Work Text:
The members had decided to take a break from group activities. It wasn't something bad, they just needed to rethink a few things, work on themselves as individuals for better. Focus on styles and things that they would like to pursue on their own.
Yoongi didn’t think much had changed ever since they made the announcement during that festa dinner.
That was one of the things about solo eras. Everyone talked about them like they were clean breaks—new identities, new sounds, new choices, new selves—but for Yoongi, it mostly felt like the same days rearranged. Different schedules. Different studios. More time alone, sure, but the people who mattered stayed in place. The members stayed.
Jimin stayed.
They didn’t say it out loud—they didn't think they needed to, to be honest. But they gravitated toward each other even more in the gaps left by group schedules. Jimin was someone who needed reassurance every once in a while. Yoongi knew that. He wasn't one to speak his thoughts out loud, but when it came to Jimin he always made sure to let the younger know that he was there for him.
Late evenings when the studios were quieter, he'd get messages like ‘drink water’ ‘eat on time’ or ‘don’t stay up too late’. Sometimes Jimin will appear at his studio, they'll have random meals that started with a simple message of ‘have you eaten?’ from either of them and ended with them sitting on the floor, shoes kicked off, conversation drifting nowhere in particular.
Sometimes Jimin talked a lot. Sometimes he didn’t. Yoongi had learned when to let the silence do the work. It also helped that they’d known each other long enough for things not to feel forced. No pressure to entertain, no need to impress. Jimin showed up in oversized hoodies and soft sweats, hair still damp from showers, voice rough when he was tired from practice. Yoongi liked those versions best—the ones that didn’t perform. Not for him especially.
“You’re staring,” Jimin said once, not looking up from his phone.
They were lazing around in his studio yet again, with Jimin half-draped on the couch he had in his studio for when he liked to crash out there instead of going home.
“You’re blocking the light.” Yoongi shrugged. He was sitting in his chair facing away from the setup and definitely staring at Jimin.
“Liar.”
Yoongi didn’t argue against that. The convo ended there. They didn't need to fill the silence, it felt comfortable. Felt like them.
If he was being honest—and he usually was… well at least with himself. He’d been noticing Jimin more lately. Not in a sudden way. Nothing dramatic. With the other members being out of sight and being busy with their own schedules preparations, it was easier to notice things that weren't so visible with them being together all the time. It was just small things adding up over time. He had been noticing how his relationship with Jimin was different in a way than the others. He started noticing how Jimin leaned closer when he laughed. The little habit of covering his mouth. How he checked over his companions, always such a kind man. How he never failed to make others feel at ease with him. Yoongi felt that himself, he knew how Jimin can be the epitome of the phrase ‘shoulder you can lean on’.
He also noticed how his moods lingered longer during this solo career, his highs sharper, with the best efforts, never leaving a chance to do better. And the lows quieter, the kind where he sat back, trying to see where things went wrong or how to fix it. Jimin was just that kind of person, who never gave up.
——
It's been months since their solo careers started, all the members were doing well. Picking up brand ambassadorships, promoting their own album, going on variety shows etc. Jimin has also been busy with his own schedule, going on shows for his solo album ‘FACE’s’ promotions. Yoongi had visited him during his single ‘Set me free pt.2’s promotions and it honestly was such a delightful surprise. He was feeling pretty nervous that particular day, and seeing the elder there to support him eased some of his nerves. Yoongi had said he'd come to support him and he kept his words.
The elder had started his own solo tour now and Jimin wanted to visit him. He wanted to see their fans, even if he had met them not long ago. But specifically he wanted to see Yoongi. Personally. Although they had been talking over late night calls or dropping messages whenever they could. With their busy schedule it was hard to find time for a proper chat and Jimin was just… he just felt the urge to see him.
So it was kind of an impulsive decision. Jimin hadn’t planned on staying long though.
That was what he told himself while sitting in the van, the bucket hat pulled low, a mask covering the lower half of his face, watching as the venue slid into view through the tinted window. Yoongi being on tour meant he was *busy* busy, moving cities every few days, running on adrenaline and muscle memory. Jimin also still has his own schedule, his own rehearsals, his own deadlines he has to meet. But he carved out a bit of time just for this day.
