulling me close, and I rested my head on his chest.
He tilted his head down toward me, brushing a strand of hair from my face "I can't wait to fill this place with memories...with you Yn." He murmured.
I looked up at him, smiling, and before I could answer, he leaned in. Our lips met in a soft slow kiss, and I felt a warmth spread through me that had nothing to do with the heater.
We stayed on the couch like that, tangled up and smiling against each other, the new apartment already starting to feel like home. Almost like it's... too good to be true.
