Chapter Text
Darry didn’t want to yell at Ponyboy today. In fact, he never wants to yell at Ponyboy, but goddamnit that boy never uses his head and now the entire house might be filled with noxious gas.
“Ponyboy why the fuck didn’t you turn the gas stove all the way off!?”
From the kitchen table, Darry watches a slowly-blinking Ponyboy lift his head and give him a glare.
“Whaddya mean? I did turn it off!”
“Well clearly you didn’t ‘cause I just checked and it was on, and the house smells like gasoline! Glory Ponyboy, how long ago was it since you used the stove?”
“I dunno… three hours?”
“Christ almighty Pony, that’s three hours worth of gas pouring into our house! C’mon, get outside, you need fresh air ‘fore you get poisoned or something. I’ll open up a couple windows.”
Darry hears a groan come from Ponyboy, but the sound of a chair scraping on the floor reaches his ears, and soon enough Darry is the only one in the house. Thank God he didn’t complain, if Pony had complained Darry would’ve smacked that kid so hard his head did a 180. What was that kid thinking! Could he not smell the gas, or feel himself getting light-headed? Lordy, this is why Ponyboy can never be left alone.
… And Darry will have to pick up a few more shifts in order to pay for the gas that was undoubtedly added to their bills. Darry’s gonna have a long talk after this shit, thats for sure.
