#21: Government
“More chrono-spacial distortions have been detected.” The voice was calm, composed. Although the holographic figure had no distinct features, she knew he was standing as he always did when he talked like this, standing up straight with his hands clasped behind his back, perhaps even pacing back and forth. “Dimensional stability has dropped another 0.5% in the past 24 hours. The rate of decay is nowhere near the initial drop 127 hours ago, but it is beginning to speed up.”
She sighed, tapping her fingers on the table in front of her, singularity rings glinting in the light. “And have there been any leads on possible causes?”
“Yes, in fact. The phenomenon known as the Library seems to be linked to the decrease in dimensional stability: reports indicate that the first “Invitation” was sent out 126 hours ago, shortly after the dimensional breach. However, every time an Invitation has been signed, it coincides with an increase in dimensional stability, and evidence suggests that the other increases were caused by Invitations being signed that we were not aware of. This evidence suggests that while the Library is connected to the issues, it may not be the cause of them.”
She closed her eyes, rubbing the bridge of her nose. “And the fact that no Invitations have been signed recently supports that, yes. Well, continue tracking any and all known Invitations, looking for any patterns, or any dimensional residue that could lead to the real culprit. Thelma, see what can be done to… convince additional recipients to sign their Invitations. The increase in dimensional stability will provide additional time as well as more opportunities for the culprit to slip up. I will be checking in with another potential link in District 12’s Warp Train Station, or rather, the director there.
The holographic Beholder and the silent Claw standing across from her both nodded. She snapped her fingers to activate one of her singularity rings to Warp away- wholly unnecessary, but what was an Arbiter without her flair for the dramatic, hmm? She’d just have to trust the City’s Will that this lead would be useful, or that Thelma or Astolfo would have better luck.. This was a difficult job sometimes, even with all the perks.
