Work Text:
It was a perfectly normal day in between Main Scenarios, and Kim Dokja, though he wouldn't admit it, enjoyed having all of his Company members in the living area of the Complex, relaxing for the morning before they head off to train.
And if he was especially happy that the ever elusive Yoo Joonghyuk was there as well, as he was more often these days, well, that was just him quietly admiring the stupidly handsome sunfish protagonist, whom he was glad he was comfortable enough to sit next to now; a solid, comforting wall of warmth.
"Ugh, I hate having to train," Lee Jihye suddenly grumbled from the other sofa she seemed determined to sink into.
Kim Dokja raised an eyebrow, glancing at her from where he was writing notes for the upcoming Main Scenarios.
"I thought you liked training," Lee Gilyoung said, not looking up from the row of crickets he had in front of him, "you always say how you want to get stronger and follow that sooty bastard around."
"Well yeah, I do, but doing the same thing everyday is boring; I wish we could do something different," she groaned louder now.
"Like what? Instead of sparring you want to be thrown into a Hidden Scenario?" Han Sooyoung asked sarcastically.
Lee Jihye opened her mouth, then seemed to think about it. "Actually-"
"No." Yoo Joonghyuk cut in, cutting a glare first at his protege who clamped her mouth shut, looking away, and then to Han Sooyoung who simply gave him a lazy smirk around her lollipop.
"But it would be nice, wouldn't it? To do something else, something new…" Yoo Sangah blessingly cut through the tension, sounding almost day-dreamy at the thought. Kim Dokja mildly wondered what she could mean by 'new', but then decided that no, actually he didn't.
"Ooh, how about a training game!" Shin Yoosung suddenly piped up excitedly.
"Training game?" Lee Hyunsung asked, perked up like an excited puppy to Kim Dokja's mild amusement.
Shin Yoosung nodded enthusiastically even as she turned to look at her Constellation. "Yeah! Like, we can play Capture the Flag!"
"I'm down, as long as it's not like that Main Scenario we did…" Jung Heewon grumbled, and everyone who remembers that particular Scenario nodded in agreement; that was definitely not fun.
"Hm, that sounds like a good idea," Kim Dokja mused, thinking it over.
In boot camp they occasionally did more extreme versions of games in the name of 'training', and Capture the Flag without the risk of death might be good, too.
"No." Yoo Joonghyuk, the obtuse sunfish, cut in once again.
"Why not? It might be fun," Kim Dokja countered, giving him a cheery grin, not affected by the flat look the other was giving him.
"It's a waste of time," he said firmly, turning back to his sword; even after all this time, when Kim Dokja was sure they were growing closer as friends and companions, he was still so stiff.
Still, he was sure he could convince him, in fact…
"Hm, then how about if we make it a bet?" Kim Dokja proposed, smile turning mischievous.
Yoo Joonghyuk raised an eyebrow at that but remained silent, a clear prompt as any.
"If my team wins, then you must do one thing I ask of you no matter what, and the same for me if you win; within reason and Probability, of course," Kim Dokja added quickly.
Yoo Joonghyuk's eyes took on an interested glint, suddenly completely focusing on Kim Dokja in a way that made him feel he may have possibly made a mistake.
"I can ask you to do anything at all and you can't refuse?" He asked, and Kim Dokja couldn't help but feel like prey seeing the eyes of a predator, heart skipping a beat in a way he tried to ignore.
"Within reason!" He protested, because he could only imagine the type of things Yoo Joonghyuk could ask him unrestrained and none of them were good.
"Fine. I'll choose my team." He stated firmly, standing up and easily sheathing his sword.
Kim Dokja sighed, also standing as the younger members cheered and the older chattered in interest and following his companion down to the courtyard.
Well, if nothing else, at least it's almost guaranteed this won't be a boring training session; and judging by the excited pings from the other Constellations, they were in agreement.
After some squabbling and whining and frustrated growling, courtesy of one Yoo Joonghyuk of course, they were finally split into teams.
Yoo Joonghyuk had taken Lee Jihye, Jung Heewon, Yoo Sangah, and Shin Yoosung while Kim Dokja had Han Sooyoung, Lee Hyunsung, Lee Gilyoung, and Jang Hayoung; despite her not being an 'official' member it was fine, and she seemed excited to join in.
Some others around the Complex, like Lee Sehowla and Kyrgios Rodgraim came to watch and cheer on the two teams, while the Breaking the Sky Sword Saint appointed herself as the referee, as she 'didn't trust them to not get themselves killed', which, Kim Dokja almost wanted to take offense to.
They lined up on opposite sides of the open area at the entrance to the Industrial Complex, Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk at the lead. While everyone got in places, Kim Dokja reached back, making sure the flag was secure, strapped to his back.
In the center where she stood was a small flag pole, where they had to bring the opposing flag to in order to score a point.
