We're Bad at Secrets

Summary:

Bad and Skeppy have been seeing each other for a few months, and it's getting harder to hide. Skeppy wishes for nothing more than to tell their boys so they no longer need to keep their love a secret, but Bad has some concerns about his son finding out.

A sort of prequel oneshot to "Dapper's Questions".

Notes:

This is a Single Dad Bad™ AU (one of my fave AUs ever) where Bad and Skeppy have been seeing each other secret. For a little bit more of this AU, you can read my other oneshot fic of this universe called "Dapper's Questions."

Enjoy !!

Work Text:

"You don't want him to know about us?"

"No! I mean— no. Not yet. It's just, Dapper's never really seen me with someone before. I don't want him to.. I dunno, get weirded out?"

"Didn't you say you had a partner in college?"

"Well, yeah, but Dappy wasn't even a year old at the time. And it wasn't a very long relationship. Like I said, they couldn't really.. handle me being a father."

Skeppy thought on this for a minute. He guessed he understood where Bad was coming from. He wasn't sure how Junior would react to him dating Bad either. Not that he thought Junes wouldn't like Bad, no, he thinks the kid would love him almost as much as Skeppy. It's just a little weird when someone completely new comes from no where when it was just you and your dad since forever. Understandable.

"Okay. We don't have to tell him now, I guess. I don't wanna hide it forever, though."

"Of course not. We'll tell him eventually, heck he might even figure it out on his own at some point. He's a smart kid, y'know."

Skeppy snorted, "yeah, you've only mentioned that, like, a billion times."

"I'm a proud Papa Bear, okay?!"

"Gross! Don't call yourself that!"

Skeppy tried to hide the smile on his face as he playfully pushed Bad away.

"What, I am!!" Bad responded, moving back toward Skeppy with a broadened smile. He wasn't going to let a silly push take him away from his Skeppy.

"Cmon, I bet you are too!" The taller insisted, wrapping his arms around his boyfriend's waist.

"I'm proud, yeah, but I'm not calling myself a Papa Bear!" Skeppy halfheartedly tried to squirm out of Bad's hug, ultimately failing as the man started planting kisses on his shoulder, quickly making headway toward his face. Skeppy giggled before retaliating by pressing a kiss to the other's lips, bringing his hands up to hold Bad's face so he couldn't break away. Not that he would've wanted to, anyway.

After a few minutes of just standing there in each other's embrace, they pulled apart for air, staring into each other's eyes with big dopey smiles until Bad caught something in the corner of his eye. Or rather, someone, he realized.

"Dapper!"

Bad whirled around, detaching himself from his lover, who in kind took a couple steps back.

"What're— what're you doing here?" He asked, pushing his hair back away from his face in attempt to neaten his appearance. His voice was much louder than it needed to be and his face was beat red, but Bad still tried to save face with a big smile.

"I wanted some water." The boy said, a glass in his hand. Maybe mingling in the kitchen wasn't the brightest idea. "What're you doing here?"

Dapper looked at both of them, arching a brow at the apparent couple. He already knew of course, it wasn't like they were all that subtle, but he wanted to hear whatever inane excuse his father would give.

"We were, ummm, putting away the food! Skeppy," he made a grand gesture toward the mentioned man, "dropped some. On his face. I was, uh, helping him clean up!"

Dapper looked at Skeppy, who looked just as disbelieving of Bad's excuse as he did. Bad only looked at Dapper, ignoring Skeppy, in anticipation for the boy's response.

To the oldest's surprise, there really wasn't one. "Okay," Dapper shrugged and turned to go to his room. He wasn't going to press them any more than that. At this moment, at least. He decided he'd talk to his dad about it later.

That left Bad and Skeppy alone in the kitchen again, Bad's eyes were glued to the hallway Dapper had just ducked into. After a few seconds go by and Bad is sure he hears Dapper's door creeks shut, he lets out a sigh.

"We're bad at secrets, aren't we?"

He felt strong arms snake around his waist and a head rest on his shoulder, the tickle of Skeppy's breath on the shell his ear sent a small shiver down his spine as the shorter started to speak.

"Who's we? I didn't say a thing. You were a mess out there."

Bad scoffed and slapped at Skeppy's arms, though it did little to deter his cuddly boyfriend.

"Gee, thanks. Y'know some help would've been nice."

A knowing hum was Skeppy's only answer as he occupied himself with nuzzling his nose between Bad's shoulder and neck. The feeling made the brunet giggle and lean into the shorter man's touch. It wasn't long before he was pushing the other man away though, a smile still on his face as he told Skeppy,

"We still need to put away dinner."

With a prominent pout, Skeppy complied and helped his tease of a boyfriend find the right tupperware for the job.