He wanted to show his support.
Yeah, this was just support. That’s all.
He’d show up, say hi, and watch the show from the side if possible, congratulate Yoongi afterward, then disappear again into his own routine. Easy. Normal. It's nothing big.
Still, his foot bounced lightly against the floor as the van slowed to a stop at the venue.
The backstage smelled like equipment and coffee and the faint sharpness of nerves—not his he realized, but everyone else’s as he walked inside. Crew members moved with purpose, headsets on, wires and clipboards in hand, mics and all the needed stuff being set up, voices clipped as they steadfastly moved around, setting up and getting ready for the show. Jimin kept his head down, following the familiar path along the hallways, nodding politely when someone recognized him.
Jimin bowed politely to the staff as he headed for the dressing room.
When he reached there, he knocked once, then opened the door without waiting, the other staff following behind him. Yoongi was sitting on a chair in front of a mirror, getting ready for today's show. He looked up, expression neutral for half a second before it softened, realising it's him.
“Ah, Jiminie~” Yoongi smiled, raising his hand as Jimin came over and grabbed it. The staff were putting makeup on his face, one was fixing his long hair while a few flitted around, checking his outfit.
“How do you feel?” Jimin stood beside him as he asked, a bright smile hidden behind the mask.
“I feel good." Yoongi mumbles, watching as Jimin sits on the spare chair near him, he was happy that the younger decided to visit him. They start talking about the time when Jin and Taehyung fought here at the same venue. Jimin giggles, clapping his hand as he remembers that moment well. The two had fought until the last five minutes before they were supposed to go up on the stage.
"I'm excited for the concert!” Jimin speaks up after a while as Yoongi gets his eye makeup done.
“Just tell me where you're sitting, I want to greet you later when I'm talking to the audience." Yoongi speaks up casually, arms crossed across his chest.
"You don't have to.” Jimin bursts out laughing at that, the staff present there giggling along as well.
“Do you need makeup?" One of the staff teases as Jimin immediately refuses, "No, no!” He chuckled. The teasing and laughter flowed easily around them. It was nice. Jimin liked the easy atmosphere ,he didn't know why he was so nervous when coming here.
"People think you're performing.” Yoongi starts again without leaving a beat, "’Why isn't he returning to Korea?’ They're saying." They are currently in New York and Jimin's promotions here were almost done, so the fans speculating was pretty obvious.
“That's because you keep talking about it!" Jimin accusingly points at him, not able to stop his giggles. It was true, Yoongi kept asking him to perform with him on the stage.
"I guess it could be seen that way." Yoongi mumbles at that, a small smile constant on his lips, well he couldn't be blamed, he did want to perform with Jimin.
Jimin doesn't say anything to that, getting up from the chair he grabs a bottle, drinking a bit of water as he moves towards Yoongi.
“It doesn't matter if you don't perform, I don't think it's necessary, but if you do perform, it'll be a great experience for you.” Yoongi smirked as he jokingly said. He loved to hear the bubbly laughter from Jimin at his constant request.
"Let's go! Give me a mic." Jimin jokes after he changes into the official merch T-shirt of Yoongi’s tour. Yoongi could only smile widely at that. The staff were enjoying it as well.
They both shift to the couch in the waiting room after Yoongi is done getting ready.
“I don't care if you walk around, but just be there to be on the screen.” Yoongi doesn't look up from his phone as he says that. Jimin bursts into laughter yet again at that. He was enjoying Yoongi continuously asking him to be present there.
They chatted a bit more after that, Yoongi kept replying really confidently to whatever Jimin complimented him about the preparations of the show, making him keep giggling at that. He was liking it a bit too much.
“After the show, shower me with compliments. Please do it for me, my honorary rainmaker, Park Jimin.” Yoongi smirks after saying, leaning back on the couch. He looked proud of himself for remembering the line. He didn't know though what kind of effect it had on Jimin who was an avid romance lover.
It was all in good humor, but it made Jimin’s heart beat just that bit faster. He couldn't wipe the smile off of his face, feeling his cheeks getting warmer. He was excited for the show.