"Alright, remember, you can go anywhere as long as it's on the grounds of the Complex, and any and all skills and attributes are allowed, as long as they don't do permanent damage, and no killing, understand?" The Breaking the Sky Sword Saint said sternly, giving them all glares but lingering on Yoo Joonghyuk who only stiffly nodded.
"Then, in that case, let's begin."
With a happy chirp, Biyoo poofed between the two, and with a 'ping!' he realized there was now a new Hidden Scenario.
[Hidden Scenario - Capture the Flag: Training Edition
Clear Conditions: Capture the other team's flag and place it on the flagpole to score 1 Point;
The first team to reach 3 Points wins.
Reward: The losing team leader must do whatever the winning team leader asks. Within reason.
Failure: Having to do whatever the winning team leader asks. Within reason.
Time Limit: 30 Minutes per round, or as the referee deems.]
Kim Dokja rolled his eyes at the dramatics but couldn't help but smile as he ignored the multiple notifications of the excited chatter of the watching Constellations, all seeming to place bets and cheer on the respective teams and team members.
A window suddenly appeared above the two teams, with a countdown.
He tensed, eyeing the timer, and then flicking his gaze down to meet Yoo Joonghyuk's.
Those burning eyes met his, confidence all but oozing from him, hand gripping his sword handle, and he couldn't help but feel captured by that gaze.
But, he refused to lose that easily, even to his protagonist.
Just as the last few seconds counted down, he signaled at Han Sooyoung, who he heard huff behind him before, right as the countdown reached zero with a loud buzzer sound, had several avatars almost explode out, racing past him towards the other team.
Lee Jihye and Jung Heewon immediately crossed blades with them, but Kim Dokja didn't have time to check on them; instead he focused solely on running back, away from the charging Yoo Joonghyuk who easily sliced through the avatar Han Sooyoung used to intercept him.
Thankfully, Lee Hyunsung was his ever loyal shield and met Yoo Joonghyuk's blade head on, giving Kim Dokja time to turn and pass Lee Gilyoung and Jang Hayoung, one of whom was summoning a swarm of far too large locusts, and the other charging up one of her skills.
Turning back, he kept an eye on the other members, making sure to keep a wary eye on Yoo Sangah who Han Sooyoung had thankfully surrounded to keep distracted; it would be bad if she tried to tie him up with her strands.
Unfortunately but not surprisingly, Yoo Joonghyuk quickly managed to break away from Lee Hyunsung and before he could react Yoo Joonghyuk had him pinned to the wall, sword at his neck.
He felt his pulse jump at the position they were in, and while part of him wondered how this kept happening, another couldn't help but point out at the incredibly handsome protagonist all but bearing down on him. He tried his best to ignore that part.
[Exclusive skill, Fourth Wall is trembling.]
"Give me the flag," Yoo Joonghyuk ground out, staring fiercely down at Kim Dokja like this was an actual Scenario and not a little game.
Still, he couldn't help but smirk back at him, breathing hard and trying desperately to pretend the heat rising to his neck and face was just from exertion despite not having done much yet.
"I don't have it; sorry to disappoint," he said cheerfully. Yoo Joonghyuk stilled, eyes seeming to widen just a little in realization while Kim Dokja just felt more smug. "Never said anything about not being able to pass it to team members, huh?"
Before Yoo Joonghyuk could move, he gripped him and with the element of surprise, grabbed his flag and chucked it into the air where it was caught by a couple of the locusts.
While the others all shouted at that, Kim Dokja just gave a cheeky grin at the protagonist who had yet to move.
"Looks like we win this round, yah?" He said happily. Yoo Joonghyuk gave him a long stare before letting out a breath, something almost lighter and dare he say playful entering those dark eyes.
…For some reason it just made him more handsome, the bastard.
In his peripheral he noticed the window declaring that the Fourth Wall was shaking, but gave it no thoughts as all of his focus was on the man pinning him… which made it worse in that wording.
"Just because you won one round doesn't mean I'll let you win completely, Kim Dokja; you better be ready," he all but breathed, dark eyes pinning Kim Dokja in place who suddenly felt like it was very, very hard to breathe and extremely warm out all of a sudden.
As Yoo Joonghyuk finally backed off, Kim Dokja blinked, staring after that broad back and black coat, only snapping out of his swirling, dazed thoughts when those on his team cheered and a new window popped up, declaring Han Sooyoung having scored a point, who whooped loudly in celebration.
Decidingly pushing thoughts of stupidly handsome and ever confusing protagonists out of his mind, he made his way over, slapping on a smirk he hoped hid his racing heart as he congratulated Han Sooyoung on the win.
She eyed him but only smirked back, somehow even more smug than before.
