Work Text:

Chad never felt the need to do anything for Valentine’s Day. His relationships usually last for a week to a month, and it’s not like they were serious enough anyway, so he saw no point in celebrating such days.

But here he is, standing in front of Robert’s apartment door with a box of chocolates in his hands, heating up a little thanks to his anxiety. They’ve been together for more than two months, almost three, serious enough to celebrate a day like this with.

Chad doesn’t want to mess this up, as silly as it sounds.

After swallowing his nerves, he knocks on the door and waits.

And a short moment later, Robert opens the door.

“Hey, Chad.” The dispatcher greets him with a smile, suspecting his boyfriend would be stopping by today but wondering for what. Regardless, Robert holds the door open, letting the other man inside his apartment before closing the door.

Entering the small living room, Chad remains silent for a moment, not knowing what to say, feeling a little nervous for some reason. Maybe because it’s his first time giving something to his boyfriend for Valentine’s Day, or is he taking this too seriously? Chad snaps out of it before he can think too much.

“Just, uh, happy Valentine’s day, Bob-Bob.” He eventually says, showing the box of chocolates for Robert to see, holding it out for him to take. Shit, why does he feel this nervous about something so casual? It’s not like he’s going to propose!

“Oh, thank you.” The dispatcher says with a warm smile, taking the box from his boyfriend before putting it on his small dinner table. He has completely forgotten it’s Valentine’s today, but if he remembered, he would’ve guessed Chad would give him chocolates. The former villain always made sure he was never hungry. Chad would cook for him once a week and get him snacks during work breaks, something Robert never protested against.

He opens the box, only to see the small chocolates having melted completely, the heart-shaped compartments filled with what is essentially chocolate milk.

Chad sees it too, and he blushes out of embarrassment. Shit, he must’ve unconsciously warmed up due to being so nervous. Way to ruin this…

“Fuck…” Chad mutters at himself, glancing away from the box. It’s one of those times where he hates his powers, despite how much he can brag about them. “Sorry, Rob. I was nervous and I-“

“It’s okay, Chad” Robert reassures him. “I can put them in the fridge, or make chocolate sauce out of it.”

Chad turns to look at him, feeling his embarrassment slowly fading. That’s actually a nice idea. Robert always sees the positive in things, or he comes up with creative solutions to make it such. It’s one of the many things Chad loves about him.

“I like them like this.” Robert comments, looking up to smile at his boyfriend. Unlike Chad, he didn’t even think about getting him something today. Robert makes a mental note to write those things down. “I actually forgot today is Valentine’s Day, but I can give you a flower next week if you want.”

“As long as you bring it to me.” Chad says in response, his voice sounding playful but feeling quite the opposite. “I don’t want to burn it…”

The mental image alone makes him frown.

“Of course I will.” Robert says as he walks to the fridge and puts the box of melted chocolates in it, having decided the former in the end. Chad gave him chocolates, so he will eat them like they still are, even after they’ve melted. “Want to watch a movie?”

The offer has Chad smile a little, feeling a tiny bit better than earlier. A good romcom sounds nice right now, maybe with some popcorn if Bob-Bob even has that in the cubbord.

”Only if I get to choose.”

Notes:

Happy Valentines Day everyone!