——
The show itself was loud, barely controlled chaos. Army's filled the venue, cheering, singing along, waving their light sticks with the beats. Jimin watched from the side of the stage, heart thrumming in his chest in a way that surprised him. He’d seen Yoongi perform hundreds of times, but something about this—the tour, the independence, the confidence—the overall energy made it hit differently.
Yoongi looked confident. Grounded. Like someone exactly where he was meant to be. And he belonged there on the stage.
When it ended, Jimin found himself clapping harder than he meant to. Eyes closed in crescents with how wide he was smiling.
The backstage afterward was calmer, looser. Yoongi opened the door to the waiting room where they both were last sitting and Jimin was waiting there already.
“Whoa, Suga hyung. Great job!” An easy smile appeared on Jimin’s face hidden behind the mask he wore as he lifted his hand up for Yoongi. “That was fun!" He complimented instantly, remembering Yoongi's request.
"It was fun?” Yoongi asked as he grabbed the hand, standing beside the couch. He felt happy to hear the compliment, but he wouldn't admit it of course.
“Yeah you were good!" Jimin compliments again, looking up at him from his sitting position. Yoongi kept his face blank, he wouldn't let it end without teasing Jimin.
“Didn't you know I was good?" Yoongi says instead, grabbing the water bottle from the table and drinking to hide the smirk.
“Yah, this is why I can't compliment this guy in front of him!” Jimin faces the staff as he complains even as a laugh bubbles out of him. Yoongi was such a menace.
——
“Hello everyone, this is Suga."
Yoongi started the live when they reached the hotel room. He was sitting on a chair, hair still a little damp from the shower. The room behind him was quiet now, post-concert calm settling in. He greeted the viewers briefly, voice relaxed, like he was winding down rather than performing.
“Finished the show well today, hope you guys enjoyed it” he gave a closed lipped smile while reading the comments flooding on the screen. “With the end of the Newark concert today, I finished three concerts in New York.” he said, glancing off to the side for a moment, seeing Jimin settling behind the camera before looking back at the screen.
The comments moved fast. He looked at them and tried to read a few. He was relaxed, leaning towards the phone to better catch the fast moving words on the screen, arms folded across his chest.
Yoongi read a few about “no iPhone” "only galaxy”, nodding along he showed his own phone with a d-day cover, another tour merch of his. He smirked and said how Samsung would be smiling right now as he's such a true model. He talked a bit more about Samsung, saying he can do such good commercials, just doing the things he's supposed to as a brand ambassador. He grabbed a bottle of water and drank a bit as he read a few more comments, eyes trying to match the fast pace of the words flowing over the screen.
"Don't worry, I'm not that tired.” He reassured the comments saying he looked tired.
Yoongi sat there for a while, reading comments and replying and just talking to the fans. Jimin watched him silently with a small smile on his lips at how he interacted with them. He also wanted to chat a bit, but didn't want to intrude as it was between Yoongi and Army's after the concert, they'd want to talk about it and he'd only distract them.
“Oh, I saw Jimin today. Jiminie came to watch the show." Yoongi spoke up suddenly and started reading the comments again like it was nothing. He talked a bit more about his concert before reverting back to his interaction with Jimin, who was a bit startled at the sudden mention.
“Jimin… before I started the concert, we were together in the green room and then when I went up on the stage, he went to his seat in the audience.” Yoongi glanced down for a sec as he spoke, scratching the back of his ear. Jimin was right there in the room with him, but he kept silent. Just watching him from behind the camera, he was surprised because Yoongi brought him up to the fans, not like they didn't know he was at the concert but he still thought Yoongi wouldn't mention him.
"He was with me after it was over, too. We came in the same car.” Yoongi smiled, looking behind the camera at Jimin, who was yet again surprised that Yoongi told the fans about him being there with him right now. "Come here, come here.” He motions Jimin to come over. An involuntary smile spreads on his lips as Jimin sighs at the sudden invitation. "Aigoo hyung~” He protests a bit, feeling a bit shy as he still sits behind the camera.
Yoongi chuckles at the silly face he makes, "come here, next to me.” He urges Jimin to come into the frame with him, wanting to continue the live together. He shifts a bit to make space for Jimin when he sees him moving eventually. He tries to not laugh at how cute Jimin looked while trying to make himself presentable for the camera.