After they chattered a bit more, with Lee Gilyoung gleefully smiling at Kim Dokja's praise over the control of the locusts that were integral to the whole thing, they all lined up again, ready for the next round, all knowing the strategy this time.
"Now then, remember the rules and have a good game."
A new window countdown began, and both sides readied up, seemingly more determined than before.
As the countdown proceeded, Kim Dokja purposefully relaxed his body stance, giving Yoo Joonghyuk a grin when he narrowed his eyes in suspicion; really, it's like he expects Kim Dokja to do something underhanded.
Well, Kim Dokja wasn't quite going to do that, but he was going to be a bit more sneaky this time; nothing gives an ego boost than to outsmart the perfect protagonist, even if only for a game.
Like before, as soon as the time ran out, Han Sooyoung's avatars came out, this time a lot more; they fluttered Kim Dokja's coat as they moved past him, Kim Dokja this time standing ready with his own sword out.
Gripping Unbroken Faith, he breathed deeply before moving to meet Yoo Joonghyuk head on; Lee Hyunsung intercepting Jung Heewon, with Jang Hayoung moving to meet Lee Jihye.
It was a much more attack-focused strategy this time, and hopefully enough to put the team at a disadvantage enough to not get too close to take his flag.
He was vaguely aware of the sound of skills being used, even the buzzing of insects and what might have been frogs? But he put all his focus into taking Yoo Joonghyuk's attack.
As their blades clashed, sparks flying, Kim Dokja found himself captured by Yoo Joonghyuk's intense gaze, all of that focus solely on him, and he couldn't help but meet it, mesmerized.
In battle, a truly dangerous thing he knew, but right then?
As they danced around the field, trading blows, he couldn't help how right it felt.
Until finally something wrapped around his leg, causing him to falter and barely brace against Yoo Joonghyuk's next attack.
Oh, Kim Dokja knew he wouldn't truly be able to face off against Yoo Joonghyuk like this for long; Yoo Joonghyuk was far superior to him in battle like this, and had hoped to just fend him off long enough for Jang Hayoung to come swooping in.
But then as Yoo Joonghyuk's lips quirked in the smallest smirk, baring down on him, and Kim Dokja grit his teeth, he couldn't help but look over when he heard a screech and a few yells.
At some point, a hoard of particularly large frogs had appeared, undoubtedly due to Shin Yoosung if Lee Gilyoung's angry yells were any indication, but more than that, it looked like some had swarmed around Han Sooyoung and her avatars-
Wait-
His eyes widened in realization, but he couldn't do anything as a window popped up, declaring a point to Yoo Joonghyuk's team, gained by Shin Yoosung.
Yoo Joonghyuk only seemed to gain an air of satisfaction, eyes gleaming, as he finally backed off, and whatever was around his ankle slackened.
Realizing what it was, he purposefully tried to ignore Yoo Joonghyuk who was still standing far too close as he sent Yoo Sangah a betrayed pout, who only grinned with a wave.
Truly traitors, the lot of them.
Still, he sighed, walking over to where the two teams talked excitedly, and gave Shin Yoosung his praise; after all, his Incarnation truly did a good job, using the frogs to snag the flag from a disgruntled Han Sooyoung, who was grumbling over feeling gross from the 'frog slime', to his amusement and silent thankfulness he wasn't attacked by them.
The entire time he desperately tried to ignore the burning gaze of the protagonist, only doing so thanks to the steadying though trembling Fourth Wall.
From there, a few rounds passed, each team scoring a point as they switched their tactics, trying to get the upperhand; Jang Hayoung managing to score one, to her delight, and Jung Heewon, who only smirked at a sheepish Lee Hyunsung.
Finally, the final round.
"Alright, last round; and this time, you only get ten minutes, so make it count." The Breaking the Sky Sword Saint called as they all stood at their places. "And this time, if the timer runs out, then it's a tie, unless someone from the opposite team is holding onto the other team's flag, then it's a point for them."
As everyone nodded, Biyoo let out another happy chirp, and the countdown window once again appeared.
Ten minutes, huh? Well, thankfully this time their tactic should more than work for his purposes.
Unlike the past rounds, this time once it hit zero he and his team did something a bit different.
Immediately Kim Dokja, who had yet to use any of his skills, immediately brought out his Demon King Status, lifting up into the air with a flap of dark wings even as he activated Bookmark.
[Bookmark, Way of the Wind Lvl 10(+1), has activated!]
Using the burst in speed, he flapped up, speeding towards and through the main building of the Complex; below he knew Lee Hyunsung, Jang Hayoung and Lee Gilyoung would be covering his flight, hopefully keeping most of them back, as Han Sooyoung used her avatars once again and followed after, guarding his escape.
He knew it should all hopefully be enough to guard against the others of the Company, but he knew it wouldn't do much to stop Yoo Joonghyuk; the protagonist was just too strong and far too determined, even just for a silly training game.