“I'm very bare faced right now." Jimin mumbles shyly, finally stepping into the frame. He can tell his cheeks are pink and everyone watching the live can see all the blemishes without the makeup. He feels a bit insecure as he moves behind Yoongi to sit in the other chair.
“It’s alright. You're pretty even with bareface.” Yoongi reassures him immediately, knowing where he was coming from. He wouldn't want him to think otherwise about himself because Jimin really is pretty like this.
“Ah, hyung~" Jimin smiles, a little flustered as he sits down, “Well, Army's have seen everything anyway.” Yoongi hums at that, watching Jimin through the live screen.
“Hey guys, nice to meet you all." He greets the fans while fixing the bucket hat, still a bit flustered at how easily Yoongi said that he's pretty just like this. His heart is beating a bit too fast for his liking.
Jimin tried to divert his attention by trying to pronounce Yoongi's stage name, “Agust-D, Ag-Agut, Agust-D. Ah why can't I pronounce it.” He shakes his head, chuckling at himself when he couldn't get it right. Yoongi chuckles as well, sitting straighter, "Agust-D!” He corrects gently, not being able to stop the smile on his face.
“I came to watch his concert." Jimin looked at Yoongi as he said that, getting comfortable in his seat.
"How was the concert?” Yoongi also turned to look at Jimin as he asked. Jimin really did look pretty today.
"Honestly?” Jimin smirked, teasing the older as he stalled his reply.
"Mhm.” Yoongi just went along as he hummed, wanting to know how Jimin thought of his experience at his concert.
"You were good, huh. You were good!” Jimin grinned, patting Yoongi on his shoulders as the elder looked away, a grin of his own visible on his face.
Jimin continued to chat a bit more about the concert, talking about the vcrs, trying to understand what the concept really was. Yoongi tried to explain it to him without spoiling much to their fans. Jimin decided he'll ask Yoongi later on so as not to reveal much, they'd be staying together after anyway. Yoongi did confirm that what he was thinking was probably correct to ease his curiosity a bit. They both chatted more about the concert, discussing the songs Yoongi performed live. Jimin definitely enjoyed the live versions, Yoongi felt a bit flustered as he complimented him. He didn't look at Jimin as he replied to him. Jimin giggles, noticing how Yoongi was feeling shy and not making eye contact, a pretty cute habit of his.
“Today, the guitar string breaking… you purposely planned that because I came right?” Jimin laughed as he remembered how surprised Yoongi looked when that string broke. It was hilarious yet adorable.
"No, no." Yoongi tried to defend himself, he knew Jimin was teasing him but he liked hearing that hearty laughter.
Jimin continued to tease him more about it as he gave his arguments. Yoongi kept trying to defend himself, saying he didn't do it on purpose. He didn't get why he was trying to prove himself right, but he couldn't stop arguing against Jimin. The younger couldn't stop his giggles. Yoongi explained how the string suddenly broke and he was like ‘huh?’ ‘What do I do?’ and that he had to perform but it broke.
“It was so funny to see you so startled." Jimin chuckles at the memory again, oh he's so gonna tease him with this incident for a while.
Yoongi said that he brought two guitars with him, one that has Suga on it. "Jimin was the one who did the graphics on it!” He praised the younger. He did like how pretty Jimin made the doodles, the other members also did add their little things, but Jimin decorated it a bit more.
"Ah, hyung come on~" Jimin said a bit abashedly. He liked the praise but it made him flustered as well.
They continued to talk about the guitar and how it was funny that the string broke. Laughing about the incident together. Jimin watched as Yoongi talked, staring at him and feeling this warm sensation in his chest. He liked Yoongi's voice, he talked in a slow drawl, a bit raspy and deep. It felt soothing to listen to. He did add in his own thoughts and comments, keeping the conversation going. Yoongi told Jimin that he needed to make 1-2 more albums and go on tour too. Jimin looked down, saying he'll work hard, but not now. Yoongi laughed as he agreed, saying how Jimin didn't have enough songs yet.
Yoongi continued to talk about how he went about preparing for this concert and Jimin just couldn't look away, he was mesmerized. He spoke only a few words as he listened intently. Fingers caressing his chin absentmindedly, Yoongi mirrored his actions, turning sideways in his seat to look at him a bit more comfortably. Jimin unconsciously squeezed his cheeks, making his lips poutier. Yoongi glanced down before he straightened, turning back towards the screen.
They reminisced about the old times when they performed here as a group. Yoongi again told him to hurry and do a concert of his own. Jimin nodded and continued to reminisce about their old times, Yoongi followed along saying how he remembered their positions and stuff when he was up there, and then he cheekily asked if it didn't make Jimin want to perform up there as well. Jimin agreed that yes it did because he hasn't performed with the members in a while, completely oblivious to the devilish smile on Yoongi's face upon hearing his reply.
“You have to be a guest then.” He said it so casually that Jimin burst into laughter immediately, not expecting that at any point.
“Ah, hold on everyone, I'm going to drink some water." Jimin got up right after, giving a lame excuse as he moved out of the frame. Yoongi giggled at his silliness.
“Why? Let's do Tony Montana." He continues to persist, “That’d be nice." The cheeky smile visible as he follows the younger’s movement with eyes.
Jimin agreed, "Yeah, okay. But you built it so much that the fans all thought I was doing it today!” He complained, watching Yoongi continue to laugh as he turned to the camera looking proud of himself.
Yoongi relented on his persistence, saying that they didn't know when they'll perform it, but telling Jimin that they have to do it at least once. Jimin promptly agreed, seeing that Yoongi won't back down and to be honest he didn't mind performing with him. That was the only ‘subunit’ song of theirs after all. When he came back in the frame, he talked about how he's gonna be watching the concert a few more times. Yoongi invited him to come visit during his tour in other countries. Jimin suggested he add five more songs to it because he felt it was too soon to end. Yoongi argued that it was perfect. Their bickering continued as they discussed the duration of the concert and compared the other concerts by pop artists and k-pop.
Yoongi moved forward to look at comments while praising the fans at how they bring their banners and stuff and how it's so fun. He tells them that he watches everything back on the monitor and Jimin agrees that it's really cute.
Suddenly he remembers about the barking and asks Jimin if he heard it as well. Jimin was confused for a moment there as Yoongi repeated what he said. Jimin realised what he was talking about and impersonated how he saw the fans barking. They both were confused why the fans were doing that, discussing among themselves to see if the other had any point. Jimin said he was so lost seeing them do that, but Yoongi found it fun, saying how it got him excited too.
Yoongi once again told Jimin to release more albums and do a tour because he wanted to come and visit him as well. It was all fun banter, but Yoongi did want Jimin to experience the thrill and excitement he felt being on stage alone between thousands of people and having a blast of a concert. Of course they liked to perform with the group, but it was just different being on your own and having a crowd banging their heads to your songs.
Jimin looked down, lifting his hand up to rest it on Yoongi's shoulder, “Please wait for it." He nodded, sincerely telling the fans that he'll do it one day.
Yoongi stiffened for just a second and immediately turned to the camera, “Yes, anyway, today was a lot of fun. I'm tired, anyway…" He started to say his last words before he ended the live. Glancing back at Jimin who looked a bit surprised but admitted that Yoongi did need rest, he has to perform in other shows as well.
“Everyone, it was fun. Let's enjoy the remaining concerts.” He lifted a hand in a quick wave, moving to end the live. Jimin said his bye as well, waving both his hands in the air. A bright smile on his face.
And just like that, Yoongi ended the live—screen cutting off mid-comment flood, no buildup, no extended goodbye.
Jimin stared at the dark screen for a second, then laughed quietly. “You always do that.”
Yoongi leaned back in his chair, phone set aside as he shrugged. “It's fine."
Jimin glanced at him, the camera now off left them both alone, something warm settling in his chest as they sat in each other's presence quietly for a bit. The silence stretched and they didn't move from their place, sitting there for a moment longer than necessary.
“You are staying the night, right?” Yoongi asked slowly, breaking the silent staring between them.
Jimin blinked. “I can, if that’s okay.” He murmured, not wanting to disturb the quiet that had fallen around them.