As he passed through the winding hallways in a hope to lose his trail, everything a blur thanks to the speed of Way of the Wind, he couldn't help but shudder a little at the wandering thought of just what Yoo Joonghyuk had in mind to make him do if he did win.
He… wouldn't make him do something like eat dirt, right? Shuddering in disgust at the thought, but also resigned that, yeah, he might. Or worse, make him eat the vile, slimy fruits called tomatoes.
Deep in his thoughts, he didn't realize he was in trouble until he felt something pin his coat to the wall, yanking him back harshly with an undignified yelp.
A glance showed it was a very distinctive sword sticking out of the wall where it was pinning his coat, and a chill ran down his spine as he turned to where it came from.
Yoo Joonghyuk, of course it was, all but marched towards him with purpose, eyes blazing and making it feel like he was facing a predator who just caught its prey.
"H-hey! You almost stabbed my wings, you know? Then where would we be-" he stammered and blustered, trying to discreetly pull out the sword with his wings covering and, failing that, slip the coat off.
A hand slammed against the wall next to his head, causing it to crack under the far too strong strength; a second one hit the other side, boxing him in.
Letting out an embarrassing squeak, he froze, staring wide eyed at Yoo Joonghyuk whose gaze bored down on him.
"You're trying to force the timer to run out." It wasn't a question, and Kim Dokja wasn't very surprised that he had figured it out so quickly.
"No, of course not, it's just we were in that courtyard for so long, and I-" he stammered, trying to keep his eyes away from that piercing gaze.
"Kim Dokja."
He startled, staring back in surprise. Those words weren't said in the aggressive, exasperated way they usually were; instead they were softer, almost… gentle.
And so was the gaze on him.
A hand lifted from the wall, and gently settled against his cheek, fingers brushing against him in a way that made his face heat up and his breath stutter and feel like he had to leave, now.
Then, before he could activate Bookmark and more importantly Minimize and get away from all of this as fast as he could, that same hand moved down to his chin, tilting it up, and-
-a pair of warm, full lips met his own.
Kim Dokja completely and utterly froze.
[Exclusive Skill, Fourth Wall, has temporarily stopped working.]
For a second, every aspect of him stopped working, from his lungs to his ever swirling brain, until he felt more than heard a dissatisfied huff and those lips tilted, lining up better, deeper.
Kim Dokja couldn't help but let out a small muffled moan, shuddering as Yoo Joonghyuk's lips gently caressed his own, and he tentatively, not thinking, unable to think, tried kissing back, clumsy in his attempts but almost desperate to meet him.
He shivered even more so when one of those broad, strong hands gently swept through his wings, making them shiver at the feeling before he was distracted again by the kiss.
A rumbling hum went through the chest pressed against him through to his own, and his heart skipped at the feeling, gripping tight to the broad shoulders, before, after far too long and far too quickly, those lips pulled away, letting Kim Dokja suck in a much needed gasp of air.
Fluttering his eyes he hadn't realized were closed, he blinked up, bewildered and dazed and like he was on fire at the warm gaze meeting his own.
"Kim Dokja."
The words were softly spoken, in a way that made his heart beat quicker and his throat tighten.
"Y-yeah?" He asked back, unable to think of anything else to say.
Another gentle brush of a kiss, Kim Dokja unable to hold back a small whine as Yoo Joonghyuk trailed his lips up along his cheek to rest against his ear.
"I win." The words were whispered, hot air grazing them, and-
"Huh?" Kim Dokja blinked, trying to comprehend that.
Then there was a 'ping!', and a window suddenly popped up in front of him.
[Timer has run out.
Yoo Joonghyuk's team had won.
1 Point won by Yoo Joonghyuk by default, possessing Kim Dokja's team flag.]
After staring at those words, trying to process them after everything, he looked back at Yoo Joonghyuk who had leaned back enough to see him properly.
Yoo Joonghyuk had a smug grin, and held up a hand.
In it was Kim Dokja's flag.
"I won. So, I would like my reward." He said, not looking away as he leaned in closer.
Swallowing hard, Kim Dokja scrambled to get his head in working order, but he really, very much could not; it seemed the Fourth Wall still continued to forsake him.
"What do you- I mean, what-" he stammered, feeling his face flush further as Yoo Joonghyuk leaned in closer.
Suddenly a message came through Midday Tryst.
Feeling himself gape at the words, he looked between it and Yoo Joonghyuk, who had at some point moved his hands to wrap around his waist, one even gently rubbing the sensitive spot between his twitching wings.
"Wha- that's-" he said between breaths, before letting out a yelp as he was hauled up into strong arms as Yoo Joonghyuk purposefully strode towards the bedrooms.
"Biyoo, close the channel."
"What, no, wait-!"
The rest of his protests were drowned under ever stronger and possessive kisses.