“Yeah. You can stay.” Yoongi nodded immediately, not wanting Jimin to leave.
They ordered some food, Jimin took a shower and changed into more comfortable clothes as well before they moved to the floor near the bed. The night stretched in the way it always did with them—talking, then not talking, then talking again. It varied from about the concert, about the other members, about their fans to random things they remembered… then it was silent again. It was as usual comfortable, they felt no need to fill it with unnecessary words.
At some point, Jimin laid back on the floor, staring at the ceiling. Yoongi sat beside him, leaning against the bedframe, they could've moved on the spacious bed, but neither of them felt the urge to move.
“You ever feel weird,” Jimin started, “about how different everything is now?” A distant look in his eyes as he kept staring up.
Yoongi thought about it for a moment before responding. “Different doesn’t mean worse.” He glanced at the younger before leaning his head back against the bed frame.
“I know.” Jimin paused. “Just… quieter.” His voice tapering off into a whisper at the end.
“You don’t like quiet?” Yoongi looked down at him.
“With you, I do.”
The words slipped out before Jimin could think about them. It felt natural to say them out loud, but he wasn't supposed to. Not like this at least, not in this—in this kind of intimate moment—it felt intimate to him. They were just getting into deeper feelings and Jimin just went a bit too deep without realising.
Yoongi didn’t respond right away. He tried to gauge Jimin's expression first, looking at him intently as to confirm if he was understanding it right.
“Sorry, that sounded—” Jimin sat up suddenly, then realised how close they were as Yoongi was sitting right next to him. His heart raced in his chest.
“It’s okay,” Yoongi said quickly when he saw the panic rising in his eyes. “I get it.” He murmured, reassuring him gently that he understood.
They looked at each other then—really looked. Not teasing, not joking. Just honest. Eyes staring into each other, trying to understand everything just from the gaze.
“Jimin,” Yoongi said slowly, “can I ask you something?” Eyes moving all over his face. Jimin was really pretty.
“Yeah.”
“Do you ever think about… us?”
Jimin’s breath caught at that question. He didn’t pretend not to understand. Because he did. He had thought about them a lot.
“All the time,” he admitted, voice a soft exhale as he felt a warm flutter in his chest.
“Good.” Yoongi let out a quiet breath, like he’d been holding it forever.
“Good?” Jimin echoed, smiling a little.
“Because I thought it was just me.”
“Never just you.” Jimin shook his head at that. Because it wasn't right, Jimin has always thought about Yoongi as more than just his hyung, his friend.
“You know," Yoongi reached out, hesitating only briefly before resting his hand over Jimin’s. “We don’t have to rush anything.”
“I know.”
“I just didn’t want to keep pretending I don’t feel it.”
“Me neither.” Jimin squeezed his hand gently.
The small space between them got smaller as they leaned in, eyes locked on each other. The kiss happened naturally—no countdown, no hesitation. Just a lean forward, a quiet question in the way Yoongi paused, glancing up, answered by Jimin closing the distance by pressing their lips together.
It was sweet, the soft press of their lips together as they closed their eyes. Familiar in a way as they pulled an inch back before pressing firmer. Like something that had been waiting patiently. Lips molding together like they were never meant to part. They didn't take it further. Didn't need to. They have all the time to explore more, this moment was just a confirmation for what they felt for each other.
When they pulled back, Jimin rested his forehead against Yoongi’s. Exhaling softly, they opened their eyes, staring back at the other with a grin.
“So,” Jimin murmured. “Tour boyfriend?”
Yoongi laughed quietly. “Don’t push it.”
“Okay,” Jimin said, smiling. “Tour… something.”
Yoongi squeezed his hand again. “Stay.” This time it wasn't just asking him to stay the night, it was much more than that.
Jimin didn't say anything out loud, just squeezed his hand back, pressing a soft quick peck on his lips before pulling him up on the bed.
They didn’t label it that night. They didn’t need to. It was enough to sit together in the aftermath of a show, the world a little quieter, knowing that whatever came next—tours, promotions, separate stages—they’d keep finding their way back t
o each other.
Some things didn’t change.
And some things finally did.
Because it was meant to be.
